I acquired one of these yesterday for free and it needed a lot of work. This helped simplify the process. Thank you, much

Free??? That’s awesome! The DeWalt DW734 is a great little planer once it’s tuned up. Glad you found the video helpful.

Thanks for this! I have the same model, and it's giving me a pop and some resistance when adjusting the height. Thanks to your video, I'm a little more confident in opening her up to take a look around 👍

Just a note, don't remove the four screws holding the side panels to the top cover. Just remove the cover screws and the side panels will lift off with the cover. Eliminates breaking the side panel screw holes.

Good video. The broken plastic bits may make the machine buzz or rattle. I'd epoxy them back in place.

What do you use for dust collection? I make wood/epoxy cutting boards and I can’t seem to figure out what is best for dust.
@PetefromBaltimore9 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching. Dust collection is an issue for me as well. For my smaller tools(routers, mitersaw, sanders, etc.) I use a Rigid shopvac hooked up to a Dust Deputy cyclone separator. For my larger tools (Table saw, planer, jointer) I use a small 1hp dust collector with 4” hose. Both systems are just ok capturing maybe 90% of larger grained sawdust. The fine dust still goes everywhere.

Hi Peter .. can I know what’s dust collector HP or brand name attached to planer ? I have DW734 and looking for good dust collector at reasonable price
@PetefromBaltimore7 күн бұрын
Hi there! I’m using a 20 year old Grizzly dust collector. Its similar to this one that they currently sell. www.grizzly.com/products/grizzly-1-hp-light-duty-dust-collector-polar-bear-series/g1163p I use it for my Table Saw, Planer & Jointer. I connect it to each tool with a 10 foot hose with slip on connectors on each end. It does a good job. Thanks for watching!

Should you of checked the motor as well?
@PetefromBaltimore11 күн бұрын
Motor was running well before tuneup. No strange noises or vibrations. Can you share how someone would check the motor for proper operation? Thanks for watching.

@ I’ve honestly no idea, I was curious, recently got ahold of my grandfathers dewalt dw743 planer over thanksgiving and came across your video, I got it working

what was the issues when you replaced the belt? I have been having this clunking noise in mine , while on even with nothing running through. It i feel like it would make sense if it was the gear or belt system. the piece of lumber stop and goes and leaves roller marks on the piece almost like the roller is getting pressed harder at one point in the every rotation of the roller.
@PetefromBaltimore Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The issue I had with the belt is it started to fail while planing some hardwood… specifically white oak. The belt was very old and broke apart while planing. I suggest changing out belt if its very old.

Got one for $60 today. Rust on the supporting columns, a lot of gunk and old saw dust and it doesn't turn on. Upon checking, its missing the motor brushes. Hopefully those are the only reason why it won t start.

Hopefully you can get it up running. Its a great little machine when it’s set up well. Good luck!

I saw your video. Hope you can help me . I changed the blades I turned it on and it shakes so much the screws on the metal table vibrate off
@PetefromBaltimore7 ай бұрын
Hard to say what went wrong. Its probably best to go back in and make sure all blades are installed correctly. Also, maybe check belt to verify its correctly seated. Good luck.
