I really appreciated this video, thank you! Trying to find out if I should get a Tesla and this helped. On another note, batteries are quite well understood in physics. Of course, if you use less battery overall (if you're not plugging phones you're using less battery, etc) the health will not decrease as fast, giving the illusion it is improving. Any kind of usage will contribute to reduce the life-span of a Lithium Ion battery. These batteries, at their core, operate by semi-reversible redox reactions. During charging we are promoting the oxidation reaction Li2X > LiX + Li+ + e- and then using the ion and electron, the reduction reaction: Li+ + e- > Li. This replenishes the Li present in the battery. When discharging, the promoted reaction is the oxidation: Li > Li+ + e- and then the reduction: LiX + Li+ + e- > Li2X. So, no new material is being put into the battery when charging/discharging, the battery already contains a finite amount of particles that will last seemingly forever. You might ask, what makes it go one way during charge and another during discharge. Well, when you supply an electric circuit, the electrochemical potential changes, and this is what mediates which redox reaction happens. When it stops charging and no electrical load is being supplied, the other redox happens. These seem completely reversible reactions, and they are. The problem is that loss of the electrolytes is not avoidable by forming an SEI, high temperatures, high/low voltages, particle impact deterioration, the cathode and anode deteriorating over time and being able to hold less, etc. This happens even when the battery isn't being used but at a much lower rate. The more you use the battery (higher/lower voltages, temperatures) the more stress you're placing and these reactions which promote deterioration of the battery happen at a higher rate. The problem is maintaining a decent level of battery usage and prolonging its lifespan. Batteries are often accompanied by battery managing systems that try to keep it in a range between 20%-80% or whatever is most optimal for that battery and maybe warn you or display voltage. Btw: Temperature is by far the most impacting thing, keep it within a safe temperature! So, to conclude, it makes perfect sense that if you put less strain on it, by keeping it not too low but now too high percentage levels and using less items at a time, and using less battery overall, then it will last longer. The answer provided by Tesla is likely due to the fact that there is virtually no difference between keeping your battery at 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%. The system should be optimized for these ranges. Lower percentages are just generally not recommended because it's generally better for QoL to have higher percentages of battery. So, anywhere between these ranges is fine to keep your Tesla, and to be fair even lower ones as long as you don't get too low. It's safer to keep it in the range they claim because we don't know :D Edited: Formatting and addition of temperature tip. Added first line. Added last line. I really couldn't stop laughing after you said "maybe some of you sleep in a Tesla car". I was thinking for the price of a model S, you could buy an okay apartment, why not just buy the Tesla and live there? :D

I own both model Y and Prius, and here are my real world numbers. In my recent trip from San Francisco to Davis California, I added 113 miles with SuperCharge that costed me around $19.00. With Prius, it would consume (113miles / 57mpg) 1.98 Gal of gas. The current gas price in California is about $4.5/gal. So the cost of Prius for 113 miles would be ($4.5/ gal x 1.98gal) $8.90. Tesla advertised “potential saving” is actually twice expensive than a gas car on a road trip.

I started with 90% battery and 31% remaining when return. Overnight home charging (off peak) back to 90% costed me $12 (~47KW). If I would take my Prius for the same trip, it would consume (120 miles/55mpg) 2.2 gal of gas. Yesterday the gas price is $5.00/gal in California. So the cost of taking Prius for the same trip would cost me $11.00. Still beat Tesla even with $5 gas price. -:). No prejudice, just want get the numbers out.

If you live in an apartment, you could use supercharging, 20 minutes gives you 60 to 80 percent battery, more than enough to get you through a couple of days or more. Charge your battery once a week to 100%. Buy a spare tire if that is a concern. The car is very low to no maintenance at all and if you are handy, you could fix it yourself, it is very easy. Any body shop could repair Teslas if it is not structural damage, but things are improving. Teslas are cheaper now and you could get a basic model 3 for 39k and the gov. incentive will put the car in the lower 30k. It’s good that the charging challenge isn’t stopping you from getting this Tesla. I love my model 3. With so many chargers around you’ll be fine. Your map app will even tell you how many stalls are free so you can go to the one without a line if you’re in a rush. If you charge it at night, you can make it a habit of going after 9pm and make it a Netflix event while it fully charged in 30 minutes!

