I love that with most visual kei or j-rock bands with male singers you can hear that they have taken inspiration from Hyde from L'arc En Ciel. That's the incredible influence of Hyde. He is one of if not the most important rock artist from Japan.

Edit years later: I take back what I said. I was uneducated. Hyde is still extremely powerful and influential. He has made a massive impact on my vocal style and music taste. But after Atsushi Sakurai's recent passing, I must now admit that many visual kei singers got their sound from Atushi. His voice transcends time. He is more than human. His voice is something religious, something spiritual beyond our comprehension. His haunting tone will carry on past his death, for generations.

Vaya, tu sí sabes; personalmente pondría Toshi en primer lugar por ser vocalista de mi banda favorita, junto a Malice Mizer. en la era de Klaha. (y también su carrera solista). Aunque últimamente ando siguiendo la música de Atsushi Sakurai, que sin tener un rango alto de voz, probablemente tenga mayor versatilidad al cantar géneros distintos y un gran talento para escribir letras.

La verdad es que Sakurai tiene un rango extraordinario. Eso ni se discute. Su capacidad para cantar pop ock,punk, new wave,rock industrial electrónico, gótico, dance y especialmente baladas mas aún las escritas por Hide (JUPITER Misshitsu Miu Manjusaka) lo demuestran. Me gustaron mucho los acapellas de Hyde y Klaha. Muchas gracias por subirlo.

Aw, these do not receive nearly enough views, they are great (: I'm very happy to see Cosmos as #1, but I must say I was very impressed with the Matenrou Opera one. I'm not in touch with newer j-rock bands (newer as in anything post Merry really, so MO should count) and was very nicely surprised to see someone sing like that. PS: Would have been great to see Agitated Screams of Maggots here instead of Bugaboo (: Okay, there is some piano in there, so it should technically be "unplugged", really though...

As far as vocal technique goes, ToshI is by far one of the best (if not the best) male vocalists in Japan, at least in Japanese rock/popular music. He's got bad vocal health issues (especially in the chosen clip), but his mix is quite stellar until about C#5, and his technique as a whole is pretty solid. Most other Japanese vocalists tend to sing straight from the throat. lol

i hate to mention this but in my opinion all or some of those performances maybe isnt a full acapella,...since performers have sound monitor from their earpiece so they can actually hear back sound from additional player or anyone and audiances will ever now,..but again it depends on how we describing what an acapella is,... Btw i glad you mention matenrou opera, imho they dont get the recognizition they deserved,...
