That's true Land Rover spirit. I'm driving a Series 3 1980. Why would anybody need a massage seat in a Land Rover ? It's already there. The whole car is a massage car. Massage for your hands - fixing things ! Massage for your head - listening to the engine while you drive ! Massage for your body - wonderfull vibrations everywhere ! All without electronics :-) Sorry. Can't help with the gearbox but loved the video. Good luck soulmate :-)

I like your videos and usually they are very funny. Always stay calm and now healthy ... Mattew, Germany BTW: At the moment I am checking my large stock of DEFENDER spare parts and taking them into my hands - and I am very happy about it :)

LOVE IT!! I have always had a drive to own one and after many years i went looking and found one. A 1999 TD5 The reasons you mentioned to own one is exactly what i love. I am hands on and i love making things so now i have a car i can do anything to and add anything on. The ride is perfect and a workout. I am learning still on how its put together and all that has been done over the years to her but i love it. Cant wait to make memories while treading lightly. Keep it up and keep well in this difficult time. Regards from South Africa Paul

Great video mate, as mentioned good idea to check your mounts. Do have a look at your universal joints too and condition of your tailshafts, especially the slider.... and its a good excuse to take your grease gun under there while you're at it!

👍 thanks for the advice! The local mechanic's 'second opinion' was a shrug and 'it's not so bad...' However - as you know - you know your vehicle and each squeak and shudder...!

Lekker Video Man!! Change or Check Engine and Gearbox mounts before you rip the thing out. That was giving me a hell of a shudder. On another note, How long has it been since you adjusted your valve clearances? Sounds quite rough but that could just be the sound quality. Good Luck with it.

Why do lots of Defender owners talk on KZbin about modifications,repairs and avoiding getting their vehicle stolen?
@willcowell81974 жыл бұрын
I'm no mechanic but i know my way around a 200tdi reasonably well..like yours mine is also a 110 200tdi with an lt77..a good gearbox but not as good as an r380, you said it "take the gearbox apart" has it ever been rebuilt/reconditioned in its lifetime? If not maybe thats what it needs or replacing with a good reconditioned unit? Expensive but in the long term maybe worth while?
@ASimplyFabLife4 жыл бұрын
I agree! Our old lt77 whines terribly and has that reverse-gear grind... Also, there is a 'plate' over the oil drain plug held in with two screws! Certainly not factory-fit😂. Leaks more than usual as well... I have been on Ashcroft's website a number of times - always with a thin wallet at the time😕. Will have to be done sometime!

It will take you to the Sahara.... And back... With a hammer and a pliers... And an amazing sound. The Defender is an automotive give to mankind, offloading, and over landing. That and the Land Cruiser.

🤘😎 You know how some supercars look like they're going 100mph when they're standing still? Any Defender - even while in your local supermarket parking lot - is actually conquering the dunes outside of Agadez 😀😁

Entertaining video. What can you say about the iconic Defender that hasn’t been said a hundred times? Not much tbh but for all the history and status they are in my opinion the biggest pile of junk ever made and show exactly why the British car industry became such a joke. Noisy, slow, uncomfortable, rust prone, leak at the first sign of rain, unreliable, expensive to run. Apart from that they’re great. Good luck with yours and I’m glad you enjoy it.

My dad owns a defender 90 that he has done nothing on apart from normal maintenance for the past 10-15 years and is still going strong i have owned a defender 110 pick up for 5 years that apart from the lack of maintenance from the last owner has been a grate truck and has no modes and i have driven around twin locked toyatas to pull them out even when they have the same mt tyres. And who gives a shit if they leek i have no carpets
@tonyalways71744 жыл бұрын
Roza i own one too. A 100 Puma Station Wagon. I also own a Hilux. I know how much people love the Defenders but every time I get in my Hilux it reminds me why only enthusiasts buy Defenders. I’m not an enthusiast at all but I was pressured into buying the Defender by my family. I deeply regret succumbing to that pressure and I’ll offload it as soon as this corona problem is out the way I hope. I’m glad you like yours. Try a Toyota and you’ll never look back is my advice.
@ASimplyFabLife4 жыл бұрын
@@tonyalways7174 I get it - and your first comment makes sense...Owning a Defender is a tough one to defend (pun intended). It's not for everyone I guess! As a reference we DID rent a Hilux 4x4 camper for our Botswana trip last November - for the experience - and although we made it through 3000 kms mostly offroad without issues (apart from a pesky check engine light) it was really just an appliance... One point of a Defender is you can have scratches, dents and damage and it's no big deal... 😉😀
@tonyalways71744 жыл бұрын
A Simply Fab Life yep and I completely understand your comment about the hilux being just functional and i guess that’s the heart of the issue. If people want a car that’s quirky, iconic and which they can nurture and mess with then a Defender is a fair choice. A bit like a horse: lovely and will do a great job but jeez it takes a lot of maintenance. Toyota make cars that just work with no fuss- maybe not much style but 100% reliable. As a working farmer I cant waste time messing with a truck that may or may not do its job hence I’m a big believer in the corny adage ‘if you want to go off road buy a Land Rover. If you want to come back again buy a Toyota’. Never a truer statement in my opinion. I know I’ll never touch a Defender again as long as I live (I hope)

@@tonyalways7174 then why are you wasting your time commenting on a Land Rover video?? SMH 🤔
@pinzgauerbelgium4 жыл бұрын
I had one....never again, poor engine power, crappy gearbox, oil leaks everywhere , noisy and like in your video you need a toolbox to take with you will need it.
