Aladdin also picked the wrong guy to play Jafar, removed his song for a useless feminist song that nobody is interested in or cares about, an uninteresting side story with a love interest for the genie which nobody really cares about that much, and Iago is no longer an entertaining character but feels like a character just shoehorned in because the fans liked the character in the original. And the final battle is nowhere near as epic. Also the Lion King messed up big time for the remake.

It's so refreshing to see a video defending the live-action Disney remakes rather than bashing them. I actually think I prefer them to the original cartoons. I think Disney does so good with life action remakes! For me they pretty much succeed to make everything look like in the animation. I Aladin everything looks just the same. Don't know why a lot of people bash Emma Watson, she truly looks exactly like Belle to me. I'm honestly a little bummed that the actress for the role of Ariel doesn't look anything like her but I'm gonna watch the movie anyways when I have the chance too. I liked the update in the live action "Beauty and the Beast" movie (2017) where it showed that the Beast was actually very highly educated and well read. He and Belle bonded over shared conversation and reading. In the original, the Prince/Beast was illiterate. I thought this update was more realistic in showing the characters of Belle and Prince/Beast enjoying each others company and falling in love.

Technically in the original Beauty and the Beast, Adam had learned to read as a child, but he didn't really keep up with it, causing him to forget what he had learned. If I remember correctly, his line in the original is as follows... "I learned... a little. It's just been so long....." Remember, as human beings, learned applications can be forgotten over time, several of which are covered under language. Reading is one of them. Just in modern days it is a necessity, and it seems very out of place that someone couldn't remember how to read.

I agree with you there. He is portrayed as a clumsy, dopey character in the original, but in the remake he is more dignified, even though he is still Gaston's henchman, he still is more refined and has more character depth. I also like that they picked up on the rumor that Lefou may have been gay. It may be still just all talk, but action in the movie shows that tendency, even though it wasn't inexplicably defined. I love that they opened up so many things in Beauty and the Beast. I remember prior to the remake, there were rumors of the Enchantress being Belle's mother, which at the time I dismissed because it seemed absurd to me, and now in the remake it expands as to why her mother was not in the movie. It also gives more definition to Adam's family as well. Why his own mother wasn't mentioned in the movie, nor his father. How could a kind, well-meaning child turn into such a narcissist without learning from another source, such as his father in the remake?

Yes those are "fairy tales" but to see black characters in what is essentially 16th or 17th France is just wrong. If Hollywood wants more diversity, they should do an African Legend or a legend from another non-European country, not twist our culture to suit American identity politics. I have to disagree on this. Black people in France have existed, either as slaves or as free men since the middle age (take for instance Saint Maurice, generally portrayed as a black man. The name Maurice itself comes from the Maures, people from Northern and Saharian Africa who were frequent visitors of Europe at that time). Interconnexion between France and Africa is as old as the Roman Empire, it did not start with slavery and colonization. Asian characters would have felt more out of place, or Native Americans, but there were black people, even though not as much as in the times of slavery and/or colonization. So French culture is not at all twisted by the fact that there is a black librarian in Beauty and Beast in my opinion, much more because Ewan Mc Gregor is the only one with an actual French accent.

I always find it odd when people criticize Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty for not having very complex characters. Because the thing is, back then, they were still getting the hang of the medium. Feature-length animated films were a new thing, and they were trying to get the hang of what they could do with it visually. Character arcs would come along later. Because sure, Snow White and Aurora needed to be 'rescued' and woken from their slumber by their prince (. . . kinda uncomfortable claiming Cinderella should have rescued herself as it implies people living with abusive families should somehow handle that on their own) but 2/3 of the princes don't even have names.

