Next project--how about showing how to set up and grind the center point in transfer punches?? I have always dreaded the day I have to toss one when they get dull. Seems the key would be to get a grinding wheel or a lathe cutter that could meet the base of the angle of the center point.

Thank you for explaining how to use those dowel pins. I am not a machinist but I am learning...slowly..

The dovetail procedure was very helpful. The bonus die grinder fixture was interesting. Make yourself some HDPE way protectors for this procedure and cast iron milling.

Well that worked out pretty good Lee. What's next? Diamond dresser?

Enjoyed the video very much Lee. For the dead centers, I would have run a dial along the angle for a very precise setup, as the centre is best to conform perfectly with the drilled centers for optimum effect. Cheers! Really great treatment for those punches and perfect for a prick punch which needs a smaller angle and is more prone to damage in use. I always found the prick punch made from a round file was the go-to tool for broken bolts and such.

Thanks for the video on cutting the dovetails. I am getting ready to remake a part for a grinder rest that has two sets of dovetails. I really missed the mark on the one I am remaking. This is a Harold Hall design (Home metalworking workshop channel) and may be a little over engineered but it should be very versatile. I think watching you cut your dovetails was a good refresher and I should be able to come up with a much better finished part this time.

I would like to have seen the detail on how you got the angle more exact here 30:06. And as usual, such a fine video of fine workmanship!

Great job, i I just bought one of these die grinders, are these stones rated for 25000 rpm? Don't know own why I thought cut off wheels would work but neither cut off or flip disc's are rated for that rpm. Now I'm worried about these. Chinese stones😬

G'day Lee. Excellent video on making the holder as making the toolpost locator. Most important thing is your modification works really well. Just wondering on the mods to suit R8 or another grind on a longer shaft

Any reason you made the dovetail block so much narrower than the holder? Looks like it left you with minimal meat in the narrow end of the dovetail? Nice project.

If you're cutting a dovetail for a BX size Aloris, two 3/8 edge finders work really well as gages pins. If you put an adjustable parallel between the pins and tighten it up, the size over the parallel comes out close to .750 If you're making matching dovetails, make sure to use the same dovetail cutter for both dovetails to make sure the angle fits nicely.

If the air intake of that grinder is next to the front end, may want to find something to put around it to keep fine metal and stone particles out of motor, we used a piece of panty hose for our 18v Dewalt angle grinder, kelp sucking in metal bits and covering the internals with it, eventually it will burn up the motor if it stays in there, just something to think about to get more life out of your equipment

I was wondering how you were gonna measure the bottom of that dovetail... :-)

I added a shield because those wheels can violently explode because they are cheaply made.

FYI - for best results you need to use a diamond and dress your grinding wheel/point/etc John
