I saw a couple videos with the HTP in bare gel. I can't remember the calibers. With no clothing barrier and they did well. This is why testing with clothing is a must. Some bullet designs require the shooter to ask the criminal to disrobe before shooting them.

The 155 gr 40sw htp used to be a premium defensive round that was really popular with law enforcement. I’m pretty sure border patrol carried it for many years and it was known as a real man stopper. But once upon a time you could count on getting around 1250fps from a 4” barrel. It’s a shame they can’t give people what they pay for and load this stuff properly. Even then I’m not sure another 100 fps would have gotten them to expand . I have several boxes of this stuff got it really cheap from a store going out of business. Now I know to just shoot it in the dirt because it’s junk. I’d say the 180s aren’t much better. Either way I appreciate the quality entertainment!

I would have to look up my notes but speed probably 1250 to 1300 fps.the 125gr htp expanded to 1/2in retained 124.4 gr. now I recently did a study on 40sw and 10mm it's disgusting. 10mm so watered down that unless buying buffalo bore, double tap, underwood or from equal companies it's not much more than 40 sw. and just as well off to buy 40 sw than pay those big prices or don't reload. I've been thinking about getting a 40 sw.a lady gave me 1861cases her late husband had .so I guess she made up my mind for me. papa wishing you well 😊

Great review! Maybe you should send a copy of this video to Remington like you did to Sierra cartridges ( That video performed the same as these cartridges, no expansion yet, they (Sierra cartridges) informed you they would correct the problem ) and maybe Remington may "correct" the lack of expansion issue. After all, Sierra Cartridge to their credit did give you a free box of cartridges with better expanding Sierra bullets that you followed up on by testing the new cartridges which performed much better then the previous Sierra cartridges you tested which "failed" to expand . Maybe Remington will correct this issue...maybe....

Disappointing for sure. Years ago the 165 Golden Sabre was an option I looked at when I picked up my first 40 in the late 90s. I tested it and the Win Silvertip 155 and a Federal HiShok(180?). All 3 had less than consistent performance in a variety of media. The Golden Saber looked great when it performed but typically separated from jacket. I ended up handloading a 155 XTP that always performed. Is it the low velocity or the denim that is the biggest obstacle for performance? Thank you for testing 40.

I guess it's maybe the denim/cloth because of the lower velocity. So a combo of both I would assume. Maybe sprinkled with a little dated bullet design. Seems like the tests I've done with different Golden Sabre calibers had a decent amount of jacket separation too.
