@ Stacey Hannon - yes- what the almightyduck...was saying. It’s a combo of the guitar and the bass doing volume swells. What makes it cool is that it is off time as they aren’t swelling at the same time which creates a pan like sound effect. The little things that tool does is what makes them special. When I first heard the track it sounded like a violin or cello. 🤓

@Trenton Billmire - just make sure you notice the guitar is doing volume swells too. The bass is off time from the guitar creating a syncopation. Hope that makes sense. Watch one of the guitar covers of the song and you will see what I mean 😉

Great work! I am a drummer and have now worked out the drum parts. It´s not until you see someone playing the parts or play the parts yourself that you see just how complex and other worldly TOOL really are. I can´t wait for the new album and to dissect it and this song is just epic and the album is going to be also.

I think the ebony fretboard (vs Rosewood), Flamed Maple (vs Birdseye) and High Gloss finish (vs Matte or satin) makes a difference vs his build. Hope you are giving your bass lots of love. @@cory6002 I've seen a few artists play them before. Bassist from Killing Joke, Paul McCartney, I think Geddy Lee had one too. They're made custom with exotic woods. So called "Electric wood". It's been known to be easily adjusted to match the sound of any bass... the electronics are gnarly too, since every string has its own pickup. I think... I dunno, I just know it's $5k and my dumbass wants one.

This seems basically perfect to me but I am hearing an arpeggio (forgive if the terminology is wrong) in my right channel that I assume is bass between the notes on the low D string around the 8:13-8:15

@Juan Pablo Castro Gallego - Thank you. The intro volume swells and main riff are using chorus and delay. The one small part in the middle before volume swells uses the tremolo pedal. That’s it for effects. The rest of the song has no effects turned on

@Miloš Budinčević - i like it a lot. I like that they are continuing down the path of a more progressive sound. I heard there will be a lot more keyboards on this album. I also heard Maynard won’t scream anymore so it will be a departure from the old vocal style but whatever- I’m sure his vocal chords are tired from decades of singing. 😊
