🚀 f a q
• Can you review my book?
I’m always happy to hear about upcoming books, but I’m afraid I don’t review self-published books and can only accept a small number of books for review. I enjoy reading classics, dystopian/apocalyptic novels, sci-fi, translated fiction and a variety of graphic novels, YA and contemporary literary fiction.
• Where is your accent from?
I was born and raised in the Netherlands, studied English Lit at Leiden University (also in the Netherlands), studied in the US for 3 months and have lots of American friends. I'm definitely not Irish or Canadian, I promise!
• Where do you live?
I live in London and have been here for 6 years now.
• How did you get into publishing?
I did publishing work experience, did a lot of networking and learned everything I know about social media from creating and running this channel. (P.s. You don't necessarily have to study Publishing or English to get a job in publishing!).

That sounds like a really interesting one! I did something called: books, book shops and publishing, which was pretty fun. I really enjoyed my course 'From Gutenberg to Gates', which was just a series of lectures about the history of books and one course called 'The Book Historian at Work' which included us going on a tour through my uni city to visit an old library and we had to do research in the city archives.

Lovely selection! It makes me want to read them all. One of my resolutions this year is to definitely read more. My favourite book of 2012 was probably Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. It just blew my mind - incredible writing style and such a captivating story.

Awesome top 10 :) I've started reading Scott Pilgrim in 2012 too and I'm loving it, especially the way it blends surreal/fantasy fiction and everyday realism; I love Eugenides, though I much prefer his second and especially third novel (if you still haven't, you should totally read The Marriage Plot :) ); Kerome is of course incredibly funny and well, The Day of the Triffids is one of my favorite sci-fi novels of all times :)

Whoa, Day of the Triffids -- you *never* hear people talking about that anymore! DotT is one of the books that most planted the seeds (pun intended, heh-heh) for the modern post-apocalyptic story. (You can draw a straight like from Triffids to 28 Days Later, for instance.) I think the only other book that had as much influence on the genre is Richard Matheson's I Am Legend, which I can't recommend highly enough. Have you read? Great video, and thank you for sharing your list with us! Mike

Never Let Me Go was the first book I read in 2013 and I'm already pretty sure it's going to be one of my favourites for the year. The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent&The Hunger Games! This year I kinda started to get into English books. I primarily bought a lot of (English) books. So didn't read as much this year. I pushed myself to finish reading New Moon which took me quite awhile. Nothing really happened, I found. But I enjoyed it anyway. I also enjoyed TFiOS very very much. Loved it!
