Bought the Bosch. Extremely satisfied. Low vibration and excellent dust collection with a shop vac. Also, the finish using Diablo sand paper from 80, 100, 120, 180, 220 is great. Plenty of power for hardwoods. Build quality is great.

@@ToolMetrix Just currious if yoy have also had any experience with the one made by Mikita? I have two palm sanders, one I bought years ago and the other was my fathers and they both work great to this day and make me wonder if looking into the Mikita / Milwaukee orbitals are a good option. I'm sure they cost double or more than the Dewalt.

Female here also, and really appreciate the in depth review. Getting ready to refinish laminate countertops, using lux-rock which has mineral flecks in it. The kit provides some sanding pads for an orbital sander, and since my only sander is a small iron shaped one, I knew I needed something beefier. Less vibration and ability to provide a really smooth finish with minimal dust is exactly what I'm going for. Thanks so much!

Hey I wrote u but for some reason when I came back to make a correction to it I don't even see my comment here!? So if it suddenly post both well??? This is why!? I came back to correct the RIDGID TO SKIL!! IT IS SKIL!!! WHO WAS BOSCH!! AND STILL MADE IN THE BOSCH FACTORY IN IL OR IN!? NOT RIDID!!! RIDGID IS MADE BY RYOBI AMD MILWAUKEE MC!! AND NOT THAT GOOD!! SOOO SORRY I SAID RIDGID INSTEAD OF SKIL! I WORKED OUTSIDE AND THEN LATE LAST NIGHT AND WAS EXHAUSTED AND GOING IN OUT OF SLEEP DOZING OFF WHILE WRITING SO ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN WHEN I DO THAT!? LOL LOL I do a lot of wood work for myself! And I was needing to do some again and needing to asap...get back to my Truck Camper Bld! Kinda bounce around from 1 to the other!? But I absolutely loveee creating blding making fixing things and LOVEEE THE RT TOOLS to make my job faster better easier!! Anyways I had had a 3.5 Ryobi and wormed it hard! It burned up?? Quit working and I HAD TO FIND GET A NEW SANDER!!! And so I went out looking....and I found the BOSCH WHICH I LIKED RT OFF THE BAT!? Came home tried it out! It comes WITH A VERY NICE CASE!!! I mean THE BOSCH IS ONE SMOOTH AS HELL QUIET AS HELL LOWWW VIBRATION LOWWW NOISE SWEET SMOOTH DO ALLL THE WORK FOR U SWEETASS TOOL!!! AND AT 59 IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!!!! DEWALT IS LIKE SOME INSANE?? 179?? Can't remember now?? But Dewalt is just too damned pricey for me! New anyways!? The Bosch seems low power til u start sanding then that bad boy kicks into overdrive and Holly hell!! IT DOES ALLLL THE WORK NO BARING DN NO PRESSURE NO SHIT!!! U just hold it where u want it keep it moving and OHHH MYYY GOD IT DOES GREAT!!!! AND ALMOST 0000 DUST IFFF THE LID IS ON THE PLASTIC CONTAINER TIGHT AND RT! OLY THING IS THE LID IS SO HARD TO GET OFF I GOTTA USE A FLATHEAD TO GET IT OFF! ESP SINCE I HAVE BAD WEAK HANDS!! U WILL NOT GO WRONG NOR EVER BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE BOSCH!!! NICE SOFT PADDING AND NOT HUGE OR REAL HEAVY!? LOVE HOW QUIET AND LOW VIBE AND LOW NOISE IT IT!! LOVE THE SAND CONTAINER!! ESP IF U HAVE TO SAND INSIDE LIKE I AM HAVING TO DO RT NOW! ONE BIG REASON I GOT IT AS WELL BECAUSE I NEEDED GOOD DUST CONTAINMENT IF I USE IT INSIDE!? AND IT COMES UN SUCH A NICE CASE TO!! Lowes also had Kobalt Tool Bags a little bit bigger than that on clearance! So u bought the remaining 4 and cleaned my other tools and organized them in their nice new storage homes!! Finally they have a case and r organized!!! The new Kobalt BLUE bags look super nice to!! Anyways I HOPE THIS HELPS! I AS A WOMAN LOVE TO SEE TOOLS OE FIND TOOLS THAT E WOMEN FRIENDLY AND OR THAT WOMEN LIKE!! SO AS A WOMAN I LOVEEEE THIS!!! AND I WILL DEF BE GETTING ME SOME SKIL TOOLS WITH THOSE NICE BATTERIES WITH THE USB PORT! SKIL IS BASICALLY BOSCH BUT IN FADED RED!? Same price!? Well good luck!!!! Hope this helps!!! 🙏

