I’ve drank bourbon plenty of times in my life, but just to drink. I’ve never sat with one trying to pick out the various notes. So with a bit of curiosity I picked up a bottle of the Michter’s because how you guys ranted and raved over it. I sniffed, sipped, sniffed, sipped. Turns out I’m not very good at it. The only notes I could distinctly pick up were cream, caramel, and vanilla, with a little oak. One bottle later and my wife is bailing me out of jail for allegedly getting into a fist fight with my neighbor’s inflatable Santa. I’m no quitter. Got another bottle ready to go. Any advice?

So I went into ABC Lynchburg,Va. I was directed to Henry McKenna and at the same time bought "Bulleit Rye" and "Virginia Distillery Port Cask". Henry McKenna seemed like too beginner for me. Today after learning more about "Angel Share" from y'all, I bought Jim Beams "Devils Cut". It's like drinking,"Liquid Oak". I love it. I also bought........"The Balvenie:14yr Carribean Cask". I understand why it costs more. Smooth and the toffee advertisement was no joke. Thank you for setting me up to be a more mature Whisky(ey) drinker. However I have not seen that particular Henry McKenna bottle before. Peace and love Wisky(ey) Generals. Lol Chris

I still like Jim Beam very much more than anything else I’ve tried and here’s my argument: I am a scotch drinker; when I am in the mood for bourbon I am just looking for a simple, smooth bourbon with clear vanilla and caramel taste. I am not looking for any subtleties or complexity, cause in this world Scotch wins. Bourbon to me is the other side of the asile, sweet and straightforward.

1792 Small Batch is one of my favorites for on the cheap side. I’m no bourbon connoisseur, but it’s delicious to me with be sweeting yet the right mix of spice. Unfortunately it’s been getting closer to the $30 mark, when you used to be able to get it for $25 easy. Great video fellas!

Great channel, keep it coming guys. The 1st time I drank Eagle Rare I thought it was a fine sipping rum it’s so delicately sweet, but as you say, not so much it defies bourbon. That’s not to say all fine rum is sweet, some are clean and sharp and more like cognac. In my opinion, rums vary the most of any spirit in flavor and profile, but that’s a different story. I got 4 bottles of Eagle Rare from a famous outlet store for $27 per and thought I’d won the lottery! The Four Roses is wonderful and stepping up to the single barrel version is worth it, but I’ve seen the bottle you reviewed for under $30 and that’s all one can ask for. Elijah Craig barrel strength is just as you described and might offer every thing a bourbon can be without favoring one flavor profile over another. Maker’s is just boring for me and over marketed, but to each their own. Buffalo Trace is of course, classic. Of them all, Four Roses (more so the single barrel version) is best overall, Buffalo Trace, then Elijah. It’s difficult to rank Eagle Rare because it defies bourbon a bit (I know I said it didn’t, oops) and it is dangerously delicious. it is the absolute smoothest sipping, digestif candy bourbon that I often enjoy in replacement of dessert. I like drinking my dessert. Cheers!

I'm so glad to have found your channel this week! My mom introduced us kids to Wild Turkey 101 when she was making hot totties for us when I was a teenager. Gave us all a half a shot for shits 'n giggles. I'm the middle kid--shy, socially awkward, and adverse to risks. So when I reacted with, "Yum! Tastes like popcorn!" amid siblings hacking and gagging, her response was, "You're not supposed to like it!" Apparently Wild Turkey was her go to throughout the 80's--she was a logger/bartender/restauranteer. It's all I drank for the last decade. Now I'm branching out and trying the whiskey world, and I love finding content to steer me in one direction or another. Because risk aversion. ;P

Interesting to hear different perspectives. The Mash and Drum says to reach for Four Roses small batch if you are looking for something more spicy and less sweet. You guys say what's notable about it is its sweetness.

Just found this channel a week ago. You guys are great. Sometimes drunk, sometimes starting your buzz, always entertaining. For the record, Woodford is #1 on my budget/go to list, tho I don't really like the finish. It 'flattens out' IMO. Still tops on my list tho. Stoked to see you guys in favor of Builett Rye (I've seen your opinions in other vids). I don't like cinnamon,whether food or booze, but BR has a cinnamon aspect/bite to it and I love it. Discovered it on a whim. Isn't that how it always happens ?! Lol. Keep up the good work. I'm a fan.

I like just about everything on this list except Bulleit. I like Bulliet Rye but I don't like Bulliet Bourbon. My replacement for Bulliet for an everyday budget bourbon would be Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage. Even though I live way out in B.F.E.it's easily available and runs between $25 and $30 a bottle, which is what I look for in a budget bourbon.
@seanmurphy266 жыл бұрын
Dude, Bulleit Rye is so good, that they had to throw their Bourbon on the list, to include their legitimacy. Good call on that Bulleit Rye

Currently trying to work out what I might like in terms of alcohol, having lost my father and his wealth of experience 2 months ago, beyond my existing favourites. Really like this channel and, given vids like this, the surrounding community. So I was just wondering Bourbon and Whisky wise (maybe even more broadly) what might be things I should try given I like Amaretto, Benedictine, Cointreau, Dimple 15, Drambuie, Glayva, Grand Marnier and Southern Comfort? Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve (Standard and Double Oak), Maker's 46, Wild Turkey Rye, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Wild Turkey 101 and Longbranch are all, locally, in my 'acceptable' price range - if that helps.

Great video. I started drinking Buffalo trace about three years ago. It had been my go to bourbon for a couple of years. Now my go to is Russell's 10 year. Haven't had any of the other Bourbons on that list but I think I got to go out and get another bottle of buffalo trace. I've tried half a dozen or so Bourbons. Rowan's creek. Noah's mill, deckles eight year bourbon, and I was lucky enough to score a bottle of old Rip van Winkle on Christmas Eve last year. Just got a bottle of four roses smallbatch today. I'll be checking you guys out thank you.
