Tool songs are usually pretty deep, most times it takes me a couple listens to fully respect the meaning of the lyrics and the instrumentation as well. suggest trying lyric videos for *right in two* or *46&2* or *Lateralus* by Tool. If you're not into that kind of music you may not feel them, but when you take everything in that they offer it's a unique experience compared to any other bands. All depends on what you can feel. 🤘🤯🤘

Tool songs usually have multiple meanings behind their lyrics and are also about self reflection to better ourselves and how we treat one another. This song in particular I feel talks about how we judge one another. "black kettle", "eye holes deep in muddy waters". He also mentions Kangaroo courts where you try someone without substantiated evidence and assuming they are already guilty.

Like other people commented, the song is about hypocrisy. Like the pot calling the kettle black. Pot also has a double meaning as he's talking about the smokable kind at the same time. "kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent"-- This is in reference to a kangaroo court, which is a trial that isn't conducted in a lawful manner. It's about prejudice and making up your mind about someone without bothering to have all the evidence. It's another thing that hypocrites tend to do.

We're so quick to judge/condemn drug users (pot etc) but we have to have our caffeine, nicotene, sugar, etc... all of it's addictive. If that is what you took from it then ok, but seeing as how Maynard doesnt indulge in drugs, even pot, then I highly doubt he's trying to say society's view on drug users is misinformed. It is though about being a hypocrite, in whatever form that may take. People waving fingers to say you are doing wrong when they also do wrong things in their life. The refferences to Pot arevery clear, there's even a clear reference to ganja (which is another name for pot). It IS about the hypocrisy of the response drug culture. He's not even slightly promoting using drugs, but he is pointing out the extreme hypocrisy in response to drugs in a lot of societies. And the several layers of it. The fact that many of the people who condemn illegal drugs are often taking legal drugs. The fact that many in power get away with drug offenses, whereas the less well off get heavy punishment for those same offenses. The whole system is riddled with hypocrisy, and I see no discrepancy in pointing out the hypocrisy in society on this subject without consequently promoting the use of drugs, those are two separate issues

The pot is a song about hypocrisy (note the use of pot and the black kettle and the old addage of the pot calling the kettle black). it also references hypocrisy in the government, and running kangaroo trials against drug users saying "kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent" (kangaroo trials are like fake trials where they already know the outcome of the trial, making the trial like a public dance as oppposed to having the defendent actually present their case and properly defend themselves). The song says they must've been out of their minds, calling them high shedding tears of cozened indigo; indigo because they're high, cozened because they're fake tears. The lyrics follow that up with Lemon juice in the eye as if to help them fake their tears.

TOOL is one of the greatest bands of ALL TIME in my humble opinion. Their response cracked me up. Maynard James Keenan (singer of Tool) knows exactly how to make ones mind emplode cz of the utter genius level of skills with writing song lyrics and to make shit even MORE phenomenal, he has the vocal cords so f'n versatile - long amazing winded outright screams down to the gentlest almost angelic like skill of sound. I know that probably sounds really dumb the way I explain it but I honestly CANT truly explain how amazing the 4 guys in this band really are.

New to your channel but love it. Aenima and a few other tool songs have been in my playlist for years (loved the aenima reaction). I've heard this song before but never really understood what the lyrics were and I never paid much attention to it so I'm reacting right along with you. Awesome song. I would love to see a reaction to black sabbath's "a national acrobat". Wierd name for a song but it's dope. If you're interested, you should also look into some megadeth songs. I'm a huge fan of them and it's always fun seeing people's reaction to them because they are a different sounding band. I would recommend "looking down the cross" by them or "the conjuring". You would probably like the band static x also. I would recommend "I'm with stupid" or "destroyer". As you can probably tell, music is really important to me and I love seeing new people's reactions to songs I've heard a thousand times. Alright, im done with my drunken ramblings. The band was sued by a member of the management staff and during the lawsuit there was a claim that the band members were constantly high and unreliable. The band claims this member was removed due to having a drug issue also. The lawsuit was latter dropped due to lack of any evidence and Maynard was free to write a song about the hypocrisy of people close to the band. This is not the first time the band has sued and also wasn’t the last they were sued after 10,000 days was released by a artist who claimed to own the rights to Alex greys artwork that was used on the album. That law suit was thrown out before it even made it too court

From what I heard this song is a diss track towards Led Zeplin for calling out other bands about stealing shit. According to reddit detectives (so take with a grain of salt) they were sued by the artist Muddy Waters back in the day, and the Lemon Juice is in reference to a song they stole from and also got sued for. So this song is all about hypocrisy in our system. I saw that you guys didn't really get the point when the video was over but it's actually pretty simple. Maynard (the singer) was incarcerated for possession of the good herb, and he was treated like a death row inmate, receiving the maximum penalty for having less than a gram on him, and he dealt with months of jury duty & other bullshit, and this song is just an intricate and very intellectual reaction to the Arizona legal system; a very coy way of saying fuck you without using profanity or incriminating lyrics. Also, there are references to the concept of a "Kangaroo Court", a jesus-like situation in which the verdict is decided regardless of the jury's decision, "Guilty hung with the innocent".

I was very liberal for most of my life. I am more conservative now but it has nothing to do with race. It’s about that MF’er who’s always talking about what’s wrong with your life, while they’re “eyeballs deep” in their own sh:t. “The weeping shades of indigo” part is just a fancy way of saying the person (or persons) the song is about is crying now, but those tears are in vain because they’re only crying because they got called out. Think of someone in your life who puts you down only to make themselves feel better, but who never sees their own flaws. Let’s put it this way, the song is calling out someone that would condemn another for doing something normal like say someone says that “rap doesn’t take skill, it’s just a bunch of words said fast by wanna be thugs and the music sucks if you can even call that crap music.” Yet you then catch them listening to Rage Against The Machine Bulls On Parade where the vocalist is literal rapping rapping and the only real difference is the instruments used to make the instrumental part of the song. All Tool songs are deep for a start. They don't do it w/o layers and more layers. That said, this song is a stab at hypocrisy.
