Of the three options, I hold with the Grizzly. I've shot both their 200gr and 180gr loadings and they're nearly perfect. They produce a devastating wound channel and just the right depth of penetration. Plus, Grizzly does free shipping.

Amazing since none of these bullets were originally designed for the 10mm. That is why I like the heavy for caliber Hornady 147gr 357 Sig round as the Hornady bullet was designed for the 357 Sig caliber from the beginning and offers great performance.

Gerandhumb just did a gel dummy test with the 135grain jhp from underwood and also looked amazing. Had a chance to check it out? If you have what are your thoughts. I was also leaning toward these types of weights in 10mm.

But if you can get a 200gr going 1500 then by far that's probably the best 10mm loading. But I really like the 165gr and 155gr loads. Seems like best of both worlds. 10mm is just amazing for a semi auto gub

Hoping to see him test the 10MM AUTO 115GR. XTREME DEFENDER PLATINUM EDITION and the 10MM AUTO 150GR. XTREME HUNTER PLATINUM EDITION SOLID MONOLITHIC HUNTING & SELF DEFENSE AMMO perform from the short barrel. Then compare those results to the same two ammo types from the G20. I have a feeling one or both might prove to be the most reliable and powerful in the short barrel, plus be the barrier blind. Same with the UW XD in 135grain in 45acp. That might prove to be the best overall performance from a short barrel like the G30/G30s, as well as the G21 length barrel.

Good choices, Brian! My EDC is also the Glock 29, although my carry ammo is the 100 gr. Xtreme Defender, which is actually pleasant to shoot out of the 29. I like your holsters as well, mine is the Alien Gear Shape Shift, which is very comfortable rig for all day carry, and seems very similar to your choice. Back to ammo, I get an average of 1688 out of my G29 so I'm perfectly happy with it. Recoil is mild and while they are loud, there is minimal muzzel flash. Bottom line is, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them! The 10mm gives me a lot more confidence than any 9mm! Cheers, jc8

Underwood's 165gr GoldDot was my favorite until it was discontinued. Currently, their 115gr Extreme Defenders is my goto! It appears that Hornady's 155/165 XTP loadings are "almost" as good as Underwood's version.

The XTP bullets are great bullets. I have used them for handgun hunting for many years. I have used the 180grains in 357 Magnum and the 200 grains in 10mm and they both do a great job. Quick kills and great penetration.

@@ToolsandTargets And maybe some wise manufacturers (HST) will finally listen and improve their products! I think we all would love to see at least a second option of HST 10mm moving the proper velocity. They got the 200 grain right, they just don’t produce the ft lbs expected from 10mm. Even without any redesign of the projectile, my bet is that the increased velocity to at least the standard 1250 from a common roughly 4.5 inch barrel would still yield the high end penetration yet even greater expansion and wound channel! That slight increase in speed would make the block jump the way it should when hit by defense grade 10mm. That would make the HST the king of 10mm JHP carry ammo. Keep up the rants until they wake up and give us a proper product 👊🏽

They’re all very great, but I chose the Sig V Crown for the little extra penetration. 100% I chose underwood 200Gr lipsticks for animals. In Montana we have grizzlies and you do NOT want hollow points in that situation. Thanks for sharing Tools. As a 10mm carrier you’ve done me a great service. God bless you sir!

All three rounds you tested have some SERIOUS butt-whuppin’ power- so impressed with all of them especially out of that 3.8 inch model 29. I’m definitely biased, but I’d make the argument to anyone that the Glock 29 is the “ultimate carry piece.” As long as a person can handle recoil and put rounds on target, there ain’t NOTHING you have to worry about if you’re carrying a G 29 loaded with some of this good stout ammo

Good video good test. 10mm is a good choice for all around and having one round for carry makes sense too. Something I’ve noticed recently (and I do it as well) is to criticize the 10mm rounds that are down loaded but never even think twice about how every commonly available round is the same way. For example there are few if any people complaining about modern 9mm not being loaded to original specs, or .357 to original, or .44mag, or 45acp or .380 or anything else. Most of the common offerings from all of rounds are below their orig spec. It’s curious how this only bothers people with 10mm and nothing else. Just something I’ve realized recently 🤷‍♂️

For me it's the fact that 10mm is supposed to be "extra" compared to it's smaller semi-auto cousins. I expect 9mm, .45acp, .380, etc to be weak in general.

After watching a number of gel tests of defensive 10mm, I stocked up on the 155 grain Underwood XTPs as my primary defensive ammo in 10mm. I additionally bought three boxes of 135 grain Underwood Noslers in 10mm. Their penetration leaves something to be desired, but the energy-dump damage-channel is impressive. My next defensive 10mm ammo purchase will be to stock up on 100 grain Underwood Xtreme Defenders in 10mm. They approach rifle-like velocities out of a 5.6-inch barrel, the barrel length of my S&W M&P 2.0 Performance Center 10mm. Generally, I tend to prefer my defensive ammo light and fast: energy transfer tends to be explosive; damage channel tends to be impressive; if a hollow point, reliable expansion velocities are a non-issue and expansion tends to be maximized; and penetration is usually adequate with risk of over-penetration minimized. Heavier grain ammo I think of as more suitable for hunting.

