I relate most to Tiana. Being so overworked nearly 24/7 in order to make your dreams come true is a struggle I go through everyday. It's characters like her that remind me how much it's worth it, while characters like Naveen remind me that everyone needs to let loose sometimes.

Tbh I'm actually hurt at the exclusion of Lilo and Nani. Lilo meant so much to me growing up as an undiagnosed Autistic girl and Nani reminded me so much of my older sister who did her best trying to handle me. I also related heavily with Stitch because I felt like I was a monster programmed to only do the wrong thing.. but Stitch isn't a heroine lol

No Wendy Darling?! Wendy is the very epitome of relatable. We've all liked somebody that we shouldn't have, been turned by a pretty face and a pretty head. And then she chooses her own self happiness over a potentially toxic relationship. And on top of that she's making that mature decision at 12 years old. Personally I think she doesn't get enough credit.

Cinderella is actually quite relatable. Not in terms of having the luck to go to a ball, most people aren't like that, but many children are in abusive households. And she does have more character development in the sequels, you forgot. Heck in the first part of the second movie, the plot is literally about her making mistakes and being under pressure, trying to make others happy instead of doing what makes HER happy, so actually she is fairly relatable.

As the older sister I relate to Merida, Isabela, Luisa and Elsa. They must be the example and they have to be what their parents want them to be and do everything they expect. This is so much pressure and they do anything to protect their younger siblings even from themselves but they crave for freedom and they finally just want to be themselves and be accepted as who they are without having to explain themselves to anyone. Sometimes they have to be drastic to finally get their freedom because it sure as hell doesn't come for free.

I'm surprised that Alice is so low. The moment when she realizes she's at fault for her own problems in the "Very Good Advice" really hit close to home for me, especially as I got older. Who can't relate to being in a bad situation that you created knowing full well you should have known better. Everyone has that moment when you realize that your old habits die hard and it stings knowing your struggling to take responsibility for yourself. That moment when a lesson comes to you as a slap to the face. I understand Alice in Wonderland isn't a traditional coming of age story, but still, you don't see that too often. The hero/heroine admits their mistakes without the movie framing it like they were taken advantage of by someone, especially in kids movies. Is it just me?

I’m so glad Merida and Mirabelle are at the top of the lists cause they’re people I can relate to the most! Even to this day, people keep saying that I should do what THEY think is best for me and that I shouldn’t do what I want to do because I have ADHD and “don’t know any better” but I want to do my own decisions and prove that I know more than people think I do. And it’s because of my ADHD that I’m an oddball like Mirabelle, especially to my immediate family. While I’m well-loved by my extended family and am always included in group activities and such, when it comes to my parents and younger brother (who also has autism), they would much rather pass me over and regard me as a black sheep and would much rather choose my own brother over me despite the fact that I’m more independent and less “high-maintenance” than him cause I’m not as severe on the autistic spectrum as he is yet they always choose him because unlike him I don’t just sit there quietly and behave perfectly. Like Mirabelle, I always feel like I have to be someone I’m not in order to fit in with my family

20: It is true that Snow White comes across as a parody of a Disney Princess even if she was the first one, but I must say that I adore her relationship with the dwarfs. 19: It is true that Aurora's only role in the story seems to be to be fought over by the fairies and Maleficent and then fall asleep, but that is hardly her fault. 18: Okay, now I must really disagree since Cinderella is my favorie out of the three classic princesses since she actually has a spunky side to her. 17: Even if Alice is an okay character, her movie is bizarre enough to make it impossible for me to finish it. 16: It is pointless to criticize "Pocahontas" for the historical inaccuracies since a Disney movie about Pocahontas would have to take such liberties. Since I haven't seen "Raya and the last dragon" yet, I can't really say anything about Raya. However, I guess I just agree about the rest even though I would change some of the placings even if I would keep Mirabel at the top. But I would say that I relate a lot to Belle and Jane Porter as well.

