I would like there to not be any more new battery platforms invented for a good long while, unless they are some kind of brand neutral open standard. It's mostly all TTI, they're very good at what they do, adding any more lines just reduces the odds that any new tool you want is on whatever platform you use. Now if there was a neutral standard in the same way that WiFi and USB are standards, and it actually got support to end this fragmented battery thing once and for all, that would be cool.

Here's my humble opinion that exactly nobody has asked for: 1. Gen5x: The Gen5x tools were very good for their time. Switching from the older 14.4 NiMH batteries in their older tools to using Li-Ion was a genuinely positive step forward for me. 2. Octane: On the whole, these were very, VERY good... and were priced appropriately. Although some of the tools were a little on the large side, the ones I've used are quite powerful. Arguably, the Octane 9Ah and 6Ah maybe should've gotten 21700 cells. The 3Ah had those cells, and was a very nice balance of power delivery and weight. But the Bluetooth battery features were pretty much useless (at least for me). RIP, Octane era! 3. The current stuff....? Ehhhh ... 👀 ... The jury is out, but I do think this latest head-to-head is a good sign, regarding performance of the tools themselves. Not real happy about the deleted features like the dedicated handle light-switches, but it is what it is. I'm not so sure about those batteries, though. Time will tell.

Being in the Ridgid line I hope the best for the future of these products. But if you go check torque test channel you can see the 3ah octane battery outperform a new 4ah max output on the 1/2 inch High torque impact wrench. The octane providing 791 lb-ft and the max output sitting at 756 lb-ft. (The tool itself being a monster). That being said the new 8ah max output is supposed to have 21700 cells. So hopefully they will be an upgrade in performance.
@lesswatt3 жыл бұрын
I don't think Ridgid had any choice on removing the Octane batteries they were sued by Milwaukee over the Octane batteries. If it all seems weird it is because Ridgid you see being made at the TTI factory, but they are owned by Emerson not TTI. That factory is the same one that makes Ryobi as far as I know which is owned by TTI. Milwaukee is owned by TTI but engineering development is at a location near Milwaukee as far as I know. So there may have been issues with the Bluetooth on the Octane batteries but from what I read Milwaukee sued so they had to work around the patents. So afterwards Ridgid gets stuck with less powerful tech it seems on the batteries. It seems likes it's just two more connectors to sense and feed more power.
@jacksmith23153 жыл бұрын
The 3ah octane has 21700 cells as well. Prob why it outperforms the max output 4ah. That beind said, it was very stupid for ridgid to drop the octane line. I know they had issues with the bluetooth, so they should have just went away with the bluetooth but kept everything else the same. Octane was their best line of tools and batteries. Very stupid they dropped it. The steathforce didnt last long either. Not sure if it was any good or not. They just cant seem to stick with something for more than a couple years, if that. Jobmax was great too. Another thing that was stupid to discontinue. Im in the ridgid line, but im going to be switching out when i have to replace or buy new tools. Sucks cause i like pretty much all their tools except drills and recips, always have problems with those two. I just dont feel confident in the future of the company to stick with them. Ill prob switch to makita or metabo htp.
@lesswatt3 жыл бұрын
Milwaukee started sending legal notices some time after Octane batteries came out that Ridgid was infringing on battery technology patents and then they sued Milwaukee. I'm sure this had more to do with dropping Octane batteries than the Bluetooth issue but I maybe wrong.
@jacksmith23153 жыл бұрын
@@lesswatt milwaukee prob sued ridgid because ridgid wasnt paying for the rights to make the batteries. Anyone that make lithium ion battery packs has to pay milwaukee. Ridgid made batteries after octane, so they could have still made octane batteries wo the bluetooth.

I own only the 7 1/4 miter saw and I love what it is and how it performs. To be it is the best bang for the buck out there if you’re not married to tools. If they were to impress me is to drop many tools for a trade like Milwaukee. For instance I think one of the best things they could do given the power of their 6 1/2 saw is to have a framing saw like a blade left worm style saw that is battery. Seems like a reasonable move when I think they could make all matters of battery powered nailers with guides/rulers and lights from metal connectors or roofing. Make rough framers happy. I am a Home Depot shopper and most people in there especially California is adding on things that need studs, joists, and rafters. Make framing great again!!!

