I recently got the Marin San Quentin 3 from my local bike shop, my first REAL mountain bike that's not a department store cheapie. Already sprained my leg going down a horrible local double-black like an absolute imbecile haha! The problem is I just feel WAY too confident on this bike for my skill level, it performs amazing! Definitely going to have to learn some better technique on some milder trails before attempting that again!

I have a Giant Fathom 1. It comes with everything you would need for some aggressive biking except for the fact that the rear caliper is 2 piston. Swap out the grips and rear caliper and you're good to go for some serious riding. I personally swapped the factory Ardent Race tires out for an Assegai in the front and a MInion DHf in the rear because I live in Norcal where the trails are always wet and filled with leaves and debris. I strongly recommend it because it's cheaper than every other bike on this list at $1850 USD and comes with roughly the same components.

I have a Walmart hardtail I got for $300 it has disc brakes and rotors, all the gears and a pretty decent looking frame. I put some WTB double wall wheels on it, some Maxiss tires race face crank Easton bars and a azonc stem. Next is some hydraulic brakes, and I have a fox front shock I have to clean up an rebuild. I own a 2021 Marin San Quentin 3. It’s an amazing all around bike. It’s a 27.5” with 130mm of travel. It rips at the bike park, can have fun at the pump track and DJ’s, and I can hit most enduro trails in Southern California. I went 27.5” because I’m 5’9” and wanted something playful. This bike is most happy at SkyPark bike park. Stock spec is full Deore for $2400.

I don’t know why the Giant Fathom 29 1 doesn’t get more love. At $1850 US it’s a steal. Lifetime frame warranty, tubeless set up, boost thru axle spacing and a solid build kit make it a great choice.

I own a Fathom 29, and I agree. For some reason this bike is commonly overlooked. But if the Rosco and the Fuse are on this list, then the Fathom should be too.
@letsgo_inc Жыл бұрын
I rock a heavily upgraded Fuse and can vouch for it's capability and versatility. I built mine into a strong 140mm trail hardtail that chases down FS bikes on my local trails while still being capable of park and enduro riding. You can set it up single speed because of the sliding dropouts. You could build it up short travel for a "downcountry" hardtail. It is priced steep for sure, and there are more progressive hardtail but unlike other frames...the Fuse can kind of do it all.

As a heavier rider (pushing ~280, 6'2") went with the new Surly Krampus - mostly due to the frame flexibility for larger tires, the feel of steel on the road, and the updated specs vs older models. Its a beast and pretty heavy, but I can transition it to a Bikepacking bike if I get there and get a full sus as a second bike. My only negative is the super short dropper tube.

I got myself the Devinci Kobain, but unfortunately it is a couple years old so mine didn't come with a dropper post & came with Rockshox. Absolutely love the bike...slowly beginning to upgrade components on it, and she just keeps getting better!

About a year ago I bought a Salsa Timberjack. Although I bought just the frame and put what parts I wanted on it.

Best way to do it! Feels so good to pick all the parts and put it together yourself. You know it inside out! Cheers!

@@TopToBottomMTB it's also what I learned. By making my bike from the frame up I learned so much more about my bike instead of just getting a certain package. This is one of the reason I like your video since it talks about frame geometry. I would highly recommend any to work with a bike shop and have them help you build their bike. So much more fun that way for both the customer and the shop.

Looking for advice for my wife to upgrade. She rides a 2021 Liv Tempt 1 on 29's. She is 5'5. She rides green and blues in Cincinnati, OH. Very hill and lots of roots. I ride a 2021 Commencal Meta HT AM w/ 150mm, 29x2.6 Lyrik Ulitmate, Hope Brakes and Shimao XT 12spd groupset. She does not want to do anything crazy but I want to get her a more capable/safer bike. with more travel and slacker headtube angle. Any recommendations? Should I just build her a Meta HT?

Bought a Growler 50, ordered it 18 months ago just picked it up. Interestingly it had Maxxis minion dhf and dhr tires and not the trail boss/vigilante that it says in the specs. Can't wait for the summer!

Also would love to see your opinion on a few european based brands... No pressure of course!!! Thanks in advance! P.S.: The edits in all your videos are phenomenal! Keep up the good work man

I just bought a marlin 6 after not riding for years, I never did any downhill riding or dirt jumping before. I know I'll maybe get laughed at for this comment but it seems like good quality for money for what I need it for.

I have a new niner air 9 aluminum hardtail running 12 speed Shimano xtr. Industry nine trail 1/1 wheelset and magura mt8 brakes. The bike climbs like a goat and plows through almost everything. The only draw back of a 29in is it's not as nimble and quick as my old 27.5

I think that says which bike is the best or better is very difficulty. In my opinion it´s mostly choice of heart or sympathy to the brand. I choice the bike from our Slovak brand, Kellys Gibon 30. It is mid range for 1400€ , have 140 mm rock shox recon silver, 27,5" wheels (can choose 29"wheels), michelin tyres, KS 150mm dropper seat, shimano deore 12s, shimano deore MT410 brakes 180mm front and rear, 2 pistons, 66°head angle and 430mm chain stay in size M ..... great options value for money for me :)

Hey, nice video, I have only done mountain biking once, and plan on doing it more often, as I have a couple of friends that I want to join on mountain biking...I want to get a bike that can help commute to work often to work (3 days a week), take my kid on a ride, but also take it to the trail or mountain, I am planning on getting the Specialized Trevor 3.0 hardtail. what do suggest? is that good option? thanks!!

@@TopToBottomMTB I figured why not go for the 8 you get significantly better specs than the 7 and it’s not that much of a price jump.
