I am right there with you, Ralph, I grew up in the 60s and 70's, so due to that early immersion into the music of "our" day, I became a classic rock radio jock, so, when doing some research on "current" bands, this band popped up, immediately loved them...that was years ago now, and I enjoy seeing others reactions to this band...Rock ON!!

This is Tool at their best in my opinion. Lyrically it is so unbelievably deep and profound that if you don’t already know the ideology of Carl Jung that Tool is referencing here, you should definitely go read up on it. It really helps you appreciate this song so much more. The go react to the OKeefe music school kids covering this song and absolutely killing it!

I’m 53, lived all my life in Louisiana. I didn’t hear a Tool song until about 2006, but from the first song I was hooked. I’m not even really into really heavy or hard rock/metal music but this is so different from any heavy rock ever made. The music is so complex that it’s hooks get into you deep not to mention the insanely deep and profound lyrics that just defy description. I’ve been learning guitar for about 18 months and this guitar is so over my head it’s nuts. My 27 year old daughter is self taught guitar for about ten years now and while she can play some Tool, she said it’s so hard because of the way his guitar is set up..tuned or dropped down? From normal tuning or something like that and she said the guitarist is so good at ear training that he can pull off all kinds of tuning and sounds and make it sound like magic that is crazy hard for other guitar players. Of course the drums need no words. You obviously know lol! Im a word nerd who has and does read anything I can, I have a minor in psychology and I love anything beautifully deep..especially songs and Tool combines words, philosophy, ideology, pain, knowledge, paradoxes and what if’s/what can be into a whole package that is everything a band should aspire to be!

Thank you for finally discovering TOOL . You guys have to react to Tool’s frontman Maynard James Keenan’s side project. A Perfect Circle . Two Recommendations: their songs “PET”& “Outsider”. Freakin brilliant! & deep! A Perfect Circle listening experience takes me places musically like I’ve never known. Danny Carey is a frickin S.O. B. on the drums. I love it. I love APC. ❤❤ Have a great Tuesday. Stay sane.

Thanks for taking my suggestion from the March Madness poll guys. It’s the musicianship that makes Tool. Everyone in the band is top notch and can do their own thing in any song. That’s why I got into Tool being a Prog rock guy. Went from Rush to now Tool carrying the torch, in my opinion at least

AEnima , when it was released was the best thing I had ever heard, still pretty much is, its got better over the years unlike some albums that age badly, At the time I was a big grunge head, and they were the first band I loved that really embraced some very technical Ideas, in such a musical way. Also their combination of light and dark, positive and negative, the dynamics, the engineering/production/ sounds they have for each instrument/member are incredible. Their ability to go from the most delicate to full on controlled chaos, on an epic build up, is unmatched (with an exception made for Opeth who to me are the Black/Death Metal Tool) Their range in texture, soundscape, Rhythm and variations on themes, is just brilliant and their attention to detail is also stunning. AEnima itself as an album, imo is the best sounding album ever produced both in terms of song writing and audio production. To me its a Gold standard. As someone who makes Prog Metal (mainly Instrumental stuff) everything they do is to be admired. AEnima is a unique album, with a never again attainable perfect balance of warmth, clarity depth and also Rawness (its not the right word, but its closer to this than every album that followed), Lateralus is a cerebral/spiritual masterpiece, 10'000 Days is almost a blend of AEnima's balance, with a sound closer to Lateralus, and some of the attitude of Undertow Fear Innoculum is a great showcase for their musicianship , but feels a little for the fans rather than for them, its still great, but its not as real as AEnima, as creative as Lateralus, or as Diverse as 10'000 Days. It feels to me kind of like Undertow on steriods, like if they wanted a similar vibe musically with a much better sound, and much longer songs with loads of technical bits AEnima trumps them all for me, its a perefect storm of a record. I liked Undertow before that, but Aenima was the one that made me really take notice, and it also lead me to other things later down the line like Botch, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Opeth etc etc etc

So we'll put. As musicians we notice all the levels/instruments, how they blend and we feel it too, like everyone else. It's like listening in 5d for us. Tool ticks all the boxes and they do so magnificently. They also inspire on top of that, by aspiring to dare to be their best.

There are some of the best musicians ever but they're not geneticists and the idea could at best be pseudoscience. If we added two chromosomes that would put us the same with chimps and the number of chromosomes has absolutely no bearing at all on intelligence or evolved status. Actually we only appear to have 23 chromosomes instead of 24 because two of them fused but even more interesting than that is the fact that a y chromosome is just deteriorated X chromosome it looks to be on its way out in the long term. The reduction in chromosome number was caused by the head-to-head fusion of two ancestral chromosomes to form human chromosome 2 (HSA2) and may have contributed to the reproductive barrier with Great Apes