Good points! However as for the charging precentage, there is one expection: the LFP Model 3 can and should be charged to 100% and it lasts ~5 times more cycles than standard li-ion batteries. It's a game changer for the longetivity of EV's, I wish more cars start to use those types of batteries.
@CameraToFreedom Жыл бұрын

@DigiDriftZone Жыл бұрын
@@CameraToFreedom LFP batteries have 30-50% less energy density, so it's not possible to make a long range version, it would be too heavy. Also, the charge to 100% damages the battery, but you have to do that often or the car can't predict how much range you have left as the voltage level is similar for a full charge and empty charge. There are other advantages such as extremely slow charging in winter, significantly reduced performance and range in winter, etc. You are lucky not to have LFP to be honest :)

Great video, man! I'm actually going back and forth on ordering the M3 Performance or M3LR. Do you know which software update it is that you need to get the performance features in the M3LR?
@CameraToFreedom2 жыл бұрын
So if you get the performance it comes with spoiler and that badge that says it’s performance. Best of all you can pick the 20 inch turbine rim that looks so damn good on the model 3. Long range you have to buy aftermarket if you want that rim. Performance, not many people get it so you can actually get it in a month sometimes! Long range, everyone wants it so the wait time can be as long as a year now! Yes you can get a software update to give your long range a speed boost but not sure if it’s still fast as the performance. After having my long range for a while I hardly need that 350 miles. 313 for performance is long enough. I’m usually charging to 250 miles in mine and I still don’t use that much miles. If you want that sporty look plus faster purchase and that speed that makes you faster then most super car then performance is it. I kind of regret getting the long range and wished for the performance! Bet it’s so fun to drive that!

1) On changing, I agree IF you drive long range a lot, but I drive 13 miles to work, 13 back. I can go on sport mode all the time no issue. 2) My apartment has charging stations. Since 2016ish I have never seen an apartment complex without one. Arkansas even had one when I lived there. 3) LOL on repair. My F150s engine broke, it was in the shop for like a month. Repair times suck all round. 4) Yes the battery thing is annoying.... but eh, I don't travel far, again if you do, yeah maybe stay gas. 5) No spare tire? Oh well. I've never had a catastrophic flat tire. I have ran over a nail twice, both in my F150. It alerts me I was losing pressure, I pulled into a service station and they patched it and gave it air. To need a spare because you can't make it a few miles to a station you need to annihilate that tire. I have never needed a spare in my life and I'm low 40s. 6) You don't want to modify your car, unless you are a mechanic, lol. I got a dealer installed supercharger on my F150 and the engine blew up TWICE in 6 years. I will never modify again, Ill just buy a fast car factory spec. It was super fun dusting sports cars with a truck though. 7) No apple or Andrioid..... I don't care. Im focused on driving, I am a speeder and hyper aggressive driver, all my focus is on the road, not music, phone calls or anything else. 8) My Tesla Model 3 Performance cost 51k before taxes. Tesla prices go up and down like a roller coaster. 51k is a steal for a 3.2 second to 60 car. I 100% agree with the end. I WANTED a high end BMW M class, AMG Merc, or a Tesla Model S Plaid but I can't afford it, so 3 Performance it is. Maybe some day I'll make more money, but as it stands Im doing better than most Americans and better than 97% of humanity so what can you do.

