All these drivers deserve NO leniency. I am so glad the judges in these cases took a strong stand against drunk/high driving & the self-centered, egocentric drivers who drive in this manner. The age of giving drivers a break on drunk driving offenses, let alone those that cause death, is in the past. The time now is for giving people a break from stupid, selfish drivers who would likely drive drunk again. People who have had a DUI & then have one or more further DUI's, killing innocents, should be treated no differently than someone who deliberately shoots & kills one or more people. The mindset & attitude are the same.

Years ago, a friend's family went out to eat for her niece's birthday. On the way home (they were in 2 cars), some twit was drunk and text fighting with her bf while driving, swerved into their lane. The first car managed to get out of the way, but the hit the other, head on. Birthday girl's mother (my friend's sister) went into the hospital and ended up dying just a day or two before the 1 year anniversary of the wreck. Not sure what happened to the idiot that killed her.

1 out of 5 accidents are caused by drunk drivers. 4 out of 5 are caused by negligence and driving too fast for conditions, I hope soon the 4 out of 5 start to be criminally charged too and that the courts give out stiffer penalties for them also. 1 in 20 will be killed or seriously injured in accidents in their lifetime. I don't like those odds. People need to get serious behind the wheel.

I have a question that really deserves a discussion. What ever happened to the Death Penalty?!? Over the last decade, I have listened to an ongoing debate over the validity of abortion. That being said, why should people be emotionless about the subject of abortion, yet think the Death Penalty is inhumane?!?

Death penalty only punishes the murder's family long term. The murderer gets the anguish up until they are executed. Life in prison with never getting out? That's ongoing punishment for the rest of the murderer's life, letting them suffer with their decisions and knowing its their own damn fault for where they are. Living every day with all that knowledge and guilt. Much more fitting punishment than the release of death.

When the subject of abortion arises, the go to argument is always "What about rape?!? Have YOU ever been raped?!?" It is an argument designed to instill disgusting emotions. My question is "Why aren't we destroying the ugly person who committed this violent atrocity, instead of rationalizing the aborting of a life that never had a chance to live?!?" People want to discuss the civil and humane treatment of violent and dangerous criminals. It's inhumane to put one of those criminals to death via the death penalty. Yet, if that same criminal broke into your home, and your family pet defended your home by attacking same said intruder, there would be little debate on the side of the legal system about putting your pet down when it was simply defending what was theirs!?! This is the twisted, misguided World that we live in.