I have had a fair amount of experience deer hunting with XTPs in 44 cal, out of 44mag (handgun and rifle) and 444 Marlin. They are tough bullets and expand very well. I have not taken a deer with my 10mm yet, but given my other experience, my first choice would be an XTP.

Accuracy and feed reliability is another consideration. XTP bullets have an excellent feed profile. The 155gr Underwood will weigh less on your belt for carry, and features nickel plated brass cases. I'd personally go with the Underwood for CC in urban locations

Great video. I have carried the Underwood 155 for years now. You need to try out the Kenai chest holster. You can carry the Glock 20 or 40 all day and don’t even know it’s there. You do have to wear a cover garment.

Imo some fragmentation is good. The wound channel always seems better. The Buffalo bore seems to like the G20 better as far as wound channel. Not impressed with a straight narrow wound channel. The Grizzly looked good. Underwood would be excellent from G20 if we get 1500 FPS. I gotta tell you, velocity is where it’s at for me. Seems like a 150ish grain north of 1500 FPS is the best.

You could even throw in a 30 super carry if you want but I honestly think 30 super carry is junk. You might have to use a couple of different blocks of jelly but I think it would be a good comparison video and probably stir up a lot of chatter in the comments from the various caliber fan boys! Heck even do it with the top EDC revolver cartridges too! Take it easy tools.

Thank you for this one, Tools. VERY useful info. I noticed the Hogue grip sleeve on your P365. I got the same for mine a year ago. One day I tried a minor, but permanent mod, and it improved my grip and position of my hand. I took a sharp knife to the top of it all the way around it, coming down to about 1/8" below the top of the texture on the back-strap. This lowered the axis of the bore in relation to my hand and just feels better. Your mileage may vary, but I like what it did for me. Thank you for all your helpful videos! 🤠👍

That 155 Underwood is my 'in the grip' load. Absolutely no nonsense round. I picked up a few cases of it along with a few boxes of their hardcast. Never tried the other two. Or Muddy River holsters. For my S&W 610-2 (4”) barrel, I believe either the BB 180 grain HP or the 200 grain Grizzly HP. If they over penetrate, oh well, two holes bleed better than one. Just sayin’.

Maybe you could test using a S&W Model 610 revolver. Besides getting to see more 10mm, it would be interesting to see if there was much of a velocity loss from gases escaping from the cylinder/forcing cone area.

Grizzly Ammo contains 8.5 of Longshot with 200gr Hardcast still not max at 8.8 LS with 200gr Grizzly the best Hardcast at 21 BHN and loaded the best of the 3. Full power load from Grizzly.

I have some Defender Ammo, a veteran owned ammo company, ammunition on order to try out. Trying 380APC, 9mm, 40cal and 10mm to see how it runs. The reviews I have seen on this ammo looks promising. You need to get a 10mm in a 5" 1911. There are alot of people who have them. Usually you will get quite a bit more velocity, which is the name of the game in the 10mm. If you like higher velocity to get the best bullet performance, i.e., 1250-1300 fps, you will have a better chance to achieve that in a 5" barrel. But sometimes you don't want more velocity than the bullet was designed for.

Hey Tools! Can you test the 10mm Grizzly 200 gr. Hard cast load? I carry that in my Glock 20 here in Idaho in case of any unruly bear or if I catch a Cougar stalking me. I have done some tests and it seems to really perform well but would love to see it put to the jelly contraption !! Keep up the awesome work, sir ! Love your videos

I believe these 3 loads are THE ones to carry in 10mm. I carry UW 155g in short barreled guns and Grizzly 200g in longer barrels (5-6in). Penetration of XTP bullets impressed me. I wish grizzly would load XTP bullets.

You should get some velocity comparisons coming from a PCC. Even if it's something inexpensive like a Hi-Point carbine. It was interesting to me to find out that most 9 mm actually slows down after 12 inches of barrel length.

So get underwood. Although underwood is lighter. It should cost less due to the grain age. Seems like the best load to bulk up with

I'm 99 5 % more likely to need it against two legged Predators. In my opinion the Underwood with the 155 out preformed the other 2. Higher velocity, highest energy ( even if it was only 2 pounds on the gel test) excellent penetration.

I'd probably prefer the 180 in the 10 mm if I had a 10 mm just based on it's consistent performance with the 200 gr a close 2nd. I like the 165 gr for my 40 s&w.

All of those were great performers. If I had to pick one, I think I would go with the grizzly. It’s just 9 ftlb slower but is a 200gr compared to the 155gr underwood. Granted, it didn’t penetrate much as the others but those rounds would hit hard.

Underwood 115gr XDs for my EDC... but I'd feel more than confident carrying any one of those three. Thanx again Tools 💯🍻

I haven't been a 10mm 20:55 fan, but 6 months or so. I picked up a Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 10mm right after I found this channel, and it made a believer out of me ! T&T is the only one I watch on a regular basis, and your 10mm testing gave me the 10mm {Fever}!! Thanks so much for your part in keeping us updated on the best 10mm loads on the market.. I check to see if you have a new video uploaded 2-3 times a day. I just picked up 6 boxes of the Underwood 155gr XTP-HP load, I've only been able to pick up 2 boxes of the Underwood 180gr XTP-HP because it stays sold out most of the time! Personally I really like the 155gr Underwood load. Can't argue with almost 800fpe. Has to be a devastating load but so were the other two loads. Not a easy choice because the others did such a outstanding job as well..
