What's going on guys? This is VinylicPuma, back with another Fallout 4 video and today, I figured I would go over 10 of what I think are some of the best Fallout 4 Perks for Beginners, or just some great perks that can be taken early on. Overall, I think you'll find these 10 perks are good perks to start with in Fallout 4!

Here's a little tip to strengthen your character. Do not pick up the 7 bobbleheads related to your stats until you increase that stat to 10 using perk points. if you pick up the strength bobblehead when your strength is at 10 from perk points than your base strength will become 11. if you pick it up before you've increased your strength to 10 with perk points, then your base strength will be no higher than 10. This works for all other six stats in your S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

@@rainygamedays5873 I use it to get strength 12 for melee builds. You can get day tripper in one of the buildings in Concord. Take that to lower your strength from 10 to 8. Open the special book and select strength. Then when it wears off you will have 11 strength. Then pick up the strength bobblehead when you feel powerful enough.

I'm restarting an entire new save for the first time on my PC instead of my consoles. It's a whole new world haha, it looks gorgeous and I have access to console commands and mods. There's still so many new things in finding out years later

Literally the first thing I picked up in terms of perks was rank 1 of scrounger… I heard ammo was tight in this game and thought to myself: “Early game is where the ammo is going to seriously matter. Better get something to off-put my bad shots.” PAID OFF BIG TIME! Instead of 2-3 bullets on enemies. I get at least 8. Which is a significant improvement.

I'm surprised lone wanderer didn't make the list. Rank one available from the door with a charisma stat of 3. +15% damage resistance no matter your build and +50 to carry weight. Picking this perk as your *first* level up is a huge improvement from the door. You can't have a companion at this time anyway except dogmeat until you finish the mission to rescue Garvy and crew. So why not?

@@russellshaw8479 I'd argue the best perk to take at level 2 is idiot savant, if you have 5 luck that is. Regardless of how high your INT stat is, Idiot Savant is ALWAYS worth it.

A couple of honorable mentions I’d like to add: Armorer: While the video did go out of its way to mention that there’d be no crafting perks, this is frankly one that every build should have, even stealth builds that’d make use of ballistic weave instead of proper armor (as sometimes, not getting hit at all just isn’t an option). It unlocks at a strength of 3, which most builds should have no trouble reaching with minimal effort. The only exceptions to this would be if you’re specifically going out of your way to wear something that can’t be fitted with ballistic weave and can’t have armor worn over it (i.e. the Silver Shroud costume). Party Boy/Girl: While requiring heavy investment in charisma (unlocking at 7), Party Boy/Girl is a decent alternative to Strong Back for a build that’s high in charisma but lacking in brawn, or for a melee build that simply wants to max out their damage potential. The first rank makes one completely immune to alcohol addiction and the second doubles the effects while under the influence (so suddenly that Dirty Wastelander you just drank is giving you an extra 6 strength). Even VATS users can get some benefit out of this as the third rank gives you a bonus to luck when consuming alcohol. Medic: Available from an intelligence of 2, even the dumbest builds will have access to this perk after getting the Intelligence Bobblehead out of the Boston Public Library (something most people can do while still in the single digits level-wise if they’re careful). Increasing the curative benefits of Stimpacks and Radaway is, of course, quite the boon (the latter less so in Survival due to the side-effects). Cap Collector: See a legendary that you need for your build at a vendor and don’t want to break the bank (or at least not so hard)? Never fear! Cap Collector is here! This perk unlocks at the very start of the charisma tree, so ANYBODY can use it, and generally just makes buying and selling stuff at vendors that much more profitable. Most builds can get away with only getting the first one or two ranks just fine, but the third one is a decent option if you find yourself playing a high rolling enterpreneur.

If you’re using armourer. Get at least Rank 2… You can get deep pocketed stuff. My current ideal goal for non-legendary armour would be full polymer Deep pocketed combat armour.

I just pump 7 or 8 points into luck to start. The critical banker and better criticals perks are super helpful in the beginning.

11:38 - NOTE: the Scrapper perk simply allows you to get resources from any upgrades/mods attached to weapons and armor that you scrap. The third rank only lets you get back more scrap from salvaging things that you constructed, but don't need anymore. Basically, the third point is a waste. Spend the point elsewhere.