1. There is no charge anxiety with Tesla as you’ve pointed out. Tesla has done an exemplary job. Unlike all other companies. I’ve never waited for an available charger. Ever. In 3 1/2 years. Always a great experience. Across the Midwest and traveling to NY, never had to wait. 2. Even for people at apartments, superchargers are plentiful near or at work. My brother in law has free charging at his work. Becoming more common all the time. 3. Repairs? What repairs? EV motors are heavy duty and can last millions of miles. Tesla owners doing ride sharing are hitting a million miles on original batteries. 90%+ of any ‘recalls’ or repairs are handled with over the air updates. Aka zero time and inconvenience to even need to see a dealer. Life is good. 5. I charge to 80 to 90% regularly. No anxiety. All good. Don’t worry be happy. At 45K Miles and 3 1/2 years battery still charges to 94%. 6. Yep. We face a penalty for wind, for high speed, for cold weather. But as a human I need to stop every couple hundred miles anyhow. 6. Lots of cars come with no spare tires now, or space savers which aren’t even worth putting on. Who cares. We mostly run on run flat tires. If you are risk adverse throw a spare in your trunk as you point out. 7. No need to modify a car which is always continually getting better with each over the air update. Tesla modifies it for you. Mine is better faster and smarter than when new. Tesla model 3 performance was 0 to 60 MPH in 3.21 seconds when brand new. Now it’s closer to 3.03 seconds. It’s amazing. Don’t try to modify it unless you just wish to waste money my friend. Let Tesla do it for you. 8. Teslas music and entertainment systems are fantastic. It’s inexpensive. I am an apple fan too. Fireplace is awesome. And I agree with you it’s as close to perfect a car as one can reasonably expect. Glad we are both fans. All the best to you. Tesla model 3 is truly a remarkable car.

They are not going to be a good thing in every country .Here in UK they are so heavy they are damaging the roads. Because of the danger of catching fire many ferry companies and car carrying trains have banned them .Older multi story car parks are in danger because of the extra weight of them .Evidently on Tesla there is a fault with brake lights not working properly and head lights dazzling on coming cars ? And doors not being aligned.
@John-ob7dh Жыл бұрын
Everyone is undoubtedly aware of Tesla's recent problems, from the Autopilot failures to the fires. These compiling issues have resulted in a massive recall. The company has recalled almost a half-million vehicles as recently as December 2021. Though the most significant number of recalls is for the rearview camera, it is just the latest in a long string of mishaps plaguing the company. Front hood problems and trunk latch problems also caused the recalls. Though they may not seem like much, a growing trend in faulty components being used in Tesla cars leads to poor overall quality.

I don't know why the Model 3 displays the charge (on the dash) in terms of distance (i.e. kms) instead of percentage of power remaining. The problem with the distance reading is it is woefully inaccurate. That's because there are so many other drains on power besides the distance you have driven (heat; a/c; maybe even radio? to mention a few). It doesn't take long to realize that you cannot rely on that readout in order to plan your recharging strategy. Maybe not a huge deal, once you get used to it, but a bit of a negative on the Tesla design nonetheless.

She got the model Y. So she also said she only got the loaner car because her insurance had loaner car coverage but she wouldn’t have gotten a loaner car at all if she didn’t have that coverage. Loaner car is always paid and never given for free from Tesla. :/ just learned that!

This was very informative especially the maintenance aspect of it cause I live in menifee which is right by Temecula & I always wondered where we would get our teslas serviced.
@CameraToFreedom Жыл бұрын
What’s up neighbor! I just got it serviced in Temecula Tesla and what a great experience. It was the first time I ever had to service but it was to replace the bottom plastic cover since I ran over something and tore it. I actually had a great experience and am going to make a video on it. I’m sure experience depends on the cars issue.

Good video, but very strong personal opinion. Many cars do not provide spare tires. Coming from C300, it did not come with a spare tire; it is basically to save weight and use the space more efficiently. Tesla model 3 RWD is a downgrade for me in terms of driving and quality experience. However, I can't go back after experiencing how convenient Tesla is. Few improvements to make it better, but very satisfied.
@CameraToFreedom2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Ataur! I actually didn’t know there were other cars that didn’t have spare tire. I actually just recently found out that there are other cars that have auto pilot that Tesla Has where it’ll steer for you! Learning as I go. Thanks for the comment!