Plus the lower vibration of the Bosch is canceled out by the longer time it would take to remove material. You have that lower vibration for longer. I have the Bosch and would trade it in a second for the Makita. The slowness is noticeable for some tasks

I hav use the makita ,dewalt and bosch sanders. The makita dust bag is good how ever the sander seems to become shaky after a short space of time, the bosch is also good however the dust collecter is easy to fell off after a short space of time and machine feel lose after short space of time, the dewalt seems to be the one that's stand out the machine doesn't feel lose after and short space of time like the other, t dust bag doesn't feel off easily after been use over a period of time, the backing pad also is of good quality. This i just my views after using these machine for a long period of time. My next purchase will be the matabo palm sander to see how long it can keep up

Great comparison video. I have owned the DeWalt, my shop is in a large basement and because it is a closed in area dust collection has always been important to me. I have two ceiling mount JET AFS-1000B ceiling mount air filters to help keep my lungs clear of dust, I use 3M respirators etc etc. I eventually gave my DeWalt to my son-in-law because dust collection was not good and purchased the Bosch random orbital model ROS20VSC and like you I was amazed at how good it captured dust with the on board canister. I use it with a Fein Turbo II dust extractor/shop vac and could not be happier with the dust collection performance. I did notice right away that the Bosch was not removing as much material as the DeWalt. Not happy about that but it is what it is, my lungs/health are more important. What I also noticed (and tell me if you found the same to be true) was that the Bosch jumped around quite a bit more than the DeWalt I had given away. Regardless of speed or grit of abrasive being used or material being sanded the Bosch model just seems to grab the workpiece and then wants to jump across the workpiece. The DeWalt just ran at any speed/grit/material more smoothly over the workpiece. Not sure if you noticed this or not but it was very noticeable for me when I switched from DeWalt to Bosch. If you have noticed the same I would say this is an attribute that could be added to your comparisons in the future. Just harder to control if that makes sense and requires more work and can cause more muscle fatigue. Reminds me of a how a floor buffer works, they do the same thing until you get the hang of using one. Only with the Bosch sander I don't' think there is any getting the hang of it, it just wants to jump around when it grabs the workpiece and I have never been able to minimize it with acquired skill.

I'm on my second Bosch. I have the one with variable speed, so it was a little more expensive. But, the first one lasted me about seven years before it just stopped working. I thought about going the high-end route with a Mirka or Festool, but just couldn't make myself pull the trigger. Ultimately, I really liked the Bosch. Thanks for the video. I would have loved to see each one hooked up to your shop vac. Every dust port is so different that it would be helpful to actually see how each one looks & feels when it’s hooked up and exactly what adapters are needed to be ready to rock.
@ToolMetrix
@ToolMetrix 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tinkery, Thanks for your feedback. The adapter kit that I showed in the video and sourced in the description was able to connect to each of the sanders except the DeWalt. The Dewalt requires a proprietary adapter that I didn't test. The Bosch came with its own adapter, and I was able to easily connect it to my shop vac using a 2.5" to 1.25" adapter. That connection was very solid. The adapter kit was able to attach to the B&D as well, but that one has two protrusions on the dust port that are used to secure the dust bag, and they block the travel of the shop vac connection. It slides on part of the way, and would stay on fine if you either held the connection while using the sander, or applied a bit of duct tape, which is why I wasn't crazy about the B&D in that respect. The Porter Cable, Makita and B&D used the 3/4" ID portion of the adapter kit to hook up. The TackLife used the 1-1/4" ID connector from the adapter kit.

