Hey, Momma. Delighted you had all the backstory of the song. It does add depth. Also greatly appreciate the list of Tool songs you're familiar with. Now I know which ones to throw your way. (The numbers they bring in don't hurt either.) Re: "Judith" v. "Marie", I've heard Maynard say, "If you can't get your sh*t out with one song, go get help." For me, it seems his issue was more with the people surrounding his mother than his own feelings, but that's the beauty of interpretation. We pick out what's important to us. Maynard has a way of being all of us. Re; drummers. Now that Peart's gone, Carey wears the crown. One day, should we be afforded a private conversation, I'll tell you my "Wings" story. And just like the song, another epic reaction! Thanks, Momma!

Favorite Tool songs are elusive, mine constantly shifts almost as much as my current mood or situation so I have given up on pinning a singular favorite, but "Flood" is consistently high on the list, it's a little backward compared to usual and begins with the instrumental progressive craziness and then drives and focuses into the lyrical and "more normal" part of the song about halfway through and it's a sublime ride. "46 & 2" is up there as well, likely I find resonance with the songs that are more about running from things or evolving (or both at the same time) since my reflex is to run and avoid but what I know I should do is evolve and gain power to conquer challenges whenever feasible. Both songs are a bit about that. And "Right In Two" sometimes takes #1 for me as a reminder to not be a silly monkey and make animalistic choices. "Swamp Song" is thematically related to "The Pot" so perhaps you'd like that more, and it's structured very cool. Of course Opiate and Undertow were not mastered/engineered quite as amazingly as the newer releases but I like the the crusty/muddy nature, and the previous bassist (Paul, switched over to Justin partway through Ænima) had a less experimental but very smooth style. Technically "Lateralus" (ladder-Alice) is their magnum opus song according to most everyone, via structure and composition and all members taking turns as the focus/driver in the progression, and lyrics with multiple layered meanings, the "whole package".

A crazy thing to keep in mind listening to this is that the band writes all the music before Maynard gets involved. It seems like the music is custom designed for these, and other Tool song, vocals but it's the other way around. Both a testament to Adam, Justin, and Danny's musical genius, and to Maynard's ability to find the perfect vocals and lyrics for the already written music.

Parabol and Parabola off of the album Lateralus. These two songs count as one, should be played with no gap in between. I love the message of the song.
@XathexXАй бұрын
These two songs are a gift to all of us. First all interpretations are valid.. My opinion: Part 1: This an internal struggle with guilt and sadness. With the key change when he sings "...to be worthy?" and the answer is not words but feeling in the music anger then return to questioning. truly an example of grief. Part 2: This is the external dealing with all the people that never supported her and only showed up AFTER she died speaking like they were there the whole time.. "Gather around spewing sympathy, Spare me" then using HER symbolism to express his love even though he actively rebelled against Christianity. This is even further tribute... to speak love the language that she would here. At the very end "Hallelujah, it's time for you to bring me home" the last note sung with hope, love, and acceptance the way SHE would want her son to remember her.

Yep it's settled, you need more Tool on your channel!! LOL How about something from their Salival Live album?? Their cover of a Peach song 'You Lied' is a solid starting choice. Peach is Justin Chancellor's (Tool's bassist) former band. It's got an awesome groove and the audio quality is outstanding!! Most anything on the album is amazing actually!! Sub'd for the next one!

I had heard "Sober" on the radio a lot... loved the song all along. Their music didn't cross my path much beyond that until about 2018-19 and I explored several of their songs. Not long after, I started creating first time reaction compilations on my other channel (@WonderMommaOG). I had it in my mind almost from the beginning of that channel that one day I might want to do reactions myself. Tool is a band I wanted to deep dive. So I didn't explore their music much beyond what I already knew so that when I did start doing reactions, they would genuinely be the first time I had heard them. But the fact remains I'm a huge fan and recognize their uniqueness. Hope this helps it make sense.

10/10 songs. They always remain difficult to listen to compared to their bangers. Just waves of emotions to go through with Wings for Marie 1 and 2. Perhaps that is why most people dont view the 10000 Days album as top tier, but I feel like its right up there with Lateralus and Aenima. Quintessential Tool.
@justbrowsing5279Ай бұрын
He had anger and sadness regarding her illness, death, and the role that religion played. Judith was more an expression of the anger while Wings is clearly the sadness and admiration of his mother. Two sides of the same coin. Not intending to be critical. Love the video! Wings 1 and 2 is, to my mind, the best and saddest song ever written. I cry every time. I would cry even without the vocals.

I recommend Tool's "Eulogy" and "Third Eye". Two amazing songs that all the big reaction channels haven't done. The studio version of third eye is great, but the live version on Salival is better in some ways for sure. Then there's Push It. Push It should be the live Salival version for sure.

Great reaction to a beautiful and poignant song (although 2, I consider them 1). You can tell Maynard really loved his mom! Since you know APC's Judith, the contrast in his stance is perhaps the most telling. Here, while still not understanding her faith to God, he's accepting, where in Judith he was downright angry and accusing. He's come to terms that it was her path - and perhaps the most important line signifying that is 'Hallelujah' - meaning 'praise the Lord' - I think he's praising her! I can't keep dry eyes with this song - specifically when they get to 'give me my wings' line. The music is perfect...but it's Tool, so that's a given! Cheers.

He didn't change his stance. His point is, if she and others are going to believe these fairy tales and put up with the congregation and preachers judgement and hypocrisy then she at least deserves to be anointed a saint. Maybe he went from being an atheist to agnostic, but he is no outright believer as is evident throughout the discography. He is saying IF (and that's a very big if) she didn't waste her life praising the one who "tested" her and putting up with her fellow congregation then she deserves every bit of praise and adoration that that POS diety can give. The first part is a direct letter to her and the second part is a letter to whomever if possible. The only 100% clear thing is that he's let it all go (anger, disgust, grudge, etc).
