As a San Diego/LA native... Cone on man ain't even mentioning Knott's Berry Farm. Xcelerator is easily the best launch in all of Cali and Ghostrider is easy the best woodie in all of Cali. Silver Bullet is a pretty good B&M Invert, Montezooma's Revenge is the only Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop left in the US, and Hangtime is honestly not a bad Gerstlauer Infinity coaster. Plus it's very well themed for a Cedar Fair park, Ghost Town is gorgeous and Camp Snoopy is very well done for a kids land. And if you're ever there, get a Boysenberry Latte from the Starbucks in the park. Also like Knott's pulls the highest attendance numbers in the Cedar Fair chain cause it's a year round park like 6 miles from Disney so like that's pretty notable too I guess.

Growing up in metro DC before SFA was even SFA, Kings Dominion was the closest thing we had to a home park, and it was good, but Busch Gardens *and Hersheypark* were both close enough to be worth going to for an overnight trip. I definitely didn't feel deprived. If you're in Boston and what you care about is top-tier coasters, Six Flags New England is definitely the one to hit, but Lake Compounce and Canobie Lake Park are arguably nicer parks. Compounce has Boulder Dash, the third member of the holy trinity of elite New England coasters, and Phobia, a Sky Rocket II. I also like their waterpark a lot. Canobie (my home park, and the closest one to Boston by far) has a well-kept 1930s woodie and a small Gerstlauer Eurofighter. There are a lot of good flats there and it's also the best amusement park in the area for games and arcades, with a large pinball collection. They both have a lovely small-park atmosphere that Six Flags has mostly drained away from SFNE, though I admit for a Six Flags park it's probably not bad. And then there are the ones further afield. Story Land way up around North Conway, NH is a kiddie park, but they put themselves on the coaster map with a Gravity Group mini woodie that is a raging airtime machine. I have not been to Funtown Splashtown near Portland, Maine, but its woodie Excalibur seems like it's the underrated dark horse in the list of top New England coasters. Maine also has a couple of old-fashioned seaside amusement parks that are minor but look like they have a nostalgic boardwalk atmosphere if you're into that.

If you're feeling crazy, you could assign a particular score/value to every coaster (or just park), have that value diminish with drive-time/distance from the park until eventually reaching zero (maybe by fixed amounts in half-hour or 30-mile increments), map out the area around the park to see how much "coaster value" it brings to key points, then do it with all parks simultaneously to find the ""objective"" best spot to live for coasters. (I suggest doing it by coaster rather than by park, so that the influence of great rides extends much farther out than filler)

New Yorker over here for some advice over New York parks, (American Dream is great for families but thrill? It ain’t gonna it it) one minor park that’s kinda a NY special would be Coney Island. If you’re looking for thrill, it has the original cyclone (As us New Yorkers say, often cloned, never topped) and Thunderbolt, which has some violent laterals but some heavenly airtime and if you’re an airtime person it doesn’t get better than Thunderbolt. They have some non-coasters that still pack a real punch (any zenobio riders down here?) and have a huge team of construction that can build a whole park before six flags makes a single coaster.
