Hello Rosanne. I am an ex-pat of the Twin Cities now living in Maryland and happily gardening in a zone 7 garden. This was a very useful video, and have added to my Christmas wish list a few of your tool suggestions. I have been to Tangletown Gardens, and when I visit my daughter, who is living in St. Paul, I make it a point to go back. I have even planned trips to coincide with their garden walk in July. I wonder if you have noticed changes to your climate in MN that affect your gardening? I am finding it hard to know when it is safe to prune during the dormant season. Over the past couple of years, and also predicted this year, our winters have been unseasonable mild. I'm not sure anymore when to cut back my roses or prune shrubs because we get long periods of mild temperatures that cause the plants to start budding. In fact, yesterday as my husband and I took our daily walk, I noticed in many gardens that spring bulbs were already starting to poke up! I always worry about my cherry trees. One year we lost all the blooms because they come out too early during a long mild spell, and then froze when the temperature dropped again. Just makes gardening more challenging!

Hi Karin. I'm glad you found the video useful! It's fun to add a gardening tool or two 🌝. Tangletown does have a nice selection. Our garden was on one of the Tangletown tours a few years ago (2014?). Great question about changes to the climate. For me, I think our climate is extreme enough, that I haven't had many significant issues. Having snow snowstorms in late April is a problem though, especially if we have prolonged periods of very cold weather with it. My Spring Garden Tour video has a short clip of my tulips under 6 inches of snow! Fortunately, they survived. All the best.

I'm fascinated by all your tools and organization! I learned of some new tools today and this is just in time to add them to my Christmas wish list! Thank you for explaining each of the uses. I like your idea of tying a ribbon to help you find it in the garden. I usually do a yard survey to make sure I haven't left any in the dirt, but inevitably you miss one. The bright ribbon is a nice idea.

Hello Roseanne! Thank for your videos. Your garden is my #1 inspiration. Your enchanted theme has everything I want for my garden. I am so happy I found your channel. I am starting my garden in Illinois, zone 5b. I am investing on my outdoor pots. But I don’t know which materials are the best for winter. I would greatly appreciate if you guide me on what containers’ materials would withstand our -40 temperature. Thank you very much!
@Exquisite-Gardens
@Exquisite-Gardens 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lucy! I’m so glad you are enjoying my channel! How exciting to be beginning your own garden 🪴. Love that you love the enchanted look. As to containers, I use almost exclusively clay pots - which would very likely crack if left out for the winter. I empty my pots every fall and scrub them lightly with water. Then I store them in our shed. As to other pots, I have one plastic pot that looks like clay that we do keep out over winter with winter greens. The risk of cracking happens when the moisture in the soil, or rain or snow eventually freezes and expands. Freezing moisture expanding is enough to crack many materials. I guess emptying a pot (ceramic or cement) and then covering it for the winter might work. I certainly see people with pots left outdoors (of course I don’t know how long the pots last). Pots are heavy and expensive, so your question is right on. Sorry I don’t have a more fulfilling answer 😕. Your question makes me think that “preparing for winter” would be a good video this fall.

I’d like to add two of my favorites: the Root Slayer shovel and a Japanese pull saw! The RS is shaped like a trench shovel but has serrated side edges and cuts through tough roots and hard clay soil with little effort, and the tip sharpens easily - as I’ve found after a hard summer. 🙂 And the pull saw makes a wonderfully smooth cut, is feather-light, and will cut any diameter as long as you’re willing to stand there. I have two sizes and use them inside and out, especially since the blades are flexible and are great for tight spaces and flush cutting. GREAT video!! I’ve been waffling on a Hori Hori, but you’ve convinced me... I’m off to shop! 😆

Hi, Our system is almost twenty years old, and it was sold as a garage organization system. The system was Schulte, but it looks like they were acquired by Organized Living. Below is a link on Amazon. Maybe they're available elsewhere. The key to this system is that you can move the hooks around, which is very convenient as one expands their tool selection 😉. www.amazon.com/Organized-Living-Activity-Organizer-48-inch/dp/B002XUKW2Q/ref=pd_rhf_se_p_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2PGE0VHHT78MJ6ZR94KB

Hi! Thank you very much. I'm so glad you enjoy the garden tours! The edging is "Chilton" Limestone. It is quarried in Wisconsin. I'm not sure about where you live, but it is available in the form of "Edgers" at our local stone and masonry supplier. Even if Chilton is not available, you might be able to find a similar stone in that same shape. I love going to the outdoor yard and browsing at the beautiful natural stone. All the best!

