Having owned a model 3 for over 6 months, I can confirm the difference between looking down at your speed vs looking over for your speed is exactly 0% different. You can see the road and the speed the same as if it were in front of you.

The digital speedometer is great for accuracy, but I like the analog speedometer better. You get a better sense of acceleration than you do with climbing numbers. It can't compare to watching how the needle moves for the purpose of maintaining speed. In extreme cases though I think the needle might lag behind under high acceleration, while a digital display would show the correct speed with no lag.

Originally, they said delivery should occur within two weeks from the order date. However, if I ordered the 35k version, the estimated time would have been 2-4 weeks.

Keeps building new models, can't make spare parts. Raising the bar indeed. The tech isn't that new, it just hasn't been practical for the average consumer. Only a niche company has any reason to be in that market. Also that touch screen is just terrible. I prefer having buttons that I can just feel my way around. Not a flat surface that I have to look at. Not to mention the extra interior glow that messes with night driving. Nah, I'll stick with my 03 Toyota tundra. Far more practical, reliable, repairable.

Oh, and everything works fine on my 03 Toyota tundra. 200,000 miles and at least 25,000 of those are from riding dirt roads. I spray the damn thing out with a water hose. During my test drive, the speedometer location was a non issue. It's a quick flick of your eyes just as it's always been, just in a different direction. You adjust in no time at all.

The nice thing that people never seem to mention clearly is that for all the time you are city / town driving you can have the nice wheels showing and then for the less frequent times you are taking longer road trips on the freeway you can pop the wheel covers on and increase your range by 10%. Easy and practical.

HUD would be nice. I've driven the BMW with the HUD and it is very sweet and very good. It is not 100% perfect because in sunlight you get the bright box reflection around it but you tend to ignore it after a while. Pretty impressive though and would be fantastic on a Tesla. One thing he forgot as an amazing hidden feature is the built-in dashcam.

Side note: It’s 10% in comparison to the 19“ wheels. Cover vs no cover on the standard wheels is a 4% difference. You can also get lug nut covers and a little Tesla plague for the center.

Currently renting one while my KIA Niro Hybrid is in the shop and this car is out of this world. The power is insane. having your speed on the big infotainment screen was a bit different and took some time getting used to but i love the traffic cameras and they are so clear and this car really gets up there on the highway. Don’t think i’ll ever own one considering the price of these are a little out of my budget but nonetheless it’s really fun to drive and so many people look at you while you’re driving one. None the less it feels good driving a near $50,000 car when i work a $45,000 a year job

Regarding the location of the speedometer... the Toyota Echo also had a center-mounted speedometer. I drove an Echo for three years. I found it was pretty easy to get used to it after the first couple weeks.