Good vid! I would also suggest for beginners, watch build vids, like fudgemuppet and badcompanysarge. They are fun, but you will outgrow them quickly. I still use them as a framework, but wind up changing half the perks to suit my build. FM's gunslinger is a great example, with such a low intelligence. it would make a lot of sense to get idiot savant as soon as possible.

One more side effect of nuclear physicist, it also applied the duration effect to fusion core in gatling laser : Base 500shots/core, 1000shots/core with nuclear physist maxed & 1100shots/core with perk+repairbobblehead

Lifegiver - provides more HP than endurance can up to level 31 and when maxed out drastically reduces the amount of healing items you need in your inventory, as you can simply heal when out of combat.

Unless I'm doing a specific build, I generally try to get early on (bear in mind I only play Survival); - Water Boy/Girl 1: Allows you to use water as a pathway without rad damage and to fight enemies or escape from them. Also prevents you from drowning if you fall into water while in PA (and if you use a weather mod prevents Rad Storms and Thunder Storms from murdering you). - Scrounger 1/Fortune Finder 1/Cap Collector 1: These are what I like to call "Investment Perks" because they don't have a lot of immediate value, but over the course of a game have immense payout as they'll dramatically increase the amount of Caps you make AND give you more ammo. Even better is that Ammo is more efficient than Water for making Caps (Ammo generates more Caps per lb. than water does) so Scrounger winds up making as much or money than Water Purifiers for you doing no extra work while exploring. You don't need to take all of them but having at least one or two helps. - Black Widow 1: The majority of human enemies in the game are males, so you do +5% free bonus damage against Raiders, Gunners etc. while fighting them. Also most of the hard speech checks in the game are VS. Males, so this helps you pass them. - Scrapper 1: Same as Scrounger/FF/CC, but only if you like crafting or settlement building. Taking this early gives you a lot more materials that you might struggle to get in the early game. - Bloody Mess: Free universal % DMG boost for everything. - Demolition Expert 1+2: Grenades are good! Also, use Molotovs without killing yourself and everyone you love! - Lone Wanderer 1+2: Obviously only if playing Solo, but immensely powerful if you are.

Do you know if anyone has done a comparison between Scrounger and Caps Collector? I've never taken Collector, but with Scrounger I'll loaded with ammo. I find it easier to pick up ammo as I go, rather than loading up at select merchants. Also, after level 20 or so, fusion cores start becoming more common.

After past videos and experimenting , could really agree with this perks. Plus Rank 5 in Strong Back is a boon, if you get stuck in a building and picking it clean... we’d be guilty for doing that, but honestly, it has its use in area where Fast Travel is a no go. Aquaboy/Girl would be good for a quick experience gain with that one small quest in a flooded quarry, plus the bigger bit would be traversing the coast (plus saves some resources)

Hey great video I don't play on a PC but I just play on a console so I think Uncle boys a good one to start out with because it always sucks to walk through water and get radiation damage roustabout when you don't have any right away to get rid of it so I think we're awful boy Aqua girls to Goodwin to get because if you don't know there's a steamer trunk in the lake right next to Sanctuary plus there's also another just down there to it's always good to go in and pick up when you have a good chance and it always will constitutes

Agreed for about 50% of the perks. In about 3,000 hours I’ve only maxed/used Chem Resistant and Chemist three times. I have never used Nuclear Physicist. I would pick Lone Wanderer over Strong Back always. Far better benefits with Lone Wanderer. Adamantium Skeleton is always on my list of best perks. Idiot Savant is worth picking up even though it doesn’t offer much with mid-level intelligence, but at low and high intelligence it’s a beautiful perk. I always get Fortune Finder. There are plenty of caps available but it sure satisfies my loot addiction when every container has something as it will with 4 ranks of Fortune Finder.

so what I managed to figure out is that you can combine the effect of reducing AP drain from strong back and moving target and then with some legendary gear that increases AP regeneration like the nuka cola power armors you can effectively just run around way over weight and not have to worry to much about AP regeneration

so I literally have a suit of legendary armor pieces that have the AP regeneration effect so when ever I clear out a location I just get that gear show back up and collect everything worth my time from weapons to armor to junk, consumables pretty much everything that isn't on the enemies as I always collect that before I leave as to prevent there bodies from despawning and deleting prescious materials so I typically just where a armor that has this effect or my high movement speed armor because I'll admit you really don't need to worry about AP regeneration at all with this set up