Oh Yeah.. Mirabel deserves truly the First place: Is the most relatable for those of us who don't feel special.. Also Tiana for inspiring us to strive for our dreams.. Elsa, like her, at first it scares us to show ourselves how we really are and what makes us special and I love when she discovers that she is who she is, and accepts herself.. Anna, for her altruism and resilience, I don't know what I felt when I saw her get up from her depression, IT'S VERY RELATABLE for me.. Mulan, because at the beginning, she wanted to save her father and bring honor to her family, seeking to improve herself.. Rapunzel is creative, dreamy, adventurous, curious and a free spirit, self-sufficient although she did not believe it.. and Bella is seen as an odd for not socializing much; and I think that should have to be here Nala or not? for reminding others of their responsibility and for what is right

For me, it’s a combination of Tiana, Mirabel and Anna. Now that my dad has semi-retired to part time hours, my forty hours a week makes me the current hardest worker in the family, but both my parents have had to work harder in the past. Compared to the rest of my family, I feel unreliable and not as clever. I also didn’t realize what struggles my older brother was going through because I had struggles of my own. Where I’m closer to Tiana is that my dream is to be alone. I can think about what the perfect guy might be like, but that doesn’t mean he’ll exist, let alone like me. But other characters keep trying to force her to believe in love. And obviously I have traded body parts to a sea witch.

When I was a kid I felt like I could fit in with anybody due to the fact that I loved cartoons and I was Pokemon's number one fan and all of my friends went along with me even creating endless stories over them. Yet once I started becoming a preteen and a teenager and I became Sonic the Hedgehog's number one fan everything changed. It was like everyone had moved on from cartoons and making up stories over them but me. I had friends who loved cartoons, yes, but it was like I was more into them than they were and while I did embrace reality more I felt like they cared more about reality in some ways more than me. It really made me feel like a total outcast especially since I made up three novels that were over a thousand pages over Sonic and his show, Sonic X, with my own twist and spin. To make matters worse I saw in teenage books and teenage things that claimed to relate with me and all it was about was about teens talking about boys, talking about reality, talking about makeup, talking about girlie girl things like fashion, things that I'm not at all into. That really made me feel like a lot of Disney princesses out there or outcast characters out there who is the only one who can't do or aren't into the things that other characters are into. Ariel is my favorite Disney Princess and she's the only one who longs for the human world and not her own world, Rapunzel is my second favorite and she fights for her dreams like I do, and Mirabel is one of my favorite Disney Princesses yet she starts off not ordinary in everyone else's eyes only to wind up extraordinary in the end. I also was diagnosed with autism when I was 26 so it explains why I felt so out of place in some ways even though I was great at making friends. I’m 29 now. Reality is more important and I have embraced it even as a teenager and a preteen but I can’t deny that I have a love for fantasy more so than others out there if that makes sense. I now feel extraordinary in the end just like Mirable and I have a boyfriend who is in lots of ways like me and loves me for who I am and I have found people like me in real life and on the internet. So I found myself. I love it! EEP! :)

I can give you 8 to 10 of them I relate to but I'm also in my 50s and I've lived a good portion of my life and know where it's been and somewhat of where it's going. The strongest connections are to Mirabel for how she was treated in her family and Elsa for when I finally broke free from the idea that I would ever get the love and acceptance that I had been living my whole life for (in other words, I spent my childhood and into my early 20s living the life my family wanted me to live in hopes it would gain me their love). It never was going to happen so I had to make that happen for myself. The others are pieces of Belle, Esmeralda, Anna, Rapunzel, Merida, Mulan and Ariel. I would guess that many of us have more than one of them in us because they are relatable characters on purpose.

I have always felt that Penny from The Rescuers was very relatable. When I was little, I could not relate to the girls of Disney because they were all older girls or young women who were all in situations that I didn't really understand. I related to Penny because she was my age, she was an ordinary character with no wealth or expectations to behave a certain way, she was smart despite grownups treating her like she wasn't, and, despite being brave, she was every bit as fragile and vulnerable as any child that age would be.

