I like any kind of micarta, including burlap. But I have to say, out of all the knife companies I think GEC does their burlap micarta the best. Thanks for the look at this awesome Tidioute!

One of my favorite GEC patterns. Wasn't wild about the spearpoint at first, but like the burlap micarta for you, it's grown on me.

Ive always liked the gec spears, but i do feel like this one is not as fat as the 85 or the 78... either way i think a spear blade is a good jack of all trades blade. Thanks for stopping by bud.

Great video thanks. Great knives. Like the coping blade over the pen if the main blade is a spear point great combination. I also like a main blade wharnecliffe and a small pen blade combo also. I have the GEC Huckleberry Boy's Knife & Dixie Stockman that has main clip point, wharnecliffe and drop point with natural canvas micarta covers. Plus a GEC #62🔪F&F Pocket Carver. I love them all and they are great knives.

I've had a couple boys knives (great pattern!) and I have always wanted a dixie stockman....Im watching one on ebay at the moment. That pocket carver looks good as well but I haven't been able to find one at a price I can live with yet.. Thanks for the comment and I am glad you liked my video!

I like it too, but from the comments it looks like a lot of people arent sold on the blade combo. I happen to like it though, and although my first choice would be the Talon on the table, the spear and the coping is also a good setup imo.

Good video again Joe. I also own this SFO and I has become my daily driver, so I bought it in OD Green Micarta also, and those two brothers rock! I like the “worn” look they get, the other 92 I have, in Camel bone is way too shiny, learned the hard/expensive way that Northfields is not for me. BTW I just received the Robert Klaas Cokebottle you made a video of, and that knife might take the throne, we’ll see. Happy New Year from Denmark

Got both the 74 mustang and 47 Viper in brown micarta and...unlike myself...it just keeps getting better looking with age. Like a fine patina...the more I use the knives the deeper the color and character of the micarta becomes. It’s a cover material that screams ‘get me out of the safe and USE me!’

Very nice! Tidioutes in micarta make easy daily users. My #92 (I have a rule of only one knife per pattern otherwise I'd end up penniless) is the Northfield Goldenrod Camel Bone version, only carried occasionally as a piece of pocket jewellery!

I like GEC knives and the other ones included they make too. The issue is; they are much harder to collect and finding ones you like is even worse. I have tried to find ones reviewed by you and others. As of this moment; I never found a single one for sale you or anyone else reviewed. However; if you review one made by Case I can find them and they are still priced at retail prices or even lower. All the GEC models you do find have inflated prices over retail; I guess; you either buy them at inflated prices or don’t buy them. I gave up looking for GEC knives; if I find one by accident I like; I will buy it; that is about what I think of GEC pocket knives. You can say what you want about Case knives; but if you are not happy with what you get; just return it to get it fixed. It might be hard to do from Germany; so I see that point. So in Germany do what Germans do; and buy Boker. I live in Pennsylvania and buy Case; I might like GEC; but everyone buys them before I can. You live Germany and have boxes of GEC knives; that makes me laugh.
@MesserHQ3 жыл бұрын
yeah thats just the nature of the beast, they are expensive but they also continue to increase in value so I find them to be good investment pieces. As far as the availability, I'll have to disagree. On ebay alone, two Fremont jacks sold last month and I had a look today and there are several 92's 78's 15's and other popular frames on ebay as I am typing this. There are also instagram sales, facebook, slipjoint group sales, web forums ect... the knives are out there its just a question of how much time and effort you personally want to put into hunting these things down.... Also living in Pennsylvania, you could for sure make it to the GEC Rendezvous. There they have a ton of slipjoint collectors selling very rare pieces as well as the Rendezvous knife they put out and the parts knives they make every year. I've been dying to go and after corona Ill try to make it to the next one my self. I know its not for everyone but the thrill of the hunt is what keeps me coming back! Thanks as always for your comments, I look forward to them every video!
@gizmocarr30933 жыл бұрын
@@MesserHQ I agree with what you say and there are available ones just in much fewer quantities. The reason they hold their value might be important for profit seekers intent on turning a dollar. Few knife collectors get rich collecting pocket knives. The ones who are left the knife collectors collection after they pass away make the real windfall. I have lots of knives and never sold one. I have given some to others for one reason or another. GEC knives are like Mercedes to me I like looking at them but never thought buying one was worth the money.

I really like the Burlap Micarta. There's a nice depth to it, like on some wood types on guitars like buckeye Burl, quilted maple and all that. But the knife itself just isn't for me. I wanted a gec so bad, I didn't really thought it through 😆🤷♂️. But if you like it man, that's awesome 💪. I'd like to get my hands on the moss green one you got, a tc Barlow or a Freemont jack. The last one would be my absolute favorite. But I really really would like to get my hands on several different models to feel and see in person. So I could could tell which ones for me or not. Man I hope corona is over soon so the knife shops open up again.
