Nowadays I don’t even know what “clean” actually means… and I hate seeing the word toxic/non-toxic! Toxicity is all about dosage! Also, the products often come up with a list of “free of” ingredients, meanwhile what they really contain ain’t necessarily harmless! I hate skincare marketing!

Years ago, I was definitely victim to “clean beauty” and messed up a routine that was working for me in favor of “clean” products. I also fell into the HA trap. I had two products full of it in my routine, and my facial skin was literally peeling off in huge chunks.

As a copywriter, I can say that many of these claims violate FDA and FTC guidelines for advertising claims. For example, saying something erases dark circles would be a drug claim, meaning that product would have to go through the drug approval,process to prove said claim. So many brands overstate things either because they aren’t aware or think they can get away with misinformation.

I think they are required to have that asterik tho to save their asses like “this product is not meant to cure or treat an illness” or something like that but i agree its VERY MUCH horrible advertising. Very grateful for Dr Idriss. I will stop my love affair with collagen products

i'm not a derm, just a passionate consumer, but i think that an "already aged" skin is skin that went through life, skin with lines from smiling at your kid, kissing a significant other, frowning when they try to be a smartmouth, and laughing your butt off. it shows that you have lived and they tell your story. as far as supporting your skin in its journey goes, the key products i've seen mentioned are sunscreen, retinol, peptides and hydrators. I hope you find something that works for your needs and wants!

Being an older woman (68) and trying to battle years of skin neglect, in general, and drooping pores and wrinkles (way past the fine line stage), I have been following Dr. Idriss' information and find it so beneficial. That said, I have been following her influence to do some deep diving into how to increase collagen to help plump up the underlying structure of the skin ("Who doesn't want more collagen"). I came across the following information from a study and would love other's opinions on if I'm interpreting the study correctly. In a nutshell, over the years I have used Vital Proteins powder additive to my morning coffee (off and on) and have never really experienced any improvement. I'll link the study below, but what I got out of it was: caffeine inhibits collagen synthesis in skin. So, adding it to my morning (caffeine loaded) coffee is most likely cancelling the effect I was after. Additionally, digging deeper into the Vital Protein powder, it claims to contain 8 of the 9 essential amino acids. Okay, why not all 9 (logical question on my part)? It's missing tryptophan ... most commonly the cause of dozing off after the Thanksgiving bird. But Milk and chocolate syrup do contain a small amount. So, as an experiment, I've changed to decaf coffee and tea, still use the Vital Proteins in the morning cup and am enjoying a large cup of warm milk/chocolate syrup in the afternoons. I guess only time will tell if there's any improvement, but wonder what others might think about the caffeine/collagen aspect. @@SueRosalie I am using a Retinol product that Dr. Idriss recommended, but bear in mind ... I'm 68 yrs old. So acne, etc. is no longer an issue. Plus, the only highly rated dermatologist in my area I went to once ... never again. Even though I specified I wanted the appointment with him, got there and only could see one of his 'assistants' who assured me the answer to my concerns was just some filler. Ended up looking like a chipmunk hording nuts for a good 2 weeks. I might try tretinoin if it was OTC but don't really want to go the prescription route. At my age, I don't expect miracles and may not have enough lifespan left to use it slowly for 10 years.

I got so overwhelmed with the whole skincare biz and how every time we turn around theres another ingredient that everyone is saying is a "must have" in your routine. It started making me depressed. I am def no doctor but what I can tell you from my own experience is to keep it simple. I get tons of free product from high end brands but my favorites are still sold at Wal Mart and drugstores.