@CameraToFreedom Жыл бұрын
You still get portion of the tax credit incentive so you’re kind of saving $5000 or so by buying it used. I like my model 2022 model just cause the trimming is black instead of chrome from 2021. 2022 models also have easier access to ports if you want to install monitors and accessories. Id say get a used 2022 model or buy the new 2023 since they are at its lowest price ever! So low other auto companies are stressed out.

Maybe has to do with my old age, but my tesla insurance was the same price as my Pathfinder. Plus if you drive very safely, Tesla has their own insurance and rewards people for driving slowly.

Wish the Tesla insurance was in all states. Before MD was allowed, I Passed on tesla years ago because most the Named brand insurance wanted 230-330 a month. With the tesla insurance from them its only 60 now. Only reason I picked one up. Way less than my past car lol.

I have never had phantom breaking on my car in the freeway where I normally use autopilot but I’m sure it might happen in regular housing area roads where the roads aren’t marked properly which makes sense.

I agree. So far superchargers have been great where I’m at and it’s only growing as we speak. But here I’m Temecula, we do only have 2 small superchargers and there’s a line the few times I went there. You might be having a good experience in your area but there are people around in more rural areas that comes to a challenge.

10 counter reasons.. #1 a woman buys a car and does zero research on it. How do you buy an EV that you know has to be charged, and not expect a 12 hour trip to take 15-16 hours? Sounds like its a her problem not a tesla. #2 If you live in an apartment yet still blow 50-70 grand on a car, you are awful with money. Dont buy a tesla. #3 Your car shouldn't ever NEED to be fixed if your a good driver. (sounds like you know a lot of bad woman drivers) Long wait times are not just for Tesla.. I just had a new clutch put in and the shops are so backed up it took them 3 weeks to even get me in. #4 Takes 5 mins to figure out Tesla DOES have an absolute answer its 90% right on their website. Exact same thing with ICE cars.. Sometimes you get 25mpg, sometimes you get 28mpg.. Imagine this, sometimes youll get 19mpg. Depends on how much fuel you are using. #5 99.999% of the times spare tires do nothing but add weight/take up cargo space. Also, it would have to be a full size spare tire, not a small one, 5000 pound car. Heavy cars do not use tiny spares. If you get a flat, plug it, refill tire.. If your "stressed" over that, just call roadside assistance. #6 Modified cars, I remember being 20. Ruining warranties, adding intakes that actually make the car slower without a proper tune.. Fun times blowing hundreds of dollars to get 20 extra HP. If you are older and still enjoy that stuff, buy a reliable 5k civic and boost it.. #7 I owned Iphone since 2008 and never once used apple play so cant comment on this. Bluetooth has worked in every car iv owned so dont care about this. #8 "This car has limited steaming service, it ONLY has, 1,2,3,4,5, SIX services! While 95% of every car in the world has 1, its called a radio. Thats some first world complaining. #9 Spends 50-70,000 dollars on car, worried about 10$ a month. If you're that cheap, why did you buy this car? #10 Alright now the car is affordable to you, yet you just complained about spending 10$ a month. Sounds like you personally have zero reasons and just wanted to post a video and milk that top 10 algorithm.

I charge my model 3 most of the time for free at the shopping mall a mile from my apartment and there are super chargers there too! Repair problems are not because your car is a Tesla, it relates to how many repair shops are in your area!

The $10 premium connection is not required. I've been driving without it for a year & half now. Tesla has free basic Internet for connectivity, software update & navigation. I can still remotely check my car status, lock/unlock it, start/stop charging, engage climate control, check its location, etc. Teslas can connect to a phone hotspot via wifi and all its streaming apps will work. The only thing missing as far as I can see is remotely access sentry mode videos.