I have a few years old (?) Black and Decker 2 Amp detail sander (MS2000) which came with both 5" round and 4"x6.75" 'ironing board' shaped pads. I've just used it to sand the surface and railings on a large old pressure-treated deck using 40grit Diablo brand paper discs. It did a great job, consuming about 10 discs, and removing most of the stained/gray wood pretty quickly over about 2 days of work. The dust collector filter worked fairly well as I would have to empty it about every half hour or so. My main issue is the vibration which really didn't seem too bad at first but left my hand and arm tingling to the point of discomfort after just the first day. If the Bosch is so much lower in vibration but also has about half the removal rate of the others I'm curious if it really would be better to use if the work also takes twice as long? Perhaps that's the tradeoff to avoid such problems? Fine for homeowners working for 'free' like myself!
@ToolMetrix
@ToolMetrix 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Morry, tough decision. With your arm discomfort I think it would be worth trying a lower vibration unit like the Bosch, but yeah, that slower performance really adds up over the course of a full day.

You need to try the Bosch ROS20VS, so much more power and still the low vibration . I've used it before for extended time periods and have never had hand fatigue.
@ToolMetrix
@ToolMetrix 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your suggestion, Keith. It’s interesting that it has so much more power as both motors have the same amp rating at 2.5. My assumption is that the difference is primarily the variable speed option. I do like variable speed and I like to slow down the speed when sanding small items. I have a ROS65VC which is one of my main sanders. That’s powerful and very smooth as well.

I usually buy dewalt, and have one that needs a new pad. But getting older I like the Bosh for lower vibration, my question is can you make up for speed of removal by lowering the grit, starting with something more aggressive when faster removal is needed, then the only difference is one more sanding pass at the lower grit, being that the higher grits would be the same more or less? With less fatigue maybe I won’t mind sanding for a few more minutes? I’m gonna buy the Bosh and a replacement pad for my Dewalt, and compare. Hopefully I remember to update this post and let you know!

I had a Black & Decker. Looks to be the same as this one and it lasted for years with medium use. It just died on me and wouldn't remove any material and bogged down with any pressure at all. It was at least 10 years old. I would have picked one of the faster ones as best and sacrificed smoothness. Makes more sense to me to get the wood removed and done with unless you got time and really enjoy sanding.

Dust management is so critical, especially to the life of the machine. Sealed bearings don't mean anything when the rotor and brushes get clogged full of a bunch of dust and gunk. Easy attachment to a shop vac seems like such a no-brainer that not having it make me not even want to consider them.

My Dewalt is loud and a little klunky. I have to change the paper after small surface area or it goes nowhere. Also, on its second project, the face of the hook and loop pad came off. I’d like the option to use any type of paper. But, No, I glued the pad back on. Getting ready to go see if it’ll hold. It’s just ok. Oh , btw, the little dust bag is garbage. Barely works. I’m a little annoyed I have to go buy the connector. I’m surprised I’m not happier with this. I bought the tiny but mighty 20V Atomic impact drill and I love it. So does my brother. Thanks for the review, Paul. I've had a 5" Festool for probably 15 years. Occasionally it jumps around a lot and I'm thinking of replacing it. Still undecided, but your review is helpful. What specifically made you pick the Bosch over the Makati?
@ToolMetrix
@ToolMetrix 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, you will have a hard time going from Festool to any of these. I wonder if it could be repaired? If you want to get a new one, I'd suggest Mirka. I love mine (come on down and give it a try). Or a new Festool. It was a very close call for me, Bosch vs. Makita. I leaned toward Bosch simply because of the smooth operation, while others would have likely picked Makita when considering the same test results. It feels more like you are running a Festool. The Makita removes stock at a rate that is probably more similar to your Festool, and is a great tool overall. A great performer in every respect, within its class.

@@josephromero1596 kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3O2gJSkbKlkhdk this video illustrates what they remove, how well they remove, and if it has any feathering around the outside and inner circle and to what degree. 6inch tool will usually have a longer "throw" so removes more edge to edge, good for large coverage, 5in is slighty less efficient so you need to overlap your passes a bit more. Skip to 13min40 seconds and you'll see for yourself. If you are sanding often you should probably get both a 5 and a 6 inch

Look for something called an 'interface pad', or a 'backer pad'. That's a separate foam rubber disc with hook and loop on each side. You use it between the tool and the sanding discs to help avoid damage to the tool's H&L. When it gets worn, you replace it for a much lower cost than trying to buy a new replacement pad for the tool.
