Just to add on, The biggest trap is not realizing how big a decision it is to buy a financed vehicle, or purely deciding based on how affordable an instalment ad sounds. It is very important to start off by looking at one's personal overall budget. Only then will you be able to determine a FIXED amount that you can AFFORD to spend ON A CAR, on a MONTHLY basis (INCLUSIVE of car insurance, monthly contribution towards balloon payment, annual and/or unforeseen maintenance, license disk, and other relevant costs). One also needs to ascertain if the fuel costs are going to be higher than the current commute costs (uber/taxi/rail). If a vehicle instalment leaves a person's budget on a deficit, it can only mean one thing, ..... From this point, it is of paramount importance to set an UPPER LIMIT on your vehicle budget, and be able to stick to it. Anything over the upper limit can only mean one thing, ...... Only then can one start thinking of their preferred models, ....... Its funny how some makes and models will not cross one's mind after having set an upper limit to a budget. It is always a bonus appreciating the following: * a reputable dealership will reduce the chances of you buying GRANDPA everyday, or you looking like your GRANDPA quicker. * a vehicle still on a service plan is always a better option, * there is always a more affordable insurance premium than your first quote. Shop around. * strive to get more value for the likkle money. * there are SCAMS out there. Some deals are too good to be true, & No reputable dealership will rush to ask for a 20% deposit to secure the car. * there are other costs involved (eg. vehicle registration, delivery etc) * one can strike a cost price balance by adjusting the year models. For example, if a model had the most recent facelift in 2018, one can opt for the 2018 model as it will still be the most recent & coolest shape, but at a much lesser cost than the 2022 one. In most instances, the cost saving will by far outweigh the small additional features added annually. * Time Value of Money (TVM) principles state that one will pay more interest if they are to take on a balloon payment payable at the end. I honestly don't understand why one would want to pay 30% of cost price, eg. (30% * R200k = R67K) at the end of the financing term. What guarantee do you have that life will have changed drastically for the better?

I bought my first car in 2016, Ford Fiesta ecoboost automatic for R210 000 brand new, I paid R4100 installment and it's paid off now. It doesn't consume a lot of petrol and it's fast too. I'm still driving it and have been happy with it since the day I bought it. The only negative thing: my service plan was only 3 years, I still service it with Ford and I have never paid more than 2K. It still in good condition and I think I will probably drive it for 2 more years. Side note: when I was looking for a car back in 2016, I went to BMW first, I wanted 1 series with all of my being. I got the shock of my life when I found out how much they cost, I could afford it but I did not want the financial burden. I'm glad I did not let peer pressure get to me and I stayed in my lane.

If I may add my 2 cents, I'd implore customers to find out what cars are typical targets for theft and/or hi-jacking. I watched an interview of a former hi-jacker and he recommended that dealerships should take the time to inform potential customers if their vehicles are known to be in high demand when it comes to hi-jacking and/or theft. Kub' hlungu uku phucwa imoto guys, especially when your life is threatened in the process.

I think I watched the same or a similar video, where he stated that Ford Ranger, VW etc were high risk cars. I even heard that when looking for an insurance company and you drive the 'high risk' cars, then you might have to pay more on insurance. I don't know how true that is though.

@@hlengiwemkhize2016 Second hand Audi A3 please please do a lot of research on the cost of repairing a gearbox if it fails, also do some homework on the oil consumption as the 1.8TFSI has a known problem of oil consumption. The gearbox costs more than R30k to replace, the engine overhaul to fix oil consumption is also around that R30k region. I loved the Audi A3, I spoke to people who owned them. I am not even advising my worst enemy to buy that car. Audi A4 2.0 TDI with manual gearbox is your best option if you want a premium badge, or a 2015 VW Tiguan 2.0TDI with manual gearbox.

My first car was a Hyundai Grand i10 and I would highly recommend. It drives very well (especially for a new driver). Hyundai also has a good maintenance/service plan. It's also not bad on fuel (especially compared to a Ford, kuyafiwa pha!) but VW is still the best in this area. I'm also very fortunate that my job involves buying a lot of cars and we've never gone wrong with a Kia Picanto, so that would be my second option.... Thank you very much for this video.....I always encourage people to do as much research as possible when buying a car.

