It goes just briefly over everything to keep it relatively short (editing 11 hours to 30 minutes is insane lol) so keep in mind that many cool moments and details might be missing. Well thats for a newbie discovering the game from nothing. 120 star wr is 1:36:21 and its pretty easy to get 2.5 hours. Dont forget that Im not saying this to underestimate this achievment. The mental and physical barrier is so crazy its unimaginable

I don't know what the official verdict of where this falls in gaming achievements. Compared to say speed runs, world record scores etc... I can only offer my feelings on this as an outsider looking in as someone who is not part of any of these hardcore communities. For me, this is the single most impressive achievment in video gaming history. That's my personal opinion.

I watched this live from about THI to the end and was so excited to see it happen! I’ve always assumed that blindfolded Mario speedrunners are dead silent for entire runs, never losing an ounce of focus and maintaining completely composure. Then I saw how much Bubzia pops off and loses his god damn mind during the single most intense SM64 blindfolded run.

Especially since I started streaming all my practice etc. to twitch too and gained an reasonable sized audience on Twitch, I started talking more and more during runs. This is an incredible achievement, congrats on shattering history! Small question that I'm left wondering.. How the heck do you practice the lock cam setups? I can imagine how normal setups would be easy to practice by doing them semi-blind i.e. looking at the screen periodically to keep yourself on track until you're more comfortable with the inputs to do it fully blind. I can't even fathom how you would get consistent at a lock cam strat though given you can't see what mario is actually doing most of the time when you're trying to route it out.

Thank you! Haha good question, the lock cam setups are mostly a lot of trial and error. I usually practice fully visual but doing 'blindfolded' setups, and for lock cam, most strats start with an idea like: hmm I need a BIT of a different cam angle at this corner. And then you start messing with lock com here and there until something is found. Routing the way to said corner is then not so tricky if you know the layout well 😁

It certainly made me quite tired, but the fact that I got most of the difficult stars first try that could otherwise easy take 1-2 hours themselves made me bear this much better.

Thank you! Yes, it is a technique called pausebuffering: Basically you can e.g. hold neutral on the analog stick, pause, then hold the stick into the upright notch, unpause. This will always make you start the run animation at full speed and it removes the inbetween state of the analog stick from neutral to the notch.

Amazing recap! It really gives an idea of the 120 grind and how amazing the final run was! Still, as you mentioned in the pinned comment, even with 30 minutes at your disposal many funny moments are missing, otherwise this video would have been 11 hours long (we can safely say that blindfolded runs as a whole are funny "moments" 😂), but the best one are the four sure! Also, very well planned final part of the video, all the grind with that big grand finale, even if I already knew what was coming it gave me goosebumps! Awesome run! How many times did you have to quit a full run due to not being able to get past a specific star?

I did a total of 3 full run attempts. Both previous ones died to mostly exhaustion and difficulties with a particular star. So actually, not that many, its just time wise not a category you can attempt everyday as it is way too long^^

For the memorization alone, mostly just practice. If you had to estimate how many hours of practice this took, what would you put the time at?

Just for this run, I calculated around 800-1000 hours I think (from just looking of how much I streamed since I started the practice for this in March 2021 + some offline practice here and there). Before that I spend countless of hours doing other blindfolded speedruns though, both in SM64 and many other games, so I already was very established with all the techniques needed and the game.
