If your not into Story of Season's style farm sims that is cool and it totally may not be for you, but I think the characters, story and combat can really make the game really fun for someone who likes action JRPG's.

I spent a lot of time playing Trials of Mana this year, abusing NG+ to find all the tiny script changes in different scenarios. It definitely made me smile. And as for Vesperia, I put so much time in that trying to get a ton of different weapon upgrades to power up my characters. I had to actually give that file to my parents because they didn't want to do all the grinding for the final boss. Wheras my save was right there after I'd beaten it myself and I had higher levels and much better weaponry. At least we used the same party (not intended, they just chose the same characters I did even though I never told them who I was going with and hyped up multiple characters).

I've spent lots of time of playing The Zodiac Age on my PS4 and I love that they included GLORIOUS Japanese Voiceacting that we never got. It was also the first time that we in the west got to experience the stuff from the International version of the game that was never released outside of Japan.

In games , and esp anime, I almost always prefer Japanese audio, unless For some reason I am unable to read the subtitle

I love the smoothing effect of the graphics of games like the Final Fantasy titles, really cleaning up the graphics on everything related to enemies and characters. However, when it comes to remasters, I understand that they are trying to add things that will help the game out but to me playing a FF title at crazy speed is not the experience I'm looking for so additions to remasters like that are not advantageous to me. The Grandia remaster, the first one is gorgeous, that game looks sooo good graphically with how they cleaned that one up. Something I think is very important with remakes/remasters are incorporating DLC and this is where the money to buy a game like this really shines, especially for example the Valkyria Chronicles game. There is nothing like having all the DLC, it makes the experience so much more rich, which is why its hard for me to buy games new and get DLC packs too, I always miss something. I legitimately was unaware there was a FF12 remaster, not sure how I missed that. This is a great video, lots to like here, thanks Erick!

A lot of these get released on both the Switch and the Playstation. Something I am always wanting is a comparison between the two versions for those who have both systems and who don't put a priority on using the Switch as a mobile device.

Yea same here. I would assume many fans of Japanese games would own a Switch and Ps4(like us) and it alyways suprises me to see little to no comparisons. Alot of times a jrpg will be on sale only on one of these consoles, and it would be nice to know how all versions run in performance to make a decision (switch portable &docked +ps4/pro)

Xenoblade remaster is a high bar to match, try playing the original then going to the switch version back to back, the visual improvements are night and day

@@DamianS78 Well, SMT III hasn’t been released outside of Japan yet, and they haven’t changed anything outside of graphics, voice-acting, and adding an easy difficulty (which is ridiculously easy to the point of making Buffs and Debuffs almost useless, ruining one of the most unique aspects of the battle system in the first place). They still kept the compressed music (despite the original uncompressed music obviously having existed for YEARS), and the random fusion inheritance has not changed in the slightest. SMT III is a very good game, but the remaster is not a good remaster.

Nah ps4 does 60 fps while xbox and switch is 30fps and you can feel it in an action rpg like vesperia

The Trials of Mana remake was done way better than the Secret of Mana remake. I also enjoyed it more than the original. Mostly do to the combat being quicker. And the English voice acting really didn't bother me. I still haven't opened up my copy of Collection of Mana. 😐 Still waiting for that physical copy of Grandia HD collection to get shipped...Damned covid. There's racing with Repede? Well, I managed to miss that.

I don't think you can really consider a better game to play for Trials of mana because the remake and the original SNES version are just completly different games in style, design and translation. The super famicom original is still very charming and has incredible 16 bit pixel art to enjoy so as a recommendation for hardcore rpgs fans, I would say play both to get the ultimate experience.

I was interested in the Xenoblade series so I got the Definitive edition but kinda got turned off by the battle mechanics, The auto attacks, maybe I gotta get used to it

I'm not sure how far you are into the game but just remember that all of the party members play very differently from each other. Once you start to unlock more arts, you won't be using auto attacks much at all (you'll only use them to fill up the middle ability depending on the character)

It's basically a more in depth ff12 with combos imo. But at least in 12 you get classes, and they don't yell every 5 seconds in combat.

I have grandia collection on switch I also have the remastered Valkyrie on PlayStation 4 and Valkyrie 4 which I have yet to finish grandia originally the first one on the PlayStation long time ago I'm halfway through the first game again on the switch

@@ltb1345 You can also buy them on a PS3, Vita or PSP. The Vita in particular has all Final Fantasy games from I to X-2 and World of Final Fantasy, while the PSP is missing X & X-2 but has Dissidia Duodecim, Crisis Core and a translated Type-0 playable if you mod your PSP.

@@turanx0 Most importantly, PSP has by far the best version of FF4. Steam has the second best version because it's the DS version without the kaizo difficulty. I'm sorry, but when I want to play FF4, I want fucking FF4 and not Bard's Tale 3 or Phantasy Star 2.

One thing I can't stand about FF8 remaster is that the remaster doesn't have analog control . . . but the original DID. There's also some weird music glitches where the fantastic PS1 score gets randomly replaced by the horrible PC midi score.

to be fair the remasters for ff 7-9, well, don't know about 8 and 9, but the ps1 version had bugged magic defense, didn't do a thing, ps4 and switch version, magic defense works now, so that version is the one that was the intended experience, minus the "cheats" that were added in.

My only downside to the Remastered FFVIII is that it's exactly the same as the PC Versions: No Analog Control and Vibration function which was what I liked about the original PS1 Version, same with the Remastered FFIX, but it has Vibration but no Analog Controls. Code of Princess EX has no English Dub!? What if I want to hear Laura Bailey's performance!? 😰 I have the Trials Of Mana Remake on PS4 so far. My only grip about the English Dub is that they ruined Riesz's voice! 😡

Tried Seiken Densetsu 3 for SNES a bunch of times and could never get into it for some reason. Hate the menus and it just feels clunky, or something. Picked up Trials of Mana remake on Switch a while ago on a whim.... pretty cool so far! I usually very much prefer the original retro style, but it's switched for this one for some reason.

I was so so so excited for the Mana remake, bought it day one and called in sick to play it all day. I got bored after a few hours. I hated the boring leveling. The character models were so stiff and dull. And honestly storytelling in RPGs has come a LONG way since this game and they did nothing to update that. I'm glad that you admit that you are dinging Valkyrie a couple of points for being digital-only since that is not in the slightest an issue for me.

Xenoblade chronicles has one the best battle systems in jRPGs, playing it on casual more is a sin! I lost count how many times I reduced my level to keep getting challenging battles, specially in the start of the game.

The AI enhanced background mods for FF7 look really spectacular. It isn't exactly remastering I don't think, but if Square Enix took advantage of that technology they might be able to pull off some slick re-releases of their older stuff.

It is good to note the PS3 versions of Bandai Namco games that were Xbox 360 exclusive ones are the actual finished, intended versions of the games, and the 360 versions are just the result of MS handing them money. So yeah, PS3 versions all day.

Unfortunately, I didn't really care for vesperia. I liked Yuri well enough and enjoyed Judith's playstyle in combat, but I didn't really like anyone else aside from Yuri as a developed character. When comparing it to symphonia and more importantly abyss it just didn't click much for me. I put in enough hours to get to the mech invader part getting closer to the end of the game, quit, and several months later sold it without finishing it.

Sadly i just couldnt get into Alliance Alive!I dont know what it is about the game but the lack of voice acting and those dead soulless eyes were just a no for me.I think my favourites are Xenoblade Chronicles and Tales of vesperia!
