Whenever I play war of the ring I take a picture of the board every 3 rounds or so. It's awesome to then see how the armies moved, how much the ringbearers moved and where a lot of units were MUSTARD. It's awesome to look back at it when you finish the game

Just had an fantastic WotR game with the wife yesterday with me as the shadow. Epic battle for Minas Tirith on round two between Aragorn and Mordor, she played the card that makes me hit myself on 1's in the combat roll and then proceeded to roll 4 hits from Aragorn's blade storm while I rolled 3 1's killing my own men from the chaos that ensued. This put me in a bad position from the start with Gondor activated and winning the early game war. I took the northern Elven kingdoms and eventually Pelagir and Dol Amroth with my eastern-lings while continuing to batter Minas Tirith with Mordor forces holding Aragorn in place with his armies of men. Rohan slept through the game while Orthanc only supported Angmar and Mount Gundabad. I ended up coming back at the end with a key Shelob's Lair hunt draw stopping her from moving onto Mount Doom and succumbing to corruption on her next move attempt. Just a amazing game and deserving of all the praise it gets.

I too, am mostly a solo or two player gamer. I appreciate the list. I do have Patchwork [Americana], Targi, and Beer and Bread, and would like to have Caper Europe. Fun tip for Patchwork: buy color coordinated buttons in two sizes, [you can get them pretty cheap] to make game play more thematic. Thanks guys!👍👍

I’m a huge fan of two player dueling card games. Android Netrunner being my favorite game of all time, but now things like Summoner Wars and Radlands. The new game Worldbreakers is so good too, can’t suggest that highly enough.

Whenever someone talks about Baseball Highlights, it reminds me of an old NES game called Base Wars, which had a similar theme. Your robot players would fight to settle force plays. Fun times.

We love Jaipur, 1960: The Making of the President, and recently stumbled upon the old 3M bookshelf card game Mr. President. Star Wars Rebellion is fun, but is really hard to get to the table as it is a bit much (rules and time wise, now that we're parents)

Great list. My favourite right now is Beer and Bread. My list would have also included Star Realms, Odin's Ravens, Splendour Duel. I had forgotten that there is an expansion to Targi - will definitely check that out so thanks for mentioning it! My wife and I actually started into the hobby with 3 Kosmos 2 player only games,: Caesar and Cleopatra, Sakkara, and Das Riff, and we still play a lot of games at 2. I have not played your top 2 games. We are usually not interested in games where you play a side, you don't want to represent, like in War of the Rings (we did not like Star Wars Rebellion for the reason). But will certainly try Fields of Arles.

Highly suggest trying Gosu X out. It's a deck builder with different factions and abilities. Also, you should try Yokai Sketch which is a pseudo set collection tug of war game

War of the Ring is SO good. Curious how the painted minis have held up and if you have any tips ...I've heard that the plastic being so soft causes issues (minis get sticky).

Claim Pocket, which comes in a really small tin box, is the best 2p travel game ever. I love Claim, and like to think of the theme as an (american) election, where you don't win by getting the most votes, but with the majority of right kind of voters 😉.

If you like 2 player Euro style games, then you HAVE to check out “Pagan: Fate of Roanoke”. Many compare it to Netrunner but it has worker placement elements on top. With great theme & art work on top. If you have played it already I would be really keen to get your views on it!

No Jaipur, 7 wonders duals, or El Dorado is wild. I find the more complex games work way better with more players. It needs to be under 30min if just 2 players.

I thought you guys were kidding about not having Twilight Struggle on the list. An incredible 2-player. Targi is my favorite. It has a lot of depth in a little box, and we enjoy that player interaction that's so lacking in games these days. Even if it can be a little mean at times, that adds to the tension, and we're nearly always satisfied by what we were able to accomplish. I disagree about the expansion, though, but that's coming from someone who generally dislikes expansions. It complicates an already perfect game. War of the Ring is incredible, but so hard to get to the table. I hope my partner and I can play it this autumn, where it belongs. :) And a shout-out to Star Realms, even just the base game, which is quite fun for such a tiny box, with a ton of replayability.

Avoid games by eagle gryphon. They have terrible customer service. I bought highlights and a few expansions but the cards were different sizes so you can tell if expansion cards are on top besides being really hard to shuffle. When I explained the situation I was told tough luck. Lovely.

Maybe you could solve the problem with sleeves which don't have a clear background. Then they have the same size. I know its not optimal but could help for this issue
