As Symbol Guy said, there were some previous items. It was also said that when Marvel got permission form Samuel Jackson to use his likeness in the Ultimate series, that if they ever made movies based on that, he would get to play Fury. Also, in one of the Ultimate Avengers books, the heroes are sitting around chatting and talking about who they would like to play them in a movie. Fury says only Samuel L. Jackson could do him justice.

Nick Fury is the connective tissue within the MCU. The Winter Soldier really is the film where we get a full fledged Nick Fury story and the favorite moment with Fury is him saying to Rogers "Looks like you are giving the orders now...". Alexander Pierce was loosely based of Alexander Lukin the soviet general who found Bucky Barnes and then brought him back to life and turned him into the Winter Soldier. At one in the comics Lukin becomes a vessel for The Red Skull who takes over his body.

RDJ made hints that he'd have liked Stark to have made at least one appearance, but I guess they couldn't afford him. This seems odd because he was alleged to have struck a deal to get the other Avengers cast more equal pay, which I assume meant he made a slight financial sacrifice. But being that he was the highest-paid actor in history at the time and insuring the continuity that way was a calculated gamble.

Don't you also forget the fact that in the #1 spot of this list before he portrays Nick Fury in Ironman, Marvel Comics ask a permission to Samuel Jackson to use his image for the new look of Ncik Fury in Ultimate Comics version of the character. That was a couple of years before Ironman was aired and beforehand shown the trailer in Comic-con. Imagine what's gonna happened if Nick Fury was casted by a different actor.

Nah Samuel was right. Cuz that was a pretty badass moment. My favourite however was when he hijacked his vacation. The moment I saw his guy near the bus and "We're going to Prague" in my mind I was like "Fury you absolutely genius!" Guy had no choice but to help. He's like a secret parent to him and if he doesn't help he trolls by hijacking it. Dudes a freaking boss! And it caught me off guard cuz I didn't expect it!
