The thing with the Gem Knight FTK that I never understood with the way Konami handled it is that I feel it would have just been easier to errata Lapis Lazuli to have a hard once per turn on the burn damage effect cuz that way, it lets them have all of the other parts of the FTK unlimited since the FTK just...wouldn't exist anymore
@tootsie_2 жыл бұрын
Errata text would require a reprint, which would mean that they'd need to justify it taking up a spot in a set. If Gem Knights get more support then that could happen, but updating the banlist is just easier. That is a big reason why the banlist exists.
@onadaTotihotiH2 жыл бұрын
@@tootsie_ I’ve always been of the opinion that any time something causes multiple other cards to be banned/limited, then that card should be dealt with instead of those other ones it affects because they can generally be used perfectly fine in other situations outside of the interactions with that card, so depriving strategies and stuff outside of that interaction of a good card feels like a net loss

Stellarknight Constellar Diamond is the weirdest card, I swear. Everyone thought it was gonna be, and it was a safe bet at the time for it to be called *Constellarknight Diamond*
@Spirit_of_Yubel2 жыл бұрын
At this point, I wonder if it's also a case of "Target Parameters" as well. There's some that say it's a translation thing, and I buy it. But on the other, I think the name leaves it open to be comboed with other cards that call for those in the specific archetype. Like, if something calls for a "Constellar" card, boom, Stellarknight Constellar Diamond still fits the bill. Plus, saves them from having to add an additional "This card is treated as a "Stellarknight" and "Constellar" card." for the effect.
@tonberryking422 жыл бұрын
@@Spirit_of_Yubel As per X-Sabers, MX-Sabers, XX-Sabers, D/D, D/D/D, Tellarknights, and Stellarknights, Constellarknight would still satisfy everything that calls for Stellarknights and/or for Constellar.
@Spirit_of_Yubel2 жыл бұрын
@@tonberryking42 I mean, the OCG treats "Celestial Sword - Eatos" as a "Noble Arms" archetype card by the name alone. Roughly translated, Celestial Sword - Eatos reads as "*Holy Sword* of the Goddess - Eatos", which indirectly causes it to fall in line with the other "Holy Sword" equips of the Noble Knights archetype, despite Eatos' Sword being square in the "Guardian" archetype. Which is why, for whatever reason, Celestial Sword - Eatos has the TCG Archetype Condition effect, "(This card is always treated as a "Noble Arms" card.)" despite not actually being one. Plus, unless stated in the card text itself, or a proper new sub-archetype was established, Judges *Could* rule that "Constellarknight" being one word is enough to disqualify it from being affected by anything that affects Constellar *AND* Stellarknight as a whole. So yeah, naming convention is still important.
@tonberryking422 жыл бұрын
@@Spirit_of_Yubel which would fly in the face of *literally all* precedent in both modern and pre-modern card text, and even pre-psct. Eatos' sword, and a few others, have the condition text treating it as a Noble Arms because their OCG name contains the same characters and reading for the Noble Arms. If anything, Eatos' sword is more precedent that WOULD allow Diamond to be called Constellarknight.
@Spirit_of_Yubel2 жыл бұрын
@Laughing Luna I'm saying that the text of Satellarknight Constellar Diamond is already really bloated, so an Archetype Condition effect would have been too much for the card. So in order to ensure it's clearly defined as a set of specific Archetypes, better to do it with the name without bloating the effect text any more than it needs to. Meanwhile, Celestial Sword - Eatos was shown off in the anime-only arc "Waking The Dragons", and was clearly defined as a part of the "Guardian" archetype for years when the "Noble Arms" archetype wasn't even a thing as a whole. Yet when it finally got made and released years later, Celestial Sword - Eatos was given an Archetype Condition effect to an Archetype it has nothing in common with.

It's less the Creature Limit, and more the Fact that YGO has neither Resource nor Summoning Sickness Mechanics. The game is just infinitely faster than Magic, to the point an average Duel doesn't last more than 3 Turns nowadays. Notice for instance how he points out that Trap Cards in general are considered slow in the Metagame simply for not being able to be played *right after drawing them* because against the average Opponent, they genuinely don't stay that long on the Field. Things like this, coupled with the fact that YGO also has no Resource System like Mana means everything that is remotely designed to be a Win Condition NEEDS to have so much Protection, because of how easy it is to just have tons of removal and / or negation primed on Turn 1. For related reasons, YGO is also a lot more "aggresive". Unlike MtG where you try to play Cards as late into your Turn as possible to minimize potential impacts of your Opponent countering, here you instead WANT to dump out everything as fast possible, simply so that you have as much Counterplay ready for your Opponent before they get to do basically *anything*
@iBloodxHunter2 жыл бұрын
@@agitpolat1061 It's not that at all, the reason a game lasts three turns is because half of your cards get negated I mean you point that out but you make it seem like cards having haste is what makes it so fast.

