As always robins a real pleasure to watch, oozing with knowledge and expertise! Im slightly surprised you use festool so much though, always think it looks a but chinsy and breakable to me even if they do come with some great features. Bit too much damage to the bank balance for my liking in all!

We made a jig to cut 100mm celotex, it combined a recip saw mounted to the underside of an 8 X 4 sheet of ply set between two trestles, an adjustable fence made with 3 x 2 timber and another "bridging" timber set at 105mm above the ply with a slot for the blade to prevent the celotex from jumping, worked a treat and surprisingly accurate........watch out Festool

@a-carpenter92296 жыл бұрын
I feel that any of that kind of insulation or foam board insulation at 2" (50mm) and less could be easily cut with a track saw, turn the blade speed down so there's no melting from heat and have the dust extractor on full and you'd be able to rip down sheets of the stuff easily. This saw would excel at thicker material. Too bad it doesn't bevel though. Great video btw

Alternatively buy the Bosch jigsaw blade for insulation. She's a beaut
@BischBaschBosch6 жыл бұрын
Yeh, I use the Bosch T1013AWP jigsaw blade for PIR. They're made for cutting insulation and 250mm long so will even do the 150mm stuff. Also use the Bosch jigsaw guide rail adapter with it. The only genuine use for jigsaw/guide rail combo I've found! You got to use full pendulum motion and not force the cut though. Otherwise you end up with blade deflection. Riving knife a good idea from Festool.
@cliverothwell39083 жыл бұрын
I have one Cuts amazing but it slows the job down and extra slow cutting angles having to add 50mm each time Festool need to make its own guide rail or unit base that fits the plunge saw rail properly. Yes I use 50 mm blocks as well. Still recommend it though

(2:33) damn, the guy showing the insulation saw nearly cut your finger off!
@dan2uk15 жыл бұрын
I always cut my insulation with a saw. I am pretty good at keeping it square. We don't cut it tight. We allow around 5 or 10mm around the edges. We then use mega stick around the whole thing, cut off and use aluminium tape around it. Seems to get a really good result on the air tests.

Have you had any experience with the multi foil insulation actis? Think I’m gonna give it a try on my next one but don’t seem that many people have a opinion on it
@ukconstruction6 жыл бұрын
It's a good product, I have got some on test at the moment, I like the fact that there is a viable alternative to PIR boards!
@SkillBuilder6 жыл бұрын
Ben I have had a few argument with the manufacturers of Multi foil. They could never substantiate that claim and I challenged them to do so. It is highly effective at returning radiated heat but it relies heavily on a sealed air gap. If you eliminate air movement you get a sealed void which is effective. Here is an extract from the report of a meeting at the Building Centre in London written by Mark Brinkleymarkbrinkley.blogspot.com/2007/01/multifoils-last-throw-of-dice.html 'An expert from the Multifoil alliance ran through the methodology that would be employed in carrying out the tests, but he was later questioned in depth on this by Roger Bisby of Professional Builder Magazine who noted that they were only planning to test against mineral wool and that in a configuration that would no longer pass UK building regs (basically wool stuffed between rafters). “Why not test against Pu foam instead,” asked Roger. Hendriks appeared to be unaware of the current requirements of Part L, saying that no one built like that in Holland anyway as they mostly used panelised roof sections. He also pointed out that there were both cost and time implications for further comparitive tests. “Why not three roofs, why just two?” went the questioning. “I am sure Kingspan would be willing to help with costs.” This observation met with a good deal of laughter from the audience, rather less from the panel.' My point is that if you compare that to mineral wool with air rushing over the top surface the figures are comparable but compared to PIR board tightly fitted the multi-foil is still second best. If you can't get the board in then the mult-foil is better than nothing.

@@DPJOINERY The Stakker Humanoid Industries Insulation Saw does not need a track because it uses GPS tracking for a perfect straight line cut. Doesn't have a riving knife or blade as it uses a powerful Laser Beam. The unit operates at 3 volts from 2xAA batteries and has a 3 month run time per set of batteries. Depth of Cut is 300mm. Extra features include a special 'Carvery' mode for all your Turkey or Beef slicing requirements !! Perfect for Christmas !!