#10- I am fine with Diversity in movies as long as the actors do good at their performances. For me, that's more important. #9- I never saw the live action movie since I can't stand the original anyway so I won't comment. I will say this though, Sher Khan is my char from the original and one of my fav Disney Villains. Since they did give him a reason for hunting down humans in the original, it's fine that they went more in depth here. #8- I totally disagree with. One of the things I LOVED about the original Sleeping Beauty was Maleficent herself and how she loved being evil. It's why I despise this remake to begin with. Why does every great villain have to have a sympathizing backstory? For me in creating Maleficent into an 'anti-hero' they had to ruin the personalities of the other chars, like the 3 fairies, Prince Phillip, and especially King Stefan. So the fact she broke her own curse, I don't like that. If others like this movie though, it's fine with me. #7- I did like this part of the Cinderella movie. In fact I will say this is one of the better ones, even though I understand people found it boring. As for the original movie, I do rank it 3rd out of Classic Disney Princess movies because of how Cinderella got treated by her step-family. I did like how in this movie they gave some historical context about how hard it is for a widower to raise children without an income. That's no excuse for how she treated Cinderella, but I am glad they added that. #6- I never saw this movie either as I love the original too much. To be honest, the fact that the villagers forgot about this castle never bothered me, even as an adult, I didn't know that was a plot hole. This would be one change though I wouldn't mind too much. I definitely don't agree with is the Servants becoming inanimate. NOW THAT is going too far. #5- Totally agree with here, plus the fact that the prince got more screen time and develop a personality. I have no big issues with Prince Charming in the original and I chalked up their romance being the "love at first sight trope" which I am fine with since I believe it exists. #4- Well that's interesting. I did hear that in Rudyard's original work Mowgli did return to the Jungle after living with his kind for awhile. #3- *Points to what I said in #8* Enough said. #2- Yeah I did pick up on that as a kid about the glass window part with the Beast looking like an adult then. Maybe it should have been his 31st birthday? Lol. So yeah this is one change I would be fine with. HM#1- Yeah, we only got a hint of that in the original. HM#2- This the only time when I prefer Live action to the Original since it did 2 things I felt the original was lacking in- Cruella paying for her crimes and the humans figuring out she did kidnap the puppies. I still like the original though. HM#3- Not knowing who Belle's mother was never bothered me. After all, this wasn't the first Disney movie where the mother was missing and it's a common Disney trope for the main char to be lacking a parent. #1- Really? That's #1? You're pulling the feminist card here? Btw, I am a grown female woman and I am not ashamed to admit that I love the 'damsel in distress' trope. May I remind you that Belle from the original was already 'ahead of her time' since she could actually read since reading was a luxury. Plus I can't stand modern feminism. It feels like their trying to push the 'women need to be more independent' card and can't have any kind of assistance. Granted the first 3 Disney princesses did need helping in the end, but they weren't entirely passive, even Aurora. She learned how to take care of herself and was allowed to walk in the forest alone by herself screams reliability to me. Just in some circumstances the things around them were bigger then them. Tell me something, if your world had magic in it, and you had no defense against it, you would need help from someone who could appose it. Aurora's world is the most magic driven out of all the Disney Princess worlds since there were magical forces from both sides. Closest to it would be Princess in the Frog, but even though Tiana was cursed, she had a way to take care of it itself. Aurora's circumstances were entirely outside of her control when it came to the big picture, plus she wasn't fully made aware of the situation.

I agree with diversity in films, as long as it makes sense contextually - for movies set in certain time periods and countries. Like, it wouldn’t make sense to have a black man as a prince in Europe in a movie set in the 15th century.
@Zodia1955 жыл бұрын
@@cataryad661 Yeah, I just think since it's a world of fiction they would take a few liberties. Like if they really wanted the movies to be 100% accurate, every char in Beauty and the Beast would have a French Accent, but it was only Lumiere who had it. And in The Little Mermaid, Sebastian wouldn't sound like he was from the Caribbean since that movie takes place in Denmark.
@emmayonker56865 жыл бұрын
Also people forget or over look that in sleeping beauty, it isn't the prince that saves her. It was the 3 fairies that save her. They help the prince but ultimately without them the prince and Aurora are screwed.
@lucase96985 жыл бұрын
I do love the 'damsel in distress' trope too, but i really think there should be certain movies where the female lead needs assistance, and others where the female lead is strong and independent. If every movie we see female leads are weak and male leads are heroic, strong and do everything then we repeat a sexist agenda. I did wanted to see a live action adaptation of the classic Sleeping Beauty, but because i like accurate adaptations. If we go back to the 30s and 50s thought (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora) it was pretty fucked up that every female lead was weak as fuck and were trapped in a situation where they couldnt do anything and they needed help from someone, its not Auroras fault to be sleep her whole movie, it was the movie makers fault for making every disney princess to clean, cook, sing and "being beautiful" as their most important qualities, being passive and in needing of help in their own movies.