This opens up the idea for a similar list; archetypes that mostly or entirely focus on retraining or supporting cards from many other archetypes. It's especially interesting how cards can (try to) make it worth your while to carry an archetype-specific card unrelated to the rest of your deck just to pull off its combo

Each of them has an Effect designed to mesh with one other specific Archetype they are linked to in Lore (although they aren't mentioned in the Card-Text), like Shield for Mekk-Knights or Crown for Crusadia.

The spellbook one was a bit of a technicality but sure

A mention of my favorite archetype, Infernity? Yes!!!!! I love playing them back then when they're in their terrifying prime. To unleash a a devastating handless combo that results in unleashing such boss monsters such as Trishula as an example is awesome!!!

Nice list mang, it must've taken a bit of work finding all these really specific cards. Edit: Skillshare also has reading courses and courses on words, languages, and pronunciations.

I like this list because it features a lot of cards we haven’t seen appeared on the other lists.

8:20 Stellarknight Constellar Diamond is a Constellar because duel terminal lore. Tellarknights are descended from Constellar, Nekroz from Gishki, Ritual Beast from Gusto, Infernoids and Qli both involve Naturia Sacred Tree, Shaddolls are all corrupted duel terminal monsters like Naturia Beast being Shaddoll Beast , it's just a whole mess of lore lol
@yaroubthayer-7522 жыл бұрын
Tellars/Constellars and Ritual Beasts/Gusto makes perfect sense, they’re basically the same artwork as well. Nekroz/gishki is just stupid tho

I hope there's a part 2 or for those that somehow are more like extended family to each other, like gaia the fierce knight being part of the original chaos archetype even getting a chaos monster in it's own archetype, dark magician because of dark calvary & because of it; now its like a cousin to blue-eyes because of chaos form connecting blue-eyes, dark magician & bls/chaos, red-eyes thanks to dragoon, & kuriboh joining thanks to magikuriboh & ankuriboh, basically the dark magician, blue-eyes, red-eyes, gaia, chaos, & kuriboh archetype being connected, awkward family reunion

I love your videos because they are some kind of chill and stimulating at the same time. Why don't you do a video about "best cards that work if you have 3 copies of them"

Spellbook magician of prophecy is technically also a "Magician" monster, but I don't know if non-pendulum magicians monster count as an archetype
@enlongjones23942 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, all “Magician” support only works on Pendulum monsters, to prevent issues with cards like Dark Magician.
@nicosanchez82612 жыл бұрын
That's being very technical but counting spellbooks and profecy as 2 archetypes also is.

Tellarknight Constellar Diamond is part of both archytipes because of Card Lore reasons. It's the last Constellar monster after all the others got wiped out and now works with the Tellarknights, who are reincarnations/successors to the Constellars.

Worth mentioning that C107 was errata'd to focus on the field with its negation and prevention effect. Also Raiders Knight makes summoning Arsenal Falcon much easier which is a free either Ultimate Falcon or Final Fortress Falcon, meaning Raiders Knight is a cheap route to 2 Towers monsters on top of everything else it can do.

There is a card released that is the Orcust Knightmare of the Tearlaments and Kashtira archetypes, the aptly named Tearlaments Kashtira. This card would easily take #1 on an updated list. It can quick effect mill cards from the deck to GY (Tearlament) while is a Level 7 with an easy Special Summoning condition that is searchable by Fenrir (Kashtira).

(Cards that seem good at first glance but aren't really that good. Top 10 parody cards. Top 10 cards based on other Konami games. Top 10 special conditions in the games. More Rescue Rabbit, please.

Fun fact: Winged Kuriboh LV6 is part of 6 different archetypes ("Winged Kuriboh", "Kuriboh", "LV", "Elemental HERO", "HERO", and "Favorite"). This is more usable archetypes than any other card in the game. Some cards are members of more than 6 archetypes, but no more than 5 of them are usable. "Number C39: Utopia Ray" (and all "Number C39" monsters), "Number C62: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon", and "Number C107: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon" are each members of 7 archetypes, but their membership in the "Number" (Spell/Trap archetype) and "Chaos" archetypes have no functional effect as the support for those archetypes is exclusively for Spell/Trap Cards (outside of the field) and Synchro or Ritual Monsters, respectively, so they are effectively only members of 5 archetypes each.
