I’m starting to think reactors can’t win no matter what they do. If they do the official video, you all say they should have done the live video. If they do the live video, you all say they should have done the lyric video. If they do the lyric video, you all say they should have done the official video. No matter what they choose, SOMEONE will inevitably tell them they chose wrong. And it’s every video on every channel at this point.

One of my favourite parts is the way that the song's arrangement reinforces the lyrics' message. The song starts in 5/4, then spends most of the remainder alternating between 5/8, 6/8 and 7/8, which are all "uneven"-sounding time signatures, reinforcing the messages of disconnection and disjointedness in the lyrics. And then, right at the end, it shifts back to the much more stable-sounding 8/8...while Maynard repeats "I know the pieces fit". Genius.

This song included. Sometimes it takes a brutal stare into the abyss of our own souls to see self-truths we weren’t aware of, and nothing really helps bring that out better than an excellent song! It's not just about "a" relationship, it's humanity as a whole. We've separated from ourselves and thus each other. Humanity as forgotten we're all just here trying...and failing...and not stopping to talk and hear each other and pick the other up, whomever that other is. Passion has become violence in it's action...in the name of...fill in the blank. We don't share it freely, we preach it, and that's very different.

@@bloodblitzowns11 A mindset of "winning" an argument is the antithesis of compassion. When I have a conflict with my partner the first thing I do is give up trying to convince them I am "right." Instead {if they are stable enough) I ask without any sarcasm to explain what they are feeling and thinking, then repeat it as best I can in my own words. Once they agree I understand often the conflict is over. When it is not they ASK me to explain my side - reciprocation. This will only work if both of you truly still care about each other. The are other techniques but being mindful of your own emotional state and learning listen to it in a way that allows you to calm down is at the heart of all of that.

The song is absolutely about relationships and conflict but also about repairing and rebuilding off the existing foundations of those relationships. The song, if I recall correctly, was written about the conflict that existed within the band at that time that was preventing them from writing new music and touring.

After 34 years & everyday listening to my fav band here seeing people reacting to them takes me rate back 34 years ago hearing my fav band for the first time. These reactions breathe new life into me through passion of enthusiasm. This band isnt just a band these 4 extraterrestrials have saved my life more than i can count. This band got me through Bladder & Prostate Cancer in 2021. After my coma i would rediscover them like it was brand new again for me like time stood still. Then in 2013 after my baby died this band kept me alive daily. Now while i battle shingles for the second month once again my fav band is getting me through my pain internally & externally. T📀💿L = Life for Me. 🤘🏼 Being so intense & hardcore fot this band is keeping me alive & loving life so much. The past 34 years with my fav band i have grown spiritually & have become so calm.

The whole Lateralus album is an absolute journey. If I hit a point in life where my anxiety and stress levels push me to the brink, I listen to that album and it brings me down from the emotional ledge. I can't recommend the whole album enough. I LOVE watching people react to Tool. Their lyrics are so amazing and I'm so glad you could see that and point it out to people. My favorite song by them is Parabola. It's a reminder for me, in the throes of depression, that I chose to be here and the pain I feel is an illusion even tho it feels devastating. It's helpful for me to be able to separate myself from the pain so I can examine it from a higher perspective

Honestly.. it makes me wanna cry seeing a woman understand this song.. because mine didnt. Wanted to argue about everything no matter how hard i tried to communicate.. And it all fell apart in the end and i lost the woman i was in love with for over a decade and my "family" which was her and all my 3 kids. I still see them.. but its not the same.. never will be for me.. just have to make sure i make the best of it for THEM so they still have something to save from it all. As hard as she tries to make that. Couldnt even explain if i tried. Someone out there wish me luck

From DyllonKG: @J-RAD_notAnNpc Hey my friend. Firstly, thank you so much for bearing your soul and posting a comment here. This had to be difficult to go through and Im proud of you for opening up. In your post you mention a fallout between you and your wife. You talked about how you tried to communicate, be open, and build a bridge but that it all fell apart despite your best efforts. And now you co-parent your children together but it seems like you still feel a lot of pain. That sounds so so difficult to have gone through and my heart absolutely goes out to you. I imagine that trying your best and putting so much of yourself out there, only for things to still not work out, is so so exhausting. I imagine feeling powerless and frustrated and defeated at the end of it all. I do not judge you in the slightest for how you're feeling. For much of my life, I struggled to make the pieces fit with other people. I can't say ive lost something that was perfect - but the hindsight there is 20/20. I *have* lost relationships with people where I thought things were a great fit. In that pain, I found a lot of myself. For me, what I thought was open communication wasn't as good as it could've been. I learned that my anxieties spilled into my relationships in a way that put my partners on edge and made them defensive against me. In that, I'm saying that splitting up gave me a moment to reflect and do better. And become better. And even though I currently co-parent an 8 year old, that opportunity to grow and do better and be better sets my daughter up for the best chances of success. All of that being said, I dont know your experiences or what you've gone through. Your situation may not be the same at all. But I think there are things to learn everywhere. Positive takeaways that can set your and your kids future up for success. I am proud of you for your perseverance and capability. I hope you are safe and that your family is ok. If you ever need to write back, feel free to keep us updated on your life. On what's happening. Feel free to vent. We're here to shoulder some of that burden with you. Hold fast, friend.
