The Shard is awesome, I found my first one on the street & it introduced me to keychain pry tools. did the paracord wrap I learned here on You tube. great EDC carry on a key chain or to add to a Maxpediton type organizer. Very handy.

Those are excellent tips! I might grind down the Phillips tip as well as the very hooky edge of the bottle opener. I appreciate you taking the time to share this with me, thank you!

I looked up for options with a non-bladed tool. This one takes the cake!

Great vid! I keep a shard on my keychain and I use it at least once a month. I also keep a SAK [with flashlight function] and an orange paracord lanyard on my keychain as well.

Four years? Awesome! I've only known about it for about the last two... I'm guilty of not trying one much sooner. It's great to hear from someone that's had a chance to really put it through its (long-term) paces! Thanks!

Love mine. I used a black sticky (don't remember the name) wrap on mine in the middle. After a half hour of drying it's good to go, when I use it I just touch a finger to my lip and it makes it sticky again and give good purchase, love the stuff. I ground off the (IMO) useless Phillips, it now looks stock without it. Took a stone to the pry to give some bite and different angle. It's really aged well, looks like it's been used for 40 yrs. I been given comments on it's look, couldn't be happier.

Pretty good vid! I bought 4 of these last month off Amazon @ $3.85 each. Carry two on myself, one on my work key set and one on my personal key set. Was a great fathers day gift too, we love this little thing. Comes in handy.

Excellent! And I agree, for the price, value, and utility, one would be hard-pressed to find a better inexpensive gift for just about anyone. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your experience!

I just got mine a few days ago so I haven't used it much. Did tighten a couple of Phillips screws down and also used it to pry a locking mechanism on a machine at work. It's a handy tool to have on my keychain. I really like it. I've got mine attached via carabiner. Do like the paracord on yours tho. Good video man.

Thanks very much, Chief! I've got another video showing how to wrap yours with paracord, if you're interested. Have a great week and thanks for watching!

Is the gap between the two flathead drivers sharp? Could it be used for opening boxes and letters?
@ItsAWonderfulKnife11 жыл бұрын
It's not sharpened from the factory, no. I believe the Shard is sharpened, however, so you might be able to sharpen it yourself, if you can fit some sort of sharpening tool in there. The phillips driver actually works pretty well for ripping box tape along the seams, and you could probably use it to open an envelope in a pinch.

I believe those little indentions on the edges are supposed to be for wire stripping (I've never used them but I remember that being another touted use for the tool). I have a couple of these and really like them.
@ItsAWonderfulKnife11 жыл бұрын
They seem like they'd be too shallow for wire stripping, but if it works, that's pretty cool!

One more tool is between screwdrivers - a wire stripper (to remove insulation from electric wires) or cord cutter if it is sharpened. I have one that is sharpened.
@brendenguzman93085 жыл бұрын
Vladimir German how did you sharpen it
@ItsAWonderfulKnife11 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that flip out knife deal just does not work for me. Only downside to a Swiss army knife is that it lacks a dedicated prybar.

how thick is the steel on this? :)

The batteries in my digital calipers are dead, but if I had to guess, I'd say about 2.5mm or so.

that´s why i use "manual" calipers ;) thanks :) you liked my photo on instagram, so you know probably, but i got a 4mm plate so i guess that will hold up too haha :D thx for the help

i count 5 tools or did i get something wrong?

no there are! only five

+Mike Taylor According to Gerber, there are actually seven: Pry Bar, Small Flathead Driver, Wire Stripper/ Puller, Large Flathead Driver, Bottle Opener, Lanyard Hole, Cross Driver
@MrMikeyt658 жыл бұрын
yeah those little notches on there that are covered with paradoxes supposed to be for stripping wire. tried them ,didn't work and I don't count a lanyard hole as a ltool

Im not sure if you are familiar with California law, but I am a minor and I tried purchasing one of these and I was not allowed. I am just curious why? Great vid by the way :)
@ItsAWonderfulKnife8 жыл бұрын
+Samuel Licon I am reasonably knowledgeable of California knife law. There isn't any reason why a minor shouldn't be allowed to buy the Shard, at least not legally-speaking, since it doesn't bear any sharpened edge(s). If the same store allows you to buy a screwdriver, or pry bar, or bottle opener, but won't allow you to buy the Gerber Shard, that's just silly. It's most likely that the sales clerk doesn't know precisely what this multitool does and simply associates it with most other Gerber products, most of which are edged tools like axes and knives. That's up to the individual store and their own policies on selling tools or knives to minors. You should explain the tool and its uses to your parents or legal guardian and have them return to the store with you to buy it. Good luck!

+ItsAWonderfulKnife Thanks for the info! I thought it strange that I wasn't able to buy it.

@DanielSultana11 жыл бұрын
I believe the bottle opener tool also doubles up as a hex wrench or whatever they call it, eitherway it is called, you mentioned it's got 6+1 functions, whilst naming 5+1. In short please put an annotation mentioned the forgotten function.