Hacker isnt very good because I reached lvl 80 on a new character and I got up to lockpick 3, all of tumblers today and I never tapped into hacker, my game never needed hacker because there is way more safes and things that need bobby pins than terminals that unlock stuff

I'm all about the sneaking and sniping playing style. Never use chems, just sell them for the caps. Never use power armor, no need and I hate it anyhow, again just sell for caps. Anything melee, sell for caps. Everyone has a different playing style, and THAT is why FO4 is so GREAT!

Most all weapons can get exsplosive legendary. And any playstyle benefits from grenade use. Even steslth fails sometimes and sneaking around enemies and littering the area with mines is amusing to say the least. But yeah the irony isnt lost on any mildly experienced player

Ghoulish - High endurance requirement of 9, but more than worth it. The regeneration of rad damage is much faster than Life Giver. It practically negates the threat of Far Harbor's fog, as you will regen about as fast as you're damaged. Being able to duck toward some spilled barrels of nuclear material to heal can get you through the Gauntlet in Nuka World very easily. Ghouls become less of a threat. Some are turned & the rad damage isn't a big deal any more with this perk. Combine this with aquaboy and you'll only need Rad-X/Radaway in sparing doses. That translates to profits when you sell what you don't need. When paired with Life Giver & perhaps the regeneration perk from Astoundingly Awesome Tales #6 (Boston Mayoral Shelter), you're practically Logan. Add in the adamantium skeleton & Pickman's Blade or Throatslicer & go to town, Weapon X.

It's funny, I created a femme fatale character, 9 luck, 9 charisma, 2 int, 1 str, 2 points into the rest. So far it's the easiest playthrough I've ever had. Better even than my go-to Marine build focusing on grenades and rifles. Basically you get lucky hits in vats all the time, lots of caps and random bonuses in boxes, everyone falls over themselves trying to give you a good deal.

Additional hidden benefit of Nuclear Physicist: it makes the Gatling Laser eat up way less of your Fusion Core per reload! Power Armour + Heavy Weapons build greatly benefit from it as such.

Idiot Savant should be #1. It is ALWAYS the first perk I take. Especially at low Intelligence, the extra XP gained is no joke. Also Lone Wanderer, since it works with Dogmeat. Locksmith is a convenience perk, I've done entire playthroughs with it untrained and lost very little. And the nuclear physicist perk is booby trapped at the highest perk level, you even GLANCE at the Alt key in power armor and you start losing fusion cores.

@@edmartin875 Once you have Grim Reaper's Sprint 3, action points in combat are no longer a limiting resource. I like to sprint, I often buy up Endurance to 10 and take associated perks just so I can sprint further.

10. Scrapper 9. Fortune Finder 8. Chem Resist (addictions really aren't that bad but can be annoying, Chemist is SIGNIFICANTLY better) 7. Science 6. Solar Power (rank 1 only) 5. Chemist 4. Scrounger 3. Action Boy/Girl 2. Ninja (that amount of damage increase early game is ridiculous) 1. Lone Wonderer Lone Wonderer is and always will be, regardless of difficultly settings, the single best perk in the game without question. Take it from a guy who relies on it to beat a glitchles speedrun in under 4 hours on survival. Don't need lockpick because I can glitch cage locks with dogmeat and use other companions to rng lockpick non cage locks. All of the perks I listed are actually essentials, the rest of the perks are optional entirely. I'm not speaking on behalf of long playthroughs obviously, merely on a speedrunner perspective.

