It's time to replace the original serpentine belt on the 100,000 mile Toyota Tundra.
Here's a link to the belt tool that I used: amzn.to/3HhaAh8

I just Replaced it on my 2020 Tundra Trd Pro, I have 150,000 miles on it. And it still drove pretty solid. I just decided to replace it and avoid any issues down the road. I replaced all 3 parts with "Dayco" The Belt, the idle pulley, and the Tension pulley. It all was thanks to your video. Farewell pretty easy. 🎉God Bless

Just wanted to add for anyone interested. Recommend torque as per Toyota for the idler pulley: 32 ft lbs and for both bolts for the tensioner assembly: 17 ft lbs and with a touch of anti-seize. Thanks for video, it’s always nice to have a refresher before taking on the task 🙏

I’m doing head gaskets on my 5.7 tundra. That tensioner pulley center bolt is frozen. I destroyed the old tensioner and put a pipe wrench on it. No dice. I just really wanted to rule out a left hand thread scenario, which your video did. Beyond that, thank you for keeping it short and sweet. All too often I have to go through a half hour of bull before it gets into the meat of it.

That sucks about your bolt being frozen. I appreciate you, hope it goes better. 🔧💪

Great video! By far the easiest to follow without over complicating it. Love that I have my orginal 07 tundra with 220k and everyone on here my 2020 has 150k. it's 4 years old.......jesus, you driving to the moon each summer 😂

Great videos! What surprises me is how nice and clean the engine bay is! Up here in Ontario, Canada, a lot of us rust proof our vehicles from winter salt that will eat your truck for lunch! It does work however, the Krown spray will attract every bit of dirt, grime, dust and any other crud to the entire under body! When I see you with your arms reaching down to install the belt I envision myself completely black from arsehole to tea kettle! One of the crosses to bear living up here. Oh well, it is what it is! Cheers. P.S. That damn skid plate is getting heavier every year!

Great video. I'm sure I'll be coming back to it before too long. I didn’t even consider replacing the tensioner or idler before seeing this, but that's a fantastic idea.

My head hurts trying to figure out how it goes on without going around the fan, but I know it can come off that way because I just did the job.

To me it seems much easier on top using the Toyota procedure taking off the top hose and removing the fan shroud and fan blade. I’ve done it so many times this way on 4 runners and tundras it’s easy to me. Slightly More up front work but you have way more room to put on the belt and idler/tensioner.

What is the socket/wrench attachment you used for the first bolt on the tensioner? It looks like a hex but I’m not sure and want to make sure I have the right tools to do this on my GX460

You better continue to avoid hitting stuff , because that skid plate will pancake and bend on the slightest bump, and be hard to remove after

Should you also replace the water pump at the same time? I heard it was a common failure component. Also what mileage do you change the serpentine belt? Keep up the great work. ❤

The water pump will tell you when it’s ready to be replaced. It will develop a small leak near the drive pulley input shaft. My rule for replacing serpentine belts is every hundred thousand miles.

Is the crank shaft wheel supposed to spin? I’m not a mechanic and know nothing about doing this. I have a 2007 Tundra Limited 220k miles on it and the belt just busted. The small wheel to the left Isn’t moving either so I’m sure that will need to be replaced. I’m doing it myself since I love over an hour from a shop and the belt broke in my driveway.
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos 2 ай бұрын
No, the crankshaft pulley should be firmly fixed to the crankshaft. It will only spin if the engine is turning - or the pulley is loose or broken.

If you mentioned it during this video, I missed it, but why did you have the front right wheel off the Tundra? The only time this was shown, I think, was around the 8:08 mark when you were reinstalling the skid plate. Thanks for sharing these Tundra videos 👍 I’ve purchased a few items that you’ve suggested in the past and I’ve used your advice when doing some maintenance on my 2020 Tundra Platinum 4x4.

Glad to hear you’re keeping your Tundra in tiptop shape. They don’t make them like that anymore. As far as the tire goes, I did multiple services that day. Oil change, transmission fluid, and a tire rotation. I’m putting together a 100,000 mile service video coming soon.

Having a hard time getting the belt on the last pully on the bottom got the pin in to keep the pully tensioner in place and I know I have the right belt it's a micro-v K080948. I have not idea why it won't go on. All the other parts of the belt are on correctly. I feel stuck
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos 4 ай бұрын
The easiest pulley to end with will be the biggest one. Especially if it doesn’t have a flange on the outside. So for this tundra, try routing the belt where the fan pulley is the last one you pull the belt over. It should be easier to get the belt over that because it’s smooth. Also consider pulling the tensioner back further than the pin can hold it, it’ll give you a lot more slack. Maybe ask a friend to hold the wrench while you route the belt.

Another great video, much appreciated. Like how you always say the size of the bolt or hex needed. Did you use OEM or Dayco for the tensioner and idler parts? Also do you have a favorite belt brand?
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos 6 ай бұрын
Thanks. The OEM had Dayco stamped on it, but I bought a Gates brand. As far as belts go, I’ve been buying Bando and have had success.
