Official Simple Little Life video of: Tool Time Tuesday - the automatic centre punch. Love these little tools. Use them all the time, they're not super expensive and they make very accurate layout for holes a snap.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

I must say that your T3 Videos are one of my fav. on youtube. They are short, informative and knowledge and skill easily consumable. Just the right amount of details. Thanks Mate!

That "Blue Point" is made by Lisle for people who want the original manufacturer/don't want to pay snap on price for a non snap on tool.

They have more expensive automatic centre punches that should last longer, since you use them so much, but for the average hobbyist the cheap ones are def the way to go xD

I've had that Blue Point YA 805 for 35 years. It stays in my shirt pocket and gets used every day, along with my Olfa Silver knife.

Hey, Yep that center punch is a great tool, been using that shorter one you showed in your video. I NEVER OPENED MINE UP TO SEE HOW IT WAS ASSEMBLED OR HOW IT WORKS> . BUT, When it went through the wash and my wife told me there were a few brass items in the dryer. I picked up the pieces which included two springs a plastic tube the body, the top and the pointy end. Do you know the order of how it goes back together? Can you lay it out in a photo? Thanks

These are pretty simple devices and should be rebuildable given that the wear parts are the hardened point and the spring. Big difference between the aluminum cases and steel cases like on a Starrett or Brown & Sharpe so get a good one and it will last for years.

A word of caution: Don't rely on a cheap automatic center-punch as a rescue glass-breaker. If the metal point isn't much harder than the glass, it will only make divots on the glass, and won't shatter it properly. I tested 2 glass breakers on some car windows in a junkyard, and the cheap one wouldn't break a window, no matter how hard I struck it. The good one shattered the entire window very easily.

Was that a home made draw knife?
@BrianTheBee
@BrianTheBee 7 жыл бұрын
No, its a homemade sanding block of sorts. The beveled edge is used to get the sandpaper into tight spots like the plunge line of the grind.

Yes, it is very handy. But dont buy on Aliexpress for 3€. It is a piece of shit made of mud, not tool steel. After 5 strokes is hammering mechanism weared out. But, If you have a lathe and piece of tool steel rod, you can make quality internal parts at home and use only very nice build casing.

If you Use it to brake glass it will blunt the tip. I think glass definetly has a higher hardness than the tip of the autocentre punch.