At this point, you don’t want to play with things that help you if your playing legit no mods vanilla. No explosive effects, no grenades, no locksmith or hacking, no charisma, homeless wanderer type build, no power armor, live off the land type rough it on survival. Is use auto pistols probably until I get a furious splattercannon from NukaWorld or something along those lines. Maybe a no legendary on weapons or armor also type play through. No vats, maybe force your companions to be the dps, you just heal and live, stim them as needed, put them in power armor, repair for them etc…

Find this an odd list to recommend for beginners. Demolition expert is very play specific and only benefit for all players when starting is that this adds to damage from fatman and propelled explosives...wouldn't necessarily see it as a recommendation that new players start throwing grenades all over as this can go wrong very quickly and takes more time/precision to get a kill rather than just shooting them. Nuclear physicist is a HUGE spend as such a late perk on int tree and specific to wearing power armour. Although this could be said to be recommended for a new player to wear power frequently it's certainly not essential. Chem resistant/Chemist are odd choices and also play specific. I'd personally think that 3 perks that benefit any playstyle early on are toughness, lone wanderer and idiot savant. Toughness offers all round damage resistance and improves survivability early on, even 1 point early in lone wanderer is beneficial as dogmeat will be first companion and this adds damage resistance and +50 carry weight (equivalent to 2 points in strong back) and idiot savant benefits XP gain on any build, even if you are at 10 int. The quicker you gain XP the quicker you level and can progress your character. Late game, idiot savant at level 3 for a 10int character using power armour is OP as this procs at 3x XP gain for kills and I'd assume you're going guns blazing and on a killing spree in power armour and so this procs more often. Personally, I feel those 3 perks benefit any build early game and at much lower cost to stat spread overall

I like to take Local Leader early. Charisma requirement can make a character weaker at the beginning but the game almost forces to build settlements and it is horrible without caravans.

I set up a Settlement completely for 20 Settlers with 100 defense before I turn on the beacon. First settler tends the garden, second settler becomes a Provisioner. My garden on new Settlements has 6 of each type of produce for 24 food and requires 4 settlers to tend the garden. I work around what established farms are already producing so that all 7 garden produce types are represented.

demo expert and nuclear work even better with the DLC and you buy the Kiloton rifle for explosion and radiation damage, expensive in perks and high INT required but it does mean you get a high damage ceiling from that investment.

Did I get time warped back to 2015? Anyway... Strong Back is a absolute must once you find out how quickly you get over-encumbered by how much loot this game shits at you. Lacking caps is not really a problem because you can dump off excess loot at vendors and often you'll have more loot than the vendors have caps to buy them. Same goes with ammo, but you can easily get hundreds of rounds of whatever you need just buying ammo when the vendors run out of caps. I would say that you spend as much time running around to vendors to sell stuff as actually shooting and looting. Crafting perks like Armorer, Gun Nut and Blacksmith are useless because you can max out your weapons and armor just by swapping in and out mods from NPC drops. As a side note, by the design of the mods, it appears that nobody at Bethesda has any idea how real weapons work. Locksmith is so-so. Yes it can help access certain areas, but for containers it's pretty useless because all containers contain the same loot regardless of how difficult the lock level is. Almost all the time, a container requiring Master level will have the exact same loot as one that says Novice. In fact, loot in a container is based on player level. After a while, you can guess what's in a container without even opening it: Some ammo, a modded weapon and/or a modded armor piece, some chems, and something made of silver like a pocket watch or a plate. Often you'll have better stuff on you than what's in the container. What you will need is the damage and health perks because as you level up, so do the enemies. You're kind of like on a hamster wheel keeping up with with enemy level until the enemies max out at about player level 50 or so.

The only perks I grab from this list are bloody mess, action boy, and scrounger at around level 30. I play on survival though, and power armor is not very practical so I tend to get perks like toughness, lifegiver, and medic.

I don't see a reason for a bounty hunter since you are the only player in your game. If you are going to cut down a forest you are not going to spend time looking for a certain tree. Now, equate trees to NPCs.

Level 1 - Allows you to breath underwater and get zero rads while in the water. This allows me to cut right across the river/lake, without walking that extra mile or so just to keep my feet dry. Just like walking, if you are overburdened you swim slower but if I am headed to Sanctuary and I'm way down south of town, all I have to do is find the nearest water and can swim almost the entire trip to Lexington without being attacked. If, by chance you do get attacked, Level 2 - makes you disappear when you dive. Just swim to the bottom and continue on your way until you are out of range of the attackers. I have never been attacked in the past 8 years while swimming, so I don't get level 2.