@@nokwandamaziya1093 Hi, I think this is based on preference and obviously your budget. What I can advise though is to look at all costs associated with having a car and not just instalment. For example, insurance (as much much as this is based on the retail value but some cars cost more to insure than others), how often do you travel (i.e. I travel 80kms a day so it’s advisable for me to hv a car that’s low on fuel consumption and has good service/maintenance plan) etc... I “personally” love Kia Picanto but it’s more on the pricier side compared to the Hyundai Atos. But Hyundai has a 7year/200km warranty which is not common with other brands. Both these brands come standard with nice features for a first car but like I said....preference. A car is one of the biggest purchase you will ever make so please....research, research, research (and test drive the cars if you need to). I hope this helps and all the best 😊

Yoh those sites are unrealistic 🥺😂🤣. They’ll tell you a car is R1 900 not telling you there’s a 30% balloon payment, paid over 7+ years, with a lovely rate. Then by the time you sit down your actual car is far higher than that but you feel like because you’ve sat down and given them details you have to commit. Instead of paying off a car from your salary, Invest your money in a business first then the business will pay off your car. This what I mean, Instead of paying R4000 monthly installments for a car, why not pay R4000 monthly for a bond on your investment property (rental property) thats yields R10,000 per month (5 room at R2,000 each). With that R10,000 you can pay of your Bond and you Car without breaking a sweat.

This is not practical.. theory it could be possible but as a property owner this is not it.. theres maintenance, tenants moving out, not paying on time etc. Property investment is a very slow way to get to your goals and if you want to go into it dont invest in property with the idea of withdrawing from it asap.. property is definitely not a get rich quick system! ❤

What I dislike about the Polo is that it invites s'gebhengus, and with that said, it also limits you to where you can go, what time you should be off the road and all. As someone who has worked in the car space. I’d say , buy a good second hand . People are unreasonably scared of second hands . Ofcourse look out for red flags and avoid, deals that seem to good to be true. But yeah a lot of second hand vws, toyotas very reliable .

Hi Nokuhle Welldone and great advice and sampling of some available cars. My first impression is that cars albeit small are expensive and overpriced. Buying a car it a mammoth task especially for a first timer. There's so much to consider. We at times are irrational when coming to buy cars. We tend not to do a thorough research. Remember whatever decision you eventually take you will have to leave with for atleast 5 years. Cost of owning a car is not just monthly installment, there's insurance, service maintenance cost, fuel cost, licensing cost. Wear and tear e.g. tires wearing costs and contingency cost e.g tire damage due to bad road conditions. It is advisable as a first timer to take someone with experience and knowledge of buying cars, to avoid pitfall of paying unnecessary added cost like ballon/residual, added products and insurances you don't need. Remember these can add sometimes more than R2000 to your monthly payment. Most people want new cars however for a beginner or newer driver, it may be cheaper or advisable to maybe start with say a 1-2 year demo car, especially as you learn how to drive.

I got a Polo Vivo, I love it. It is great on petrol. My interest rate is 10% but was significantly higher with banks other than the one I banked with.

I drive a suzuki baleno (the starlet origin) and it costs cheaper. Atleast 30-40k cheaper than toyota. Top of the range model almost = to the mid range toyota. Think long and hard when deciding toyota or suzuki. Weigh your budget and options.

My first car was a Renault kwid very affordable and you save a lot on petrol however when I got into a car accident I realise that the car is not as reliable had to wait 2 months for them to get parts for the car, after 2 months the car was written off because fixing it costed more than the car itself and the insurance that came with the car was the worst, now I’m driving a 2nd hand Hyundai veloster from “We buy cars” I have to say Hyundai is the way and it’s a good 2nd car

I currently drive a Renault Clio and I’m looking into trading it in for a Polo Tsi, simply because when I got into a crash it took about 3 months to get the parts to fix it. Honestly it drives really well and has great features, but when it comes to after market sales, even the panelbeater advised me to change it because they struggle a lot with renault. Do you mind sharing the process of trading in a financed vehicle? Some difficulties perhaps?

Over time the TSI "usually " becomes a problem. Take something Japanese or Korean, there not as pretty or might not have as many features but they will be trouble free with less theft risk. But if u must have a polo get a polo vivo. Just kind advice

One of the reasons I didn't go for Renault it is because of what you saying, my ex colleague advised me not to go for Renault because he was paying a fortune for his old Renault as if he is driving an expensive BMW/Merc. Apparently their parts are exported hence they expensive and takes time to fix.