There was a certain, indescribable magic to the movie that I didn’t feel with the other live-actions. Also, to everyone telling Ella she wasn’t a “strong and independent woman,” well I beg to differ. She might have not done any fighting and such, but it’s her willingness to sacrifice her freedom and consistent character was what made her strong. I hate to criticise a ms mojo list, but I feel that she is wrong about Shere Khan. Kipling worked the duality of the character into the story and the modern background weakens it. Shere Khan deliberately had nothing against Mowgli personally but was fearful of what he represented. That is to say Shere Khan in Kipling's original had a fear of fire because of what it symbolically represented; modernity, advancement, and the destruction and perversion of the 'natural' order in pursuit of those goals. To make Shere Khan's fear off fire personal is to miss the point entirely. Although I guess the first Disney film did that too. In Kipling's original text, the antagonsts can be seen as either pro- or anti-Imperialist and equally pro- or anti-progress, in a Whiggist sort of way. Regardless of the interpreatation, though, Shere Khan represents a regresive fear - one that advancing modernity i.e. man (i.e. fire ergo i.e. humanity) will deory a savage but natural and predetermined order. Regardless of whether you decide to read Kipling as pro-, anti, or post-coloialist it is wrong to intpret the character as having a personal venegenge against 'fire'. A literal' interpretation of the character isn't only boring and painfully surface, but it fundamentaly misunderstands Kipling and his context for the sake of convinience.

I think another great change from the cartoon movies to the live-action is in Cinderella. In the 1950 version, Prince Charming was less involved in the movie, leaving the a Grand Duke (his servant) to help move the story along to its already known fate. For example, the Grand Duke is the one who chases after Cinderella after she quickly leaves the ball and then he's also the one who travels throughout the village to find the girl, the missing slipper belonged to (aka Cinderella). Additionally, the prince doesn't speak very much, other than asking for Cinderella's name. While in the 2015 version, Prince Charming is the one who chases after Cinderella during the famous "running down the stairs" scene. And even though he wasn't leading the expedition to find Cinderella, later on, he did end up sneaking onto the search team, which shows his great motivation and love for this mysterious maiden. Prince Charming also has a lot more dialogue and the viewers can see the better connection between him and Cinderella.

@Delcattiy5 жыл бұрын
Why did it creep you out? I had always thought even as a kid when I first watched it that it was sweet. Two people without a spouse possibly finding romance? and also in the original, Belle already treats Chip like a little brother, so why not? And if it's anything to say about Mrs. Potts' name, many women in that time period actually kept their married names, even if something or other ended up separating the two (aka biggest example is death) and women tried after their mourning period to find another husband, especially if there were children involved. Just like in the time period of Cinderella, women didn't really have any source of income for themselves; usually came from the husband, unless they were very high up in the social chain, as in a lady of the royal court, possibly even princess at highest. In Cinderella, Lady Tremaine may have been a Lady, but she wasn't close to the royal court. As with Beauty and the Beast; Mrs. Potts was a servant. She couldn't possibly make enough to support her and her son both, not on a servant's pay in the time it is set. So, women would attempt to find husbands if they didn't have one already, especially to ensure the continued health of their own children, as Lady Tremaine did explicitly say in the remake of Cinderella.

Why even bother making new original story if you have already successful and nostalgic properties like Beauty and The Beast, Lion King, and Aladdin? It's not like we (Disney) dominate the whole entertainment industry and we pretty much too rich to fail. As much as I appreciate how great Lion King's photorealism is, the movie was so boring. As much as I loved her role as Hermione in Harry Potter, Emma Watson sucks as Belle. I don't even talk about the new songs. That Jasmine and Beyonce songs are actually bad. If you think I'm just the original fans that just butthurt because they ruin my childhood, guess what. 2:38 No, absolutely not. NOTHING about the changes made in Maleficent was better than the original, or even good for that matter. It was stupid, predictable, and it utterly destroyed the image of one Disney’s greatest and most evil villains (perhaps thee greatest of their villains). 6:55 No again. The whole point of Mowgli leaving the jungle is to grow up and take his place in the world, rather than spend the rest of his days fooling around, not taking on any responsibilities, and staying stuck in the past rather than accepting who he is. It’s a story about growing up and finding you’re place in the world, not simply staying where you are all the time. 7:44 I can agree that giving Maleficent a tragic background makes for a more compelling story, but having it lead up to a redemption and making her the good guy was a major mistake, as I stated above. It would have been better that if, after Aurora succumbed the curse, that Maleficent fully embraced her evil side, claiming that her revenge was now all she had left after losing Aurora’s love.
