I think this would sound even better on the Sega Genesis soundchip. If there's one thing the Genesis does well is making drums and basslines sound great. See Shadow Dancer ost for examples. Edit: By the way, if you're a fan of prog and math rock you won't regret looking up Shadow Dancer's ost, I guarantee.
