I know! The first two seasons gave the main love story time to breathe. This season there were too many subplots and Fran's love story deserved its own season.

The problem with that was it was a copy-paste of the Kate and Anthony first meeting, meaning they would have had to replace it with something else. Often Quinn recycles the same sort of thing over and over again.

Definitely wanted more Polin time. I think the lack of flashbacks and, honestly, actually seeing Colin’s realization about loving Pen as Whistledown rather than him just telling us about it, hurt the romance of it all. There were a lot of moments where Colin had to say things that would have been better if they’d been shown.

I agree. The gender change was not necessary and how the character was introduced was wrong. Not honoring the book but someone else's desire for the character. A lot of people were unhappy about it, especially fans of the book. Research was lacking for that statement.

I would've loved to see a greater emphasis on Penelope and Lady Danbury's friendship because in the books she is one of the only people who recognises Pen's intelligence and kindness, and would've given her an outlet since her friendship with Eloise was strained

With all respect to all the other couples in the show, and for that matter the actors in general, but the explosive chemistry between Nicola and Luke is so palpable that you could have had the two characters sit down and read a phone book (yes, I know they didn’t exist back then) and I would have watch their interactions. There was a breakdown of the three seasons main couples screen time in their specific seasons (SN 1-113 min, SN 2-89 min, SN 3-78 min) and it is easy to see that Netflix was worried that people would take issue with a full figured woman getting a love interest. So much so that they made as many side stories (side stories by season: SN 1-6, SN 2-8, SN3-11) as possible to attempt to make everyone else happy. For them to fat shame or even to, appear to be fat shaming the most beautiful and sensual actress in the cast is reprehensible to say the least. Also, the following stat if no other will shock most: Colin and Penelope interacting with one another on screen during season 3 - 16.1% of the total screen time of the season. Of the three main couples so far, Colin and Penelope should have been the couple with the most interaction time due to their prior friendship, connections between the families, and simply the proximity of their homes for god sake! However the season 1 couple had the most one on one time at almost 22% of the screen time. To me, the everyday interactions between them without dramatic high stakes are the scenes that mean the most to me. It reveals to me how they show their love on a daily basis that warms the heart. As the biggest slap to the face to the book fans, they made Colin into a bandwagon guy! The writers have him standing in the crowd during Pen’s speech to the ton to see how it goes before he decides whether to have her back! If that were my wife I would have rushed to her side the minute the queen fingered her as Whistledown. If she turned to me and said, I got this and walked forward to the center by herself then I would have respected her wish and waited there. But if she gave me a nod to go with her or held my hand and it was clear she wanted me up there to stand behind or beside her, you bet your ass I would have. Instead he waits till TWO other people go talk to her first (Lady Danbury, then Pen’s mom) then decides that people are okay with it enough to talk to her…. REALLY? Anyway, Polin didn’t get fair treatment and Colin got written as a weeny in the end. Netflix better feature Polin in season 4 or I will be done with the show, because you don’t leave the kind of chemistry on the floor in editing or scenes cut in the writers room due to fat-shaming.

I'm find with the gender bend of Michael to Michaela. My complaint is with Francesca's reaction. I am afraid that the storyline will go in the direction of Fran realizing she didn't love John. I think that is so sad. I love the idea of exploring another love after a death of a spouse. Yes they are exploring that with Violet, but to negate the love with John is sad.

Polin is my fave. A 3-5 mins make up session to recover from the time they lost. They only gave us 35 secs and instead a montage of benedict 3some.

No, we are not all for gender bending, specially in Francesca´s case where it makes no sense/comes out of nowhere and it´s just for clout and coin, instead of scraps, what I would love to see is new queer characters who are well developed and with their own journey to love told from the start ...and preferably not only shown in endlessly boring 3 somes

Francesca being gay is so weird. From season 1, I thought it was building up to eloise being gay. I thought eloise might have had a crush on Penelope or something like that. Out of all the Bridgerton siblings I thought Ben was going to be bi and eloise was going to be a lesbian.

