One thing I would think about when looking at the larger Leatherman versions is will you ever use some of the tools and do you want to be carrying around a very heavy one. A family member was given one of the bigger ones as a gift but would rather have one of the more basic ones for EDC. Great in a vehicle or whatever but maybe not if they're on your belt or in a bag you carry. One thing that would make my top ten gift list would be a decent head torch as they can be used regularly and are great if the power goes down or you're stuck on the side of the road at night. One thing I saw recently from over your way is a ferro rod with a wax cord attached. You strike the rod setting the cord alight and then use it like a match. Once your fire is going you pull the cord back into its holder and it's extinguished. Made making a fire in this manner way way easier and more reliable imo. Might have to get me one.

@@oldbloke204 edc in the uk it’s easier to justify carrying a multi tool like this than a single knife :/ :/

Forest fundamentals make a decent version of the ferro rod with the waxed jute .

I agree. An instant power box from nothing is a good idea. I've been waiting for a good one that wasn't a peddle unit.

A good present might be... 1. To agree to follow you on your journey through to the next year. Agreeing to the sometimes very odd purchases with a book that is ticked off as you go. And when the chequebook of (say) 10 purchase, only then do ypu need to stop. 2. A well thought out, load of sweet treats and puddings to add to your stores. All will last and can be consumed each week as you go, and can simply be a reminder for you both to pick up some more of the 'good' custard rather than the cheap stuff. 3. Some board games that one agrees to play with the prepper over the long winters' nights. 4. A live turkey... or goose or chicken, your prepper friend has to butcher it. But you will do the rest. 5. A sheepskin overthrow or rug. And if you can afford or find one, a horned helmet. The prepper is 'Lord for a Day'. This will show their true leadership qualities, and if they don't resonate, you can leave BEFORE SHTF 😂 Cheers 🇬🇧