I’m a woodworker and I wish Ridgid had two cordless tools that are glaringly missing from their line up. A 23Ga pin nailer and a stapler. Especially the stapler which is is obviously a more universal tool that Milwaukee already has developed. There is one tool by Ridgid that is super useful but needs design improvement and that’s their palm router. Jonathan Katz Moses covered the issues in his palm router video and basically the router doesn’t stand up to other products in this category.

Being a ridgid guy,(but not rigid regarding other platforms), I'm very interested to see what's new from ridgid. I'm waiting to see what's new, before I commit to any new purchases.

They have more coming bro

What you failed to do when switching saws was the saws needed to switch ends of the board also!

ove ridgid great video. But leave philly out of it haha. My now i am second guessing buying the the older one handed sawzall thats on its way. But i have the brushed 6 1/2" saw and i love it. With the 4ah battery its kicks ass. Keep up the videos. When is the one handed sawzall coming out and should i return the one on its way now?
@ToolReviewZone3 жыл бұрын
What's up Paul! I have the octane as well, and it's not a bad saw. I would probably keep it to be honest as it works good. I believe this version comes out in December if I remember correctly

@@ToolReviewZone Thank you. Just going to be cuting small trees up to burn. Its on sale with a 4ah battery for $132. Keep the videos coming. Great job

The Octane brushless planer, brushless/cordless propane heater, and hand held inflator are really good tools and better than the others in industry Rigid doesn't do everything well but they do have some good tools Metabo HPT is my latest go to over the last few years replacing some.of my Makita and Milwaukee tools

LOL I knew Vince had done some major editing on his video to show only the good parts. I am a fan of the Rigid line. Can’t beat their vacs.

Does Rigid make an air pump to pump up tires?
@ToolReviewZone3 жыл бұрын
Not in their lineup now I don't believe. Ryobi makes one, but that doesn't help someone in the RIDGID line I suppose
@tomwinkle55363 жыл бұрын
@@ToolReviewZone thanks, I got rid of ryobi stuff years ago. I got tired of wiggling batteries around to get them to charge.

I wonder when any of the power tool lines will come out with a battery powered car jump starter 😏
@jeffwoodruff45682 жыл бұрын
Hoping rigid will see this. I am a homeowner and Ryobi user. I recently had issues with Ryobi batteries so I decided to make a switch to Rigid even replacing tools that were nearly new from Ryobi rather thsn mess with two battery types. Huge part of my decision was the lifetime service on tools and batteries!!! and that the oerformance is very good. The only down side is that the tool line is much narrower. I'd like to see an 18v air compressor, power washer, and other useful tools. My wife and I bought an rv so cordless tools are essential to maintain it while on the move. MORE TOOLS PLEASE!!!!!

I wish they'd come out with more innovative products like Ryobi. Like the mini belt sander, and so many other unique tools no one else offers. A quality cordless great gun would be really convenient but the current Ryobi one doesn't cut it.
@ToolReviewZone3 жыл бұрын
I think they will be coming out with them down the road. Seems like they are trying to get readjusted, but definitely see those tools being put on the list 👊

Looking forward to an 18 Gauge Brad STAPLER. The air powered units do both nails and staples. Wish the Battery powered units would do both as well.

The demo’s were great. If you are saying you are impressed, I believe it! Looks like they were running the Milwaukee Ax blades on the reciprocating saws. Awesome video, hilarious! 🤣

I mean flip that board around and see who cuts faster it’s definitely tougher to cut on the left Vinces right. So that test wasn’t to fair, but those tools look great might get a couple of them myself.

Ridgid should update their 12v drill, add modes to the 12v impact, make a 12 volt dremel style rotary tool, make a battery operated table saw, battery operated miter saw. thank you.
