Danny Carey is perfection personified! I love how he became the focal point (frontman, if you will) of Tool. They’re all beasts in their own right, but I’ll be god damned if they’re not looking to that dude for guidance. That’s always been my favorite thing about these guys: they’re all doing separate things that compliment what their brothers are doing and it blends in the ear beautifully. When Adam and Justin were facing Danny, awaiting their respective cues, I got goosebumps. They know what they’re doing and they know what comes next, but, again, they’re looking to Danny to make sure shit doesn’t go sideways (I’ve Tool a lot - 13-14 times - and I’ve seen them shit the bed, but I’d bet money that Danny Carey never missed a beat... literally and figuratively, and he pulled it back together.) It may not make sense to us right outta the gate, but if you give it enough listens to get it, it’s otherworldly. Shout out to Meshuggah! 😉

Hes 58 years old. Like wine he gets better with age. I dare any drummer to write more mathematically sound and complex rhythms. This is like a nail in the coffin for the goat drummer argument. There is no question. DC is the greatest to ever create a rhythm.

Honestly, as someone who heard this song live first before the album released, I'm underwhelmed by the studio version. It doesn't feel as alive. Drums and Bass are sometimes lost in the mix, especially at that drop in the bridge section.

Lyrics: Long in tooth and soul, longing for another win Merge into the fray, weapon out and belly in A Warrior struggling to remain consequential Bellow aloud, bold and proud Where I've been, from here I am Beating chest and drum Beating tired bones again Age-old battle, mine Weapon out and belly in Tales told of battles won Of things we've done, Calligula would grin Meeting tired bones tripping through, "remember when?" Once invincible, now the armor's wearing thin Heavy sheild down A Warrior struggling to remain relevant Warrior struggling to remain consequential Cry aloud, bold and proud Where I've been, here I am Where I end A Warrior struggling to remain relevant Warrior struggling to remain consequential Tear in my eyes, Chasing Ponce de Leon's phantom soul Filled with hope, I can taste mythical fountains False hope, perhaps But the truth never stood in my way, before now Feel the sting Feeling time bearing down (Chuggathon) Tear in my eyes, Chasing Ponce de Leon's phantom soul Filled with hope, I can taste mythical fountains False hope, perhaps But the truth never stood in my way, before now Feel the sting Feeling time bearing down False hope, perhaps But the truth never stood in my way, before now Feel the sting Feeling time bearing down Bearing down...
