Just got back from Dollywood and man we got so many rides on Big Bear Mountain , Dragonflier and Fire Chaser over 3 days. They were all a hit with my 4 year old.

Have you ever been on big bear? It’s so much fun. The Disney coasters are great and all, but I felt like they aren’t as good as BBM.

@@TP_Recommendations yeah it is fun! I just don’t think it holds a candle to the family coaster experiences Disney offers. Asking my family and kids who’ve done them all, and the Dollywood ones aren’t even a consideration in best family coasters, just fun rides. As an enthusiast I see your point of view (which is fine and great!) but I think most people would take big thunder or space mountain over big bear every time.

Dragonflier is super underrated, was one of my favorites at Dollywood. Phoenix Rising coming to BGT looks like it's going to be equally great.

Three family coasters that I think highly of are first, Woodstock Express at Kings Island. It’s a junior wooden coaster located in the Planet Snoopy area that has some good airtime hills. The next two are located at my home park which happens to be Lagoon in Utah. The first of these is Bombora, a surf themed coaster with on board audio that plays Beach Boys type of music. The second is the new one that opened toward the end of last season. That is Primordial. It is built in and around a fake mountain and is interactive. After climbing the lift hill and doing a bit of careening down and around the track outside you enter the mountain and stop at two show sections. You are equipped with a laser to shoot at creatures and score points to save the kingdom from being taken over. For the ending the coaster can go two different routes. You get either the dragon ending which features a drop track, which is about the intensity of the drop on Rise of the Resistance. The other way is the owl ending which features a slide track that the coaster can take either forward or backward. Then there are eight different storyline endings. Oh yeah. And you wear 3-D glasses for this ride.

Under your criteria, I absolutely agree with your top 2. I like Big Bear Mountain more than most high thrill coasters. I also include coasters that might have a higher height requirement, but are also just as gentle as family coasters. With that criteria, Hagrids is just behind Big Bear Mountain. However, my favorite family coaster would then be GhostRider, a ride that is actually quite a bit more gentle than Hershey's Comet, but still so much fun.

I love me a good family coaster. They're often just pure fun, plus I have kids so there's that. I'm sure you could have put any number of coasters on here but top 10s are just inherently restrictive. Here are just a few more honorable mentions I'll throw in (though a lot of them are just piggy backing off your ideas.) You mentioned Oscar's Wacky Taxy but really any of the GG family woodies could be mentioned as part of that same honorable mention list. You also mentioned Thunderation but like with my above comment there are a ton of great Arrow mine trains that are also great family coasters. Roadrunner particularly stands out. In fact, I'd say Thunderation is a bit of a bold answer for a family coaster because it's more aggressive than most of them and a wheel seat should definitely be avoided by young kids or parents who aren't enthusiasts. You also referenced SooperDooperLooper but quite a few Schwarzkopf loopers could also be brought up. I know some people feel that looping coasters can't be family coasters but Schwarzkopf has a decent number with a 42 inch requirement and that's just cool. Revolution was my first looper and it used to have a lower heigh requirement. Shock Wave was my daughter's first looper and it blows my mind that it has a 42 inch requirement. And frankly a fair number of classic woodies have a 42 inch requirement. Heck, not that I'd call it a good family coaster but Great American Scream Machine somehow has the 42 inch requirement. Finally, a lot of water coasters pass muster. Journey to Atlantis at San Diego is three most coaster like of the rides bearing that name and it has a 42 inch requirement.

Tiny correction, Dollywood is one of the 11 other parks that build the exact same ride. Orkanen in Fårup Sommerland was the first in 2013. Dragonflyer was number 6/7.

I will always argue that cheetah hunt is not a family coaster. It's a moderate thrill coaster between family and high thrill.
