I would LOVE to learn how to recognise the different sounds of drums and cymbals in songs. For so long I've been "drum blind". All the crashes and bonks and boofs sounded the same. It wasn't until I watched your drum streams and videos that I discovered how much drums actually make the songs! It's given me a new appreciation for music. And jazz! Is amazing! More vids on anything jazz, please!

I recorded a 30" Zildjian ride about 20 years ago. Guy who owned it is a bit of a collector.....has lots of old stuff. Anyway, the details are a bit shady at this point, but he was under the impression that the ride he had was the heaviest ride cymbal Zildjian had ever made. And boy was it heavy. If memory serves, it was more or less a "medium A" in style, and you know, it sounded pretty darned good. I recall it recording fairly well, and I did noodle around on it a bit during soundcheck and recall it feeling pretty decent. It was, of course, ridiculous.

Sir, I recently found your video by suggestion ... I really like your enthusiasm. I'm 60 years old but I am a beginner. Been at it for 5 years now but you don't learn stuff as fast when you're older ... cymbals are (or were) sort of an afterthought for me (mine are all Zildjian beginner models - all of them sound flat and kinda soul-less to me) but hey .... I'm lucky I can move across the kit on 8th notes! I have a lot to learn, but now I'm cymbal shopping. Stuff sure costs more nowadays! :) I do love the "crisp" sort of dry sound .... except when the ride is hit on the last not of a song .... then I love the ring that lasts as long as the guitar chord. :) Thanks again, sir!!!

When iwas living in the USA in Los Angeles, I was in a reallg nice drum store, Pro Drum on Vine St in Hollywood, saw a vintage Avedis Zilldjian 30-inch, really gong like. My largest is something i found in an Armenian-run pawnshop, a Paiste 2002 Concert 24-inch, a really smooth wide range of frequencies. I got it for 60 bucks, a really nice bargain. Nicest deep dark sound i heard is a Dream Dark Matter Ride, which comes in 20" and 22". I got a great price on a 20" from the main dealer, a warranty return on a 20" for just £30 with a half inch edge crack-- which i fixed with a small scallop repair-- quite thin, a very flat profile with little bow curvature and small bell, unlathed and left in dark patina. These cymbals are designed by a Canadian company and made in China. Interesting smooth deep sound-- and the 22" is even better (but I couldn't afford it!) Definitely a special-effects sound for occasional use. I like the Bosphorus 28" best out of that selection.

I'm only a hobbiest musician who loves music, first and for most I'm an artist/illustrator. The way you talk about drums, in such technical detail, while still being philosophical and passionate about it! It's the exact energy I have about my art! I've never had a lot of interest in drums, but the passion in these videos, and the sheer obession and dedication to your craft is what brings me in. I NEVER expected a random musician who happened to review bad cheap tech landfill would have so much in common with me artistically, but I'm here for it! I can tell you're so happy making these videos and love talking about drums! It's nice to see I'm not the only person who is simultaneously a super nerd about my artistic passion while also living an almost spiritual artistic existence doing what they love.