It’s funny I think the exact opposite. I think in the books Bridgerton men are quite problematic. For instance Colin is a bit mistrating to Penelope (grabbed her arm, silent treatment etc) and the side characters agave no personality in thé books (Mrs Featherington is just an awful mother to penelope for no reason) I really enjoyed the books but I enjoy the show as a différent material.

Yup. They dropped the ball so hard and so far, that I don't think I'd be able to watch season 4 or the rest of the series. I'm kind of disappointed and I felt like the marketing gaslit us into thinking that it was good. Where was the "rom-com" elements and the stuff from the books💀? Like be for real. The execution was poor and why am I romanticising a season that is supposed to be "romantic"? Where was that, girl?

​@@pettybee3860 Although it's kind of ridiculous to take something to adapt and make something different, I am usually down with some changes if the spirit of the original is there. Books are books, TV show are TV shows, what works for one won't necessary work for the other. Season 3 commited two cardinal sins for me. Firstly, it was just boring. For a rom-com it was neither romantic, nor comedic, nor something else or some other feels what so ever. Just people stirring up drama for the sake of drama but without anything in it. Secondly, they did change the spirit of Francesca story. It would be just miles better if Michaela visibly fell for Francesca on their first meeting not the other way around. I do believe that the want to be a mother (infertility struggle) can one way or another be addressed even with gender swap. But the Francesca falls for Michaela thing cheapens the grief story so much it kills it

I wanted Penelope and Lady D friendship. I wanted Michael to see Fran and he has a loss for words. I wanted Colin to confide in Daphne and a flashback to Polin first meeting. I wanted pen walking to Bridgerton teas and colin joins her and a dance. I love this show so much, BUT the books conveyed so much more romance. I do however love seeing more Violet and having a backstory for Lady D. And let's not forget Anthony's "LILACS! Earlobe? EARLOBE!"

I’ve never read the books of Bridgerton but am extremely familiar when a book I loved becomes a movie and is Nothing like I read. I am also familiar that authors give their blessings to alter passages from the books to screen. It happens multiple times and going to continue to happen. I said all of that to say this, stop complaining! The author Wrote it and have every right to Agree to the changes! Heck, I love my authors and appreciate their work ❤

Switching michael to Mikaela was a HUGE mostake. They ruined the whol show, and many people will not be returning. You want to make a show about same sex couples start a new one or add charachters that are not main. Leave the books alone.

Have you read the book? Some core elements of the story would have to be deleted if Michael is Michaela. Women cannot inherit property in 1800s Regency period. No IVF in 1800s, etc. so all those parts gone. That changes the whole story. Not sure how the show version can have any parts of the book version so it seems as if it will be a whole other story. And Michael fell for Francesca upon first meeting not Fran falling for Michaela two days after marrying John. Even that destroys the Fran/John love storyline. So it is what is is. Show can obviously change it how they like but don’t see how they are going to keep any of book story which is so beloved. Only names of characters will remain and Michael was an awesome character. It is now just a Based on Bridgerton story.

On a light note - biggest flop of S3 was LN’s terrible wig - stood out like a sore thumb and was so distracting. On a bit deeper note (but still, it’s entertainment) - as a longtime book reader I have had to simply resign myself to the fact that the Shondaland series is ‘based on’ JQ’s books and are not meant to be an exact depiction of. As I didn’t care for The Duke and I (book), I didn’t have high expectations of S1 and wasn’t disappointed. I’ve also only watched S1 - once. As TVWLM and RMB are my two favorite books in the series, I can list many irksome changes in S2 and S3, but again, I’ve decided not to dwell and enjoy them for what they are (superb casting,beautiful scenery/sets, wonderful costumes, and fabulous music). Yes, many of the big changes from the books are annoying and unnecessary, but so be it. I do have to say, tho, it would be nice to have more time for the main characters each season and less of the side stories. I find myself ffwding sometimes - as I also ffwded the cringey Colin brothel scenes (like WHY?). 😬
