@cynzia_d4 жыл бұрын
This song is written probably thinking about Maynard James Keenan's mother Judith Marie, who suffered a stroke in 1976 that left her partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. She thought it was a test from God and thought that she would be rewarded for her faith. It's a play on words because it can also mean his mother being the patient of medical care. This song, more in general, is told from the perspective as someone who has struggled to deal with his mother's or loved one's declining health. No matter how close they are, I'm sure the situation weighed on him HEAVILY and made him want to just give up hope.. "if there were no loving embrace to see me through, I certainly would have walked away by now" meaning he is probably just tired of his mother suffering, and if she weren't so loving, he probably would have walked away. But, he remained patient and cared for his mother until the very end (10,000 days after her initial medical issue... get it?). This is the possible interpretation but there is much more. "If there were no desire to heal The damaged and broken met along This tedious path I've chosen here I certainly would've walked away by now. And I still may ... (sigh) ... I still may." You are close to someone you love who is struggling with health issues and you need to remain if there is still Hope to heal. When He sings "i must keep reminding myself of this" He repeats it a lot of times until his voice becomes a sigh, this is fucking painful, you can feel the despair in his voice, this is a brilliant way to add meaning to the words. I feel this song is very sad. His voice is full of drama and pain. He sings like having tears in his throat, like a suffocated cry, never heard so much pain, He seems like a bird in a cage struggling to Fly away like a vocal coach once said. It has a development, in music, very strong. The beginning is pretty dark, the bass riffing is very obscure and his chant is so melancholic ... then the guitar solos after the bridge are mindblowingly heavy , same for the ending part and then again is darkness. It is a portrait of a very inner painful state of mind.

My condolences for your loss. Strokes leave people with the most difficult injuries. I know what it’s like to not be able to have the conversations you both want to have because they can’t communicate their thoughts. I only knew maybe three songs until a few years ago, 2019 fear innoculum got my attention then I dove in deep. Everything about these artists’ musical composure makes me feel more alive, more present, less numb.
