I know that it is difficult to compare players who were exclusively in the Negro Leagues but most major leaguers who were his contemporaries would be upset with a list of greatest catchers that did not include Josh Gibson near the top. Gary Carter definitely deserves a place on this list. His WAR was outstanding for a catcher, second only to Bench. He did not win an MVP award, let alone two as the video claims.

Campanella didn't start with the Dodgers until he was 27. Had he been 'eligible' and called up at age 20, as Bench was, Campy may have won 5 or 6 MVP's and there would be no debate. Berra struck out 414 times, Bench 1278.

I'm a Chargers fan , also & I can say but , what & if a ton of times ? They were not in the same decades & teams ? Yankees were WAY better then MOST teams they played form Ruth to Mantle era's & that is a few decades there ? Play Off systems were NOT the same in the 20's to all most the END of the 1960's [ 1969 ] that all changed ? More games & teams to get around , just to get into the World Series after that year .

Berra won 10 World Series to Bench's 2. More MVPs. More clutch. Better average. Called better games that won more playoffs and world series when it mattered. Asked if they would rather face Mantle or Berra in the playoffs, they said Mantle. That says it all. He was also a winning manager and coach. Berra's 10 world series is the most all time and will never be repeated. And this trumps any minor differences in war. There were no gold gloves when Berra catched.

Why was that , for Mantle K"D or walked a lot ? MLB ALL - TIME K king at bat , when he retired . Till good OLD Reggie passed him up ? PS those 2 had OTHER great players around them for a LONG time , It took a couple of years to get the REDS like that [1970 ] Rose & Bench , Perez had to wait a few years ?
