@@AG-ur1lj Honestly i can't agree and disagree more. when i listen to any instrument it feels like they are the shining star of the band. Maynard's vocal range and deep lyrics; Jone's guitar tone, strange techniques, and killer riffs; Chancellor's experimentation, bass lines, and the way he compliments both the drums and guitar, often forming a bridge between the two; and then of course Danny, killer fills, unique beats for every movement in every song, etc. The fact that there are extraordinarily long tutorial/reaction videos on youtube for every member says everything.

A G I know I’m late, but I feel compelled to add to the conversation. It’s probably satan. Being a drummer, naturally I’m drawn to DCs playing, as I am any other bands drummer. Danny himself though, said he takes it as his responsibility to lead into changes, to serve as an introduction for the next part, and once the change is made, to support it with a complimentary foundation. Much more than a fill and a groove, he plays drums as an instrument, not as a time keeper. But, if I manage to pull my attention away, I can isolate or combine any of the other instruments and experience the interplay between them. Tool somehow makes it more enjoyable, more profound, more.... I donno... spiritual. It’s like they each have 1of 4 keys to paradise, and by independent action, they work together to open the door. All other bands just get to peak in the windows. Except Rush. It’s like a timeshare, lol. But anyway, my main point is about your last paragraph. With one exception, it’s probably the best, most basic description of the true nature of music, and coincidentally the true nature of nature. Separate, individual instruments with their own voices and means of expression, working independently and symbiotically to create something much more than themselves and impossible to create alone. The one exception I have is, it’s not so much a sign of great musicians, but of great music. It doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful, and it doesn’t have to be beautiful to be profound. Ahh, music..... what a wonderful thing, eh?

thats true of all tool parts, guitar, vocals, bass. they have technically difficult parts contrasted by much simpler lyrical parts. big part of why they sound so mature.
