For me Adrian has always been an essential essence of Maiden. He was massively missed when he left. You only see that when you hear Brave New World after his absence. A truly great song writer and musician.
@LeandroDelPrete
@LeandroDelPrete 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly my thoughts. From No Prayer from the Dying on, you can see Harris taking over Iron Maiden's musical structure, and songs became a little more crude and simple. Even epic songs like Fear of the Dark and Sign of the Cross were simple and kinda raw. Now if you compare that with Adrian's compositions, you can see big difference.

Couldn’t agree more - Steve really seemed to get “lazy” with his songwriting. I hate to say that, because he can write whatever he wants, but I feel Adrian provided a creative push in the songwriting department. Also, if Adrian hadn’t left they wouldn’t have had to hire Jannick…

Yeah Brave New World for me is probably the biggest come-back album I know of =) Maiden without Adrian is not the same or as good, sure Fear of the dark was a decent album but the rest is not even worth listening to for me, some of the songs from the first album is good too I guess , but for me it really starts with Killers and peaks at Somewhere In Time, what an amazing album , EVERY SONG on that album is awesome. If you have not heard Somewhere In Time in a long time, listen to the whole album in one go, such an amazing album =)

I think the big differences between the 3 player's styles is what makes it work so well. Janick may not be that technical but he bought an energy to the band and helped them through the tricky mid 90's when their career could have petered out.

@@LeandroDelPrete absolutely particularly when you consider that NPFTD is easily the weakest album they did with Bruce. Janick's stage moves still divide opinion but I have no problems. I think he actually energised Dave and Adrian since if you look at them in the 80's they were almost too static. It's a nice story also since Janick was on the verge of packing up being a musician just before he played on Bruce's Tattooed Millionaire solo album and then subsequently got the Maiden gig. Always comes across as down to earth and no rock star ego.

Adrian brought a lot to the table, much more than what he got credit for. He really exploded writing-wise in Somewhere in Time (Wasted Years, Stranger in a Strange Land, Sea of Madness). Also on 7th Son where his collaboration with Bruce peaks. But I suspect there was some friction in this album, coming from Harris, perhaps envious about too much creative input from the others. The story of him messing with Adrian's Can I play with Madness is pretty well known, and I think him leaving the band after this was no coincidence. Real pity because his emotionally rich and intelligent writing perfectly complemented Steve's powerful "macho" approach to music. We love both combined, and for quite a while we got to enjoy it.

Simply the fact that they're live versions means you don't quite know what you're gonna receive, in terms of improvisation and sticking to the original. That alone made it a worthwhile listen. Rock on Tommy!

Before I even listen to em. The second solo after Dave's on 'Somewhere in time " is epic as is the "Powerslave' i think Adrian's leads are more meticulous and arranged better. I mean "Die with your boots on" "even "Killers" are just more well thought out leads. I mean Adrien is more like Tipton as far as not just shredders but beautiful soloist.

Always thought Leppard missed a great opportunity by not giving Adrian the gig after Steve Clarke left us, sure Viv is a great guitarist but Adrian would have added his unbelievable guitar skills with sublime song writing but saying that I was so pleased he rejoined Maiden and went back home

He would certainly be a great replacement for Steve Clarke, but I believe Adrian wanted to do his own thing at that time. Since his projects didn't hit the spotlight (they were pretty good though), he eventually surrendered to good old heavy metal when he joined Bruce.

@@LeandroDelPrete I thought his ASAP project was fantastic and the psycho motel he did was amazing, if Leppard took him on board he would have taken them to another level but he would have outshone Phil Collen on every single riff and solo, but Viv is a better player than Phil in my opinion
