That fuzz sounds better live generally. My guess is that distortion really fucks with frequencies and levels for recording. Jambi has a way cooler sound live too but the album is much softer.

I think it's just Evil Joe's mixing style to turn distorted/overdriven bass down a lot since he seems to be guitar first and foremost producer. He did the same thing with Wavering Radiant by Isis' mix when you compare it to the live recordings on their tours before they broke up

Raised on Zeppelin & The Beatles, my father scoffed when I told him in 1991 that TooL would change the history rock & roll. Still blowing my mind to this very day, my pops would occasionally call to tell me of a new rock song he liked. Not so long ago, he said he ‘really liked that TooL song on the radio “Shedding Skin”. With a giggle I replied ‘yeah pop, that’s a good one’, knowing that many years later that he had realized the greatness we all heard many years ago.

Wow! is your surname Nostradamus? how could you pick up that Tool would be a worldwide success in 1991, before they even released an EP? That's one year after formation. Sure they would have had some talent even then, but at such an early stage, assessing they will be history changing in the rock genre takes some predicting!!!

Andrew Lockett LOL! Quite right....TooLDamus. No...I obviously mis-thought or mistyped. ‘93 is what I meant. Although I enjoyed Opiate (‘92) prior to, it was Undertow in which I made that reference to.

I won’t have the time or money to get to any of these, but I’d like to clarify a couple of grievances I’m reading. Unofficially, of course. The band owes you nothing. If you don’t want to pay $500 to interact, hear new sounds, get memorabilia etc, don’t. It’s a limited smaller gathering to allow for Q&A and will help the band offset some upcoming distribution/tour/lighting/gear expenses. Keep in mind they haven’t been garnering much attention and revenue in the last several years. So these exclusive gatherings will help provide some forward momentum for the band and for fans alike. This band has been built on the element of surprise and mystery. I’m glad they haven’t been putting out half-done mixes of their newer material. It will make the album that much more special and the impact less fragmented. Instead of recognizing snippets of familiarity taken out of context of the entire song/album, the band chooses to withhold the totality to maximize the impact of the final presentation. In a music climate full of sound bites, gimmicks and click-bait, I can appreciate that decision. TOOL write songs that unravel slowly and demand patience. This translates into their entire process of gathering ideas, writing, preparing a live performance, and presenting all of that to the listener. Always keep in mind that they owe you nothing. Be thankful they’re still doing this and support them in whatever capacity you feel is appropriate.
@jwdicken1
@jwdicken1 6 жыл бұрын
Also, by limiting entry, they’ll certainly weed out a lot of the bad eggs. Those who make it out will likely be appreciative fans who have a lot of love to give. Unlike some of the douchebagery we see so much of within these threads.

Sample of Tool music clinic: "So we play a note, then play every other note and rhythm combination next and discuss as a group which ones we liked and didn't like. Then we take a week of meditation on that note and reconvene. Then we move onto the next note and yadda, yadda, yadda 15 years later you have an album."

This shit kills me. Seriously I don't think it's normal to have this much inherent, pure love for a band. Tools music, the feelings that are automatically sprung from my souls core...from beyond my knowledge of my time on Earth. .I swear to god, it's not normal. The genuine fear of something sounding and feeling so fucking beautiful...it scares me. Mixed with anticipation, joy, wonder, yet fear. Fear of being so touched to the core of my soul ..tragic beauty.

If you think $500 for this is steep, I'll share my experience. I was lucky that I could charge the ticket price for this, flight, motel, car, and Monster Mash festival ticket. It was the only real traveling I did in 2015. I had never seen TOOL before. My first exposure was at the Tempe VIP. Two friends and I are in the group picture about 2/3 of the way through this video. You can't get any closer while they perform than at one of these events. They answered a LOT of questions. Autographs, photos, discounted merch, and the groups are small. I've seen TOOL perform 6 times since then. Even so, I do plan to go to one of these again, because it truly is worth it.

This is obviously still just a mixed live recording, but my god the vibes from this give me a good feeling that when this album drops its gonna be along the lines of Lateralus or close to it. If its better than 10,000 days i can die happy.

I don't know what to expect cause tool is unpredictable so don't expect it to sound the same as the previous albums. Just anticipate and premeditate. What do we do when an artist is making music? We listen to their old albums from the start a few hours before their new release. We wait. We will have this chance to listen to new tool soon. Patience.

I have to admit (as much as I don't want to) the new APC album is sub-par. 3 good tracks on it but it doesnt stray far from APCs style so thats a good sign. I have complete faith in Maynard to absolutely blow my socks off with the new Tool album. Just release it already.

APC has always been like that... pure expression, and a lot of it is ugly. There's always been only 3/4 songs off each album I enjoy, save for the first album. I can listen to mer de noms all the way through.

APC is Howerdel's precious baby. Maynard does his part as vocalist, but his talent steals the spotlight. Vocalists always get the spotlight, it's just human nature to focus on the person using language. If you look and listen for it you'll see that Howerdel is another case of the non-vocalist songwriter/composer wrestling for attention. The video clips are particularly telling, as they tend to give the extra sweeping shots of the non-vocalist lead. I've seen it in so many other bands and even as far back as 80's pop groups. (Wham, Level 42, Duran Duran, etc)

MrToastly First off, I personally have fallen in love with most of the songs after listening to the whole album a few times. After following their process and interviews, MJK was the one that came in to listen to Billy's work and started stripping away layers to simplify most of the music. You hear it in "Eat The Elephant", the first track. I personally don't like it but it's still a cool song. I like MJK's melodies. Second, MJK doesn't have that type of work ethic with Tool. The other members create the instrumentals while he stays out of it. He comes in to lay down melodies and lyrics. Vocals. I'm sure he may have his input with a few things but he has said many times he lets them finish before doing his vocals. Doesn't sound like he gets in the middle of the instrumentals at all to me but who knows for sure. My point is the new APC record was a collaboration between Billy and MJK in terms of the whole songs. Billy doing all the instrumentals alone would have made a different album.

from what ive read in interviews i think this song is a mashup of pieces of all their new songs. As kind of an introduction to whats coming. But it might not even be on the recording is my understanding.

Remember before 10,000 days came out, all there was,was the intro to vicarious to go on. Makes me wonder if this descending is the intro to a song, an intro to the album, descending into a trance, which is what im going to be in when/if i listen to it