Thanks! I so agree about wood handles. Some tools are almost art. The tool hanging racks are from a company called Schulte (maybe purchased recently by Organized Living?). Greetings neighbor! I'm so glad you found my channel! I do not know the brand and both (yes I have two) of my trench shovels are quite old. I've seen ones like ours at hardware stores and I believe, Bachman's. Unlike most of our wood-handled garden tools, the trench shovels are not stainless, but I wish I could find some stainless ones. Glad you're enjoying the videos. It's super cold today, but I just got a Johnny's seed catalog in the mail. Yay! It means spring is on its way. Yours in gardening 🌹🌿🌺

I’m also getting my winter sowing plans figured out so I can start them in a couple weeks. I love starting seeds indoors too. So fun to watch them grow. I am interested in the curved grass edger (longer handle) tool that you use. I wish you had provided links to your tools. You have an amazing assortment of everything a gardener should have. Also, I would like to know the height of the metal supports you use for your hydrangea . My blossoms are so huge, they flopped with the first big rain and again anytime water hits them. Thank you, I really enjoyed this video. Do you find you need support for the zinnias?
@Exquisite-Gardens
@Exquisite-Gardens 4 ай бұрын
Hi, My apologies for the tardy response. I'm so glad you enjoyed my "Tools" video! The curved grass edger is a Sneeboer tool, from the Netherlands. Here's a link www.gardentoolcompany.com/products/sneeboer-garden-edging-knife-with-steps?variant=763657691&currency=USD&srsltid=AfmBOoogECWwB322MTPemZDz37cXpj8yWg8G0qWf4P_CDEMc6ScatsyAvqI&com_cvv=8fb3d522dc163aeadb66e08cd7450cbbdddc64c6cf2e8891f6d48747c6d56d2c The Sneeboer tools are not cheap, but of the finest quality. They make great gifts for the gardener! The height of the metal supports for the hydrangea are 42". They probably sink into the ground about 6 inches. I had taller ones that were too tall, so we cut them down. I do need support for the Bennary's Giant zinnias, even though I trim them down earlier in the summer to make them bushier. I just stake the entire bed with twine and garden stakes in a grid pattern. The zinnias that I have growing alone or among other flowers are generally of a shorter variety and do not need staking. Thanks for watching and commenting!

just found you ! Love your tool video , boy are you organized ! I do have a question you may be able to help me with. I have some deep rooted lilies from the previous owner of this garden that have multiplied way too much and I'm trying to remove them so they never come back...I cannot just pull them uplthe leaves because they break and the bulbs are still around for the next year. What tool would work in this case without digging up my plants around them ? thanks
@Exquisite-Gardens
@Exquisite-Gardens 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Regarding your question, the answer really depends on how deep the lily bulbs are, and how close other plants are. If they are deep, and you have a 5 inch area to work with, I'd use a trench spade (one of my top three tools). I'd also do it early in the spring, before surrounding plant foliage gets too large. If the bulbs are not too deep, I'd use a trowel. Hope that helps (at least a bit 😉).

@Exquisite-Gardens

I'm glad to say we don't really have that problem anymore. When Dolly was a puppy, we did not let her in the garden unsupervised because she showed too much interest in some poisonous plants, like the Calla Lilies. So, because she was closely watched when she was little, she never really got into digging holes, or had the opportunity. With other dogs we've had in the past, or even our wild rabbits, I fence in the valuable plants or vegetables (with 2 ft chicken wire) to keep them safe from intruders. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
