Another excellent video! I have been wanting to upgrade several lights and this provided a lot of information in deciding which ones to purchase. Thanks again!

One of the biggest factors in LED bulbs dying due to heat is the direction that they are mounted. When the screw in socket is above the LED's, heat tends to be trapped around the electronics, and you will likely get 2 years out of a 5 year bulb. The same is true of the tube lights - if they put out heat that is trapped with the bulb the bulb dies quickly. When converting shop fixtures, try to use fixtures with 10 mm or more above the bulb.

Will you be discussing LED strip lights anytime soon?

I've been kicking around the idea, but I don't know if I'll get to them soon. I'm thinking about one video that covers the how-to part of using strips and external drivers. Then another video that does a light test of strips vs tubes. Anything in particular you'd like me to cover?

The payback is entirely dependent on how often a light is used and for what duration. Giving a blanket number of 4 or 6 months is too categorical. Either explain the formula so a viewer can figure it out or go with the tried and true YMMV.

That was just a generic example to illustrate that the extra bulbs won't increase the payback period by some unreasonable amount. It was not intended to be an absolute measure of payback period. Everyone has different circumstances so yes, there can be no blanket statement on lifespan.

Just buy high quality (more expensive) brands! In 3 years I have yet to have a failure. Typically I only buy Cree!

I've had great luck with Cree integrated LED lights (zero failures to date - knock on wood), but their LED replacement bulbs have still failed on me. Generally, I agree that buying higher quality is a better way to go in the long run, but not fail proof.
