Thirty years ago I used Abeka. As I got futher along I did a lot of mixing of different things. We never did online anything. The best things we ever did was teaching typing, music lessons, team sports, and speech lessons.

Great video! I wanted to add my thoughts. We have used TGTB for 2 years now, level K, and Level 1 and we will be using Level 2 this coming year. I don’t use this curriculum to teach my child the Bible. I use the Bible to teach the Bible. We also love The Answers books for kids by Ken Ham. I will say that there are plenty of references of the New Testament throughout TGTB curriculum, whether it’s LA or Handwriting. TGTB has worked very well for us and my daughter loves it! It is affordable and it is easy for me to teach! We have used BJU Press for Spelling and it is great! I love that they incorporate the Bible in their workbooks no matter what subject, however buying an entire grade level for our family on one income would be very hard! It is a solid company though and I never rule anything out! Thank you for insight!!

Hi Brandy, thanks for commenting. I guess my problem with TGATB is if one uses it but not with the intentino of teaching the Bible because they think it doesn't have much good teaching from the good book, the curriculum shouldn't call itself a 'Christian' curriculum. It would then be a secular curriculum. I guess it's just false branding. I don't have a problem with the 'educating' side in a way - but then again, shouldn't our education be all about teaching our kids to love God? And if so, why TGATB? Totally no judgement though on what you use. They're your kids and it sounds like you're a great mom. There are a lot of affordable programs out there though that are Christian like Masterbooks and Generations...even Easy Peasy which is free. But up to you! God bless dear friend.

I can't use The Good and the Beautiful with a clear conscience. I don't want to support a faith that is spreading literal lies about Jesus and the gospel and I was SO pleasantly surprised to see your take on the curriculum because so many of my homeschool mom friends love it! I think when you know something, you can't unknow it lol it's just there. That's me with TGTB. There's an interview on youtube with this ex mormon woman and she's the one that convinced me. They have an agenda, why support them when there are SO MANY wonderful other curriculums to choose from! "Discernment isn't knowing what's right and wrong, it's knowing what's right and almost right."

The idea that children can simply be put onto software and learn without interacting with parents/adults or other children is worrisome. Screens have various detrimental effects on attention and focus which parents need to be aware of. Screen time definitely has a negative impact on reading/literacy. Many things children are no longer learning cannot be done on screens, like cursive, spelling/morphology and various aspects of communication. Parents or other older people must be involved in the "leading" of children's minds in person.

What do you think about Christian Light Education? I’m currently full Abeka, but looking at other options and I’ve heard a little about CLE. Not sure how it stacks up though!
@killuaxkillua23846 ай бұрын
I’m using Christian light for kindergarten and it is very simple, the subject aren’t really separated they’re combined into a single lesson being used together. I haven’t used it for any other grade levels and this is my first year but I like how it’s not hard to complete a lesson with a 5 year old boy who doesn’t want to sit still haha. I do find at least at first it could almost be used for a pre schooler. We’re several booklets in and my son already can count to 12 easily but this is very slowly and repeatedly introducing 1-10 so far. But if gentle, slow, and simple to teach us the goal with lots of simple activities and little stories with questions that have to do with God then I really do like that about it.

Abeka also offers DVD options and you mention that you can use the BJU DVD’s over and over again. This is not quite true. When you choose the DVD option with BJU the DVD’s aren’t yours to keep. You are only renting the DVD’s and must be returned. It is also worth noting that Abeka also allows you to not have to sit down and teach your children. The quality of the information taught is excellent.

@natalyashokur19964 ай бұрын
Hi. Yes, DVD are to be returned and they are not in the greatest shape too which makes it harder to use. High School classes are pretty hard and not much math you can find offline to learn on your own. It takes more that 7 hours a day. Add PE and lots of Bible verses to learn which is good but not everyone can keep up with that program. And definitely not cheap especially if you have more than one child. I don't think TGTB are hiding anything for anyone to think they need to be called out. They are light on Christian doctrine (which I appreciate because I am of a different faith than Jenny Philips) but all that is mentioned is sound. I believe TGTB's strong point is on Christian moral character and the importance of reading sound, highly moral and intellectual books for kids. But for the sake of this videos title I guess you can say that it's weak in doctrine but not in Christian character. 🤷🏻♀️
@beloved-14 ай бұрын
@@LoreLovesFamilyif it’s weak in doctrine it IS weak in true Christian character. Those both go hand in hand. Once you try other strong Christian curricula you can easily see the difference. It’s hard for those that have only tried TGTB to see it as they’ve only stuck with that one and don’t have anything to compare it to. If a strong Christian curricula is not your thing then by all means choose what works best for your family.