@@amberbradshaw1461 Mirabel’s technically the youngest, since she’s the 5th grandkid. What I meant is that I can relate to her situation, I’m not the youngest member of my family whose the baby of the family but I’m not the oldest, who’s already successful or popular in my family. So I’m kinda like Mirabel, no one really notices me.

Meg is one of the few heroines that have a past relationship. All other Disney princesses/heroines I can think off have no prior experience with men before meeting the "prince charming" - in the older movies it's because they are so very young and often locked away and protected, and in the newer movies there are other reasons, for example Tiana being only focused on her career. In contrast, many of the "prince charmings" are seen being playboys before meeting the heroin, or they have at least been out and about, seeing the world and meeting different people. The man is also, with no exception, older than the woman. This is one of my pet peeves and I really hope future movies will make this picture more nuanced. (Then of course there are the heroines that don't have any romantic interests at all, which is also a great addition in newer movies).
@Furienna
@Furienna Жыл бұрын
Well, we have to remember that Duchess in "Aristocats" already was a mother with three kids when she met O'Malley. Then again, it is like Disney was more willing to make a more mature love story with them since they were cats. Pocahontas is the first female Disney lead to not end up with her first love interest and to find a second love interest in the sequel. But there is also Anna, who believed that Hans was her true love until he revealed his real intentions and she found a genuine love interest in Kristoff. But it's true that most of Disney's female leads are young and sheltered (for better or for worse) before they meet the male leads and fall in love. However, it is not quite true that so many of their male leads are playboys. I can only think of Tramp (and he's a dog, or they wouldn't have gotten away with it back in 1955) and Naveen and maybe Aladdin and Eugene to some degree. Hercules is revealed to have dated a few different girls in the TV series, but I wouldn't call him a playboy. But as for the rest of them, it has never been revealed what their romantic past is or if they even have one...

This list is weird. You say it’s based on relatability yet somehow you list some characters who we would relate to more such as Esmeralda lower than other princesses. Heck, if you take all the aspect of historical inaccuracies out of Pocahontas, I can relate to her questioning her place in the world.

Honestly, I think Helen and Violet Parr should've been on this list. Helen is always looking out for the people she loves making sacrifices. While this doesn't feel like sacrifice to her she does realize in the second movie that it's important to also go for what she wants. Violet was relatable for me because she felt like she was an outcast too. While she did find her own inner and outer beauty she did still have to deal with her awkwardness in the second movie. Also her bickering with Dash was very relatable. Same thing with my siblings. We could bicker, we could fight, but when we really needed it we would protect eachother, hug eachother and show nothing but love for eachother. And now that we're older my brother and sister are my best friends!❤

Belle feels relatable and makes me feel seen as I've never felt like I fit in anywhere either and I often put everyone before myself, which includes most of my family. In frozen I do wish they would give Elsa a love interest through. Rapunzel was always my favorite story as a kid. My sister used to tell it to me and I thought that she made it up. I think that I loved that story more than the other fairytales because at the end she saves herself and there weren't many stories then where the girl saves herself.

Ok, there are actually some personality traits from Aurora from the few parts of the story. She smirks sarcastically at the aunts/fairies because apparently, they are keeping secrets for her, and she can tell. She feels trapped and made immature by them because she shouldn't talk to strangers. When her true identity is revealed, she is depressed because her free life with the new true love is ruined and she is forced to do even more things she doesn't want to do. That vulnerability was utilized by Maleficent, so she could be hypnotized - that was scary. So yes, I think she wanted something to say about the story but the fairies wouldn't let her - even if it is of good will.

There is no one singular heroine I fully relate to. 16 year old me definitely would relate to Ariel the most (like dang, parents be a drag). The bibliomanic side of me relates to Bell's thirst for knowledge and love for being taken to another world. I relate to Mulan in the whole masking oneself and not really always showing who I am. I relate to Merida in that I want to do things my own way. I relate to Lilo in that I don't feel like I really fit in and that others just see me as "odd." Anna, well, that girl is as ADHD as they come, and like, same. The list could go on forever. But honestly, it's something I love. I love to be able to find small parts of myself in a multitude of characters. ❤
