I absolutely appreciate the information you share. Unfortunately I can't afford to go to the dealer with all of my issues. I'm 70 years old and trying to live on a Social Security check. I work on semis and I wanted to see the "rv" style tester in use. Good video, and funny how you accidentally found problems on the trailers. For the semi trailers I have a 8 foot cord with a 7way pin plug on one end and a ring terminal on each wire. Plug it in and use a jump box and rotate between the ring terminals. Using a tester like the M.U.T.T. make you look more professional in front of customers (even though the jump box way works almost as good)

Thanks for the review; I was gonna build one of these myself, but price point makes the purchase worth it for time savings (self-employed). I see they make one dedicated to 7-pin round, which is what I work on most, and I've got adapters to go to blade or smaller pin configs. A circuit dedicated to brake/turn would have been nice, as sometimes pigtails will go bad, cross-circuit and make a guy scratch his head for a bit as some confusing lighting patterns can result (had one instance where hazards would be pulsing electric brakes).

Awesome video. I was just thinking if you’re by yourself, set a mirror up behind the trailer, you still have to peek around each side but I believe you could see the lights working without running back and forth, just a thought.

Just built one for about 65.00 dollars. Now that did not include the used brake controller I had got from a garage sale for 10.00. I used togle switches instead of the rotary switch and I can turn on both turn signals at once. I also use a jumper box instead of a heavy wet cell battery.

I built one I had a remote control it worked up to 100mtrs. You plugged it to your trailer plugs one man operation it was also a jump starter. USB and break down light also charging plug.

Marker lights should be on during turn signals to see a bad ground.

Wish it had an amp meter so you could determine how many brake magnets are working, and li-ion battery would be nice.

I wonder if we could rig up a Milwaukee m12 battery 🤔. Not a bad idea. The motorcycle battery I was using finally died.

There’s an idea. Lead acid and/or dry cell batteries seem to have limited life in an application where they see periods of disuse. An analog amp meter would also be nice. A person could mark it for expected current for 2, 4 or 6 working brakes.

Great video. At approx. 12:08 in the video you said you checked the #9101 trailer light tester with a power probe, how did you test it with the power probe? Can you use a regular test light too?

I was able to touch the power probe to the terminal on the tester for what I was testing to see if there was any output when the tester was used. Such as touching the left turnsignal terminal in the 7 way while actuating that light with the tester. It was the way I checked the tester to make sure it wasnt bad because the lights on the trailer in the video werent working correctly and I wanted to rule out the possible causes. A test light would have worked as well. Also....I was able to use the power probe to supply a ground to the trailer wiring to eventually find that the trailer ground was bad. There one of the great things about the power probe.....a test light would have been able to do that in that case. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
